    Correction: The dual layer boards were kickstarter bonuses with the expansion. Turmoil in retail does NOT come with these boards. They can be purchased separately. Sorry I didn't realize that when I recorded this video!

    Your plain and simple explanation gives me pleasure. Camera angles also show every detail in the narrative of the game. A lot of effort goes into every review. Congratulations

    Thank you for the great explanation for every detail on the map and cards
    Like you work with the camera and how precise you are in terms of placing each component.

    As always, the best production value for a board game video. Your explanations are on point even for such an articulate game. Very well done!

    I was intimidated to tackle Turmoil, but you explain things in a way that makes it so easy to digest. You are amazing!

    This is the first playthrough of yours I've watched, and it is excellent! Very clear, thorough, and organized. Love how you explained the rules as the situation comes up. Makes it a lot easier to follow and understand a complex game. Great job!!! Definitely subscribed and will be checking out more of your videos!

    I've been interested in this game in quite a long time and lamented how there wasn't a proper playthrough before but now you have fixed that. I'm especially glad to see you added the expansions in because I'd heard about them before but wasn't really sure how they worked. What I love about this game is how many different options players have in terms of strategy and what type of engine to build which makes each game unique. For instance, you seem to be going with a plant and infrastructure route, green revolving around oceans and cities, and blue seems to be going for a political strategy. Speaking of the political, I really like how after each generation the council and parties gets shuffled up with the dominant one losing all it's members back to storage and neutrals getting added in. It keeps the council aspect 'in play' so to speak so players will always have a reason to compete in it. Excellent video as always Jon.

    It's interesting how Corporate Era and Draft are considered Variants when most people that I know as well as tournaments use the Corporate Era + Full Draft which I agree makes the game so much better. The rulebook should have made the variants the primary way to play and say if you want a quicker/shorter game, then omit the Corporate Era and Full Draft system.
    You forgot to mention the final variant which is Solo Player which I gotta say is a lot of fun and quite challenging.

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  4 года назад +1

      I find it interesting too, though I imagine they wrote the rulebook with first time players in mind and they would likely play as is instead of do a variant from the start.

    For people who don't own turmoil or prelude expansions... and because I know Jon doesn't do reviews anymore, I'll give you two quick ones.
    Buy prelude it is fantastic. And makes the games a tiny bit shorter.
    Don't buy turmoil it just makes the game longer which goes against one of the pluses of prelude. It's not good but not bad, it's just there keeping the game going ticking time away. FYI those layered player boards are NOT included in the retail expansion.

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  4 года назад

      Good advice overall, I likely wouldn't have bought Turmoil if it hadn't come with the double layer boards through kickstarter. I put a note into the Klingon subtitles about the boards not being a part of that expansion, unfortunately I forgot that was a KS exclusive package deal.

  • @SIrbrastias
    @SIrbrastias 4 года назад +1

    Worth noting that the nice player boards are Kickstarter promos and not included in the retail version of Turmoil.
    Perhaps also worth mentioning that Corporations and Prelude cards are not just simultaneously revealed and implemented but actually played in player order.

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  4 года назад

      Oops, I forgot those were a kickstarter promo and not combined with the expansion. I'll add a note about this to the Klingon subtitles. Regarding setup order, I try to skip past those details to get to the gameplay as quickly as I can, sorry if I was misleading with how I phrased that.

    • @SIrbrastias
      @SIrbrastias 4 года назад +1

      @@JonGetsGames First of all, your videos are very, very well made. My point with the Prelude cards was just that the order they are played in can be very important if more than one player place tiles and/or trigger corporation powers. Now, since I believe this wasn't the case in your example, it's not a huge deal.

  • @stevegeorge7773
    @stevegeorge7773 4 года назад

    I think in the rules you don’t get the +1 production when using the expansion companies. The base game with the generic companies, non expansion, gets the +1 production. The unique companies and the extra cards, which are in the base game box, you start at zero. The companies then give you benefits.

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  4 года назад +1

      Yep, you are correct. I completely forgot about this since we have literally always played with asymmetric corporations even when not using the rest of the Corporate Era variant.

    • @aljoschawinckler3397
      @aljoschawinckler3397 4 года назад

      That's not true. In the base game you start with +1 production. It does not matter wether you play with a beginner or a normal corporation. If you choose to play with the corporate era cards you don't get +1 production but each player can still play with beginner or normal corporations.

    Man that turmoil expansion seems like such a pain and lots of bookkeeping. No thanks! But I do Wanna try the base game with prelude.

    • @JonGetsGames

      It wasn't too bad, but I can see it turning off many people. I am quite curious to try it with other players after this first play with it.

  • @annereynolds7930

    Jon, did the 3d player boards come with the Turmoil expansion or did you have to purchase those separately?

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  4 года назад

      I backed the Turmoil Kickstarter and they came with that. I didn't realize that was a KS exclusive thing, and because of that I incorrectly implied they were a part of Turmoil. They now have to be purchased separately.

  • @jeremymullen7097
    @jeremymullen7097 2 года назад

    Hey, I just ordered and received Turmoil, and it did not come with the dual layer boards. Did you get some collectors edition version? I'll still enjoy Turmoil for what it adds, but this omission was disappointing.

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  2 года назад +1

      I'm really sorry for the confusion. I thought the dual layer boards came with the expansion but it turns out they were an exclusive bonus for people (like me) who backed the Kickstarter campaign. I already put a note in the Klingon subtitles explaining this, but I've now added a pinned comment to that video so that this mistake is more visible.

    • @jeremymullen7097

      @@JonGetsGames Thanks...no harm done. I'm such a fan of the game that I ordered a 5 pack of the dual layered boards from BGG.

      It's so cool when people come here and claim HUGE mistakes were made but don't bother to say what the mistakes were and when they were made... it helps a lot!!
