Thank you so much for this playthrough. I played a couple of days ago for first time and made several mistakes. This video will help me correct those and play correctly. Hope to go play tonight! I appreciate your work!
@49:53 the missing MC production was because you forgot to add the extra MC production for the earth tag of the Cartel card itself because of the other MC producing card (if that makes sense 😅) Very nice playthrough Colin 👍 (even though you cheated yourself out of quite some early MC and card draws 😜)
I LOVED this play through! You were making so many MC, that's insane! I was worried about my play through because by the dummy players third turn I did not have a lot of heat or oxygen being made, but I was also running a fairly heavy MC engine. I ended up being able to buy my way through everything (with a lot of meteorite help!), but it was a nail biter! I thought I was doing the production wrong, but I got the gist of it eventually. Overall, TM: Ares Expedition is great! I'm ready for the next play through! P.S.: I ended up with 58 TR! I did play on novice, so that does help a first time player. I also had Tardigrades, which gave me an additional 6 TR at the end. Such a great game!
Great playthrough. I just picked this up and your playthrough was super helpful. I feel I can set it up and start playing as solo will be how it gets played the most. Thanks!
Yea it's Colin again! I just learned this at a local Boardgame Con. I love it. I'm a huge TM Fan n had my doubts bout it. But it really does stand on its own n rather well!
This was so much fun! I wanted to watch only a few turns to give me an idea and just had to watch the whole thing. Your enthusiasm is infectious and the game looks so awesome!
Wow, this video is so helpful to get a first impression of the game. I'm new to the TM universe and didn't really know what to expect. Thank you so much!
Great playthrough Colin, as always! I have to honestly say of all playthroughs on YT yours are the most enjoyable! Love this game and I did back the upcoming expansion(s) including the playmats which I missed the first time.;) Theres on,y one thing I don’t like in the solo mode: the Dummy player being second in choosing the phase. About 33% of the time I waste phases cause I’m so unlucky (unlike you! :)) another dummy player „chooses“ the same phase…
Well thank you very much and I totally agree! It is random too so no way for you to make a determination on what phase the dummy player will choose. It will be interesting to see what the expansions provide!
Great video, loved the playthrough. I find the solo mode really hard, even on novice difficulty. I think its crucial to have a good production of money going on to allow you to play more cards. Steel also helped you a lot, and the earth tag engine.
Nice job Colin. Out of 6 solo plays Ive only won once, and Im still not sure I played it 100% correctly. The card that lets you buy standard actions for 4 less seemed crucial to buy my way to victory. Ive also never mulliganed my opening hand I didnt realize that was an advanced variant.
I find this one is easier n more likely to get to the table then my Big (& rather heavy) Box of TM. Because it just scales less (scope n parts etc) Both are fun just depends on if u want a more involved game (w All Expansions - TM) or the more streamline version (no drafting, no generation rounds etc (Ares)
Nice one Colin. Not heard of Ares Expedition, and must have totally missed Mike's playthrough. I'm not sure if I would prefer this version to the standard Terraforming Mars. Really enjoyed watching Jakob's solo playthroughs (I forget the name of his channel with his little pal Draco, so if you or a viewer could tell me the channel name so I can re-subscribe I'd be grateful) What was the reasoning for the makeover? Ares Expedition looks like it could be more streamlined, but still has a lot of moving parts. Either way it still has that combolicious engine building, I love how the resources start off slow then ramp up as the game grows. Really cool! Any way thanks for another fun playthrough, even if there weren't many plants! lol
Boardgames with Niramas! Love Josef! Yes I find this game easier to get into over regular TM, but I know race for the galaxy so that helps. Thanks so much for watching Paul as always!!
So real quick n off subject.. did u Kickstart the recent Thunderstone Quest KS (Enemies Within)? If so were u gonna do a vid of it? Thanks. U the man Colin! 🎲
I watched this in anticipation of the new expansions, and I have to admit that I find absolutely no reason to get it as I already have the original TM and all its expansions. Thank you for helping my decision!
I’ll have a new video for the expansion. The main advantage it has over TM is solid cooperative play, but if you don’t want that then yes, TM is already excellent :) - Mike
Hi, nice video. I have a question, to win solo game do I have to close temperature, oxygen and oceans but what about WT ? Do I also have to reach max. WT to win ?
I'm not great at the game so you might want to ask on BGG. But for me I always prioritize MC generation because it can buy you anything. Also card draw for production is amazing as it allows you to add options while also producing money etc. Try not to pay for expensive cars early as it will take forever to get Mc production then. Those are my suggestions!!
@@OneStopCoopShop you did it right. I was confused. In original terraforming Mars you spend titanium and steel. But it seems in this one. It’s permanent. I missed that. Great job on the win btw!
No, he had 2 cards that each produced MC based on the number of earth tags. This is checked during production, not just when the card is played so any additional earth tags will also increase production of the card. Therefore, each card was producing 6 MC at the time. He is correct.
I like the gameplay. With that said it was too easy to figure out the strategy beating all 3 levels of solo difficulty. It become a rinse and repeat strategy. I have since sold my copy.
You’re just blending the green, blue and red cards on that player mat. Oh the humanity 😂😅
I love your solo playthroughs. My go to channel!
I recently purchased this game trying to figure it out. Never played Terraforming Mars before.
Thank you so much! This is a solid have that plays quite easily one you get the hang of it!!

Ahh yes thanks for that and thanks so much for watching!!
Excellent playthriifh! Really helped in understanding this game and making sure my gameplay was correct.
Great video. I still lost in my first go at it, but I learned so much playing as I watched this video that I’m ready to go for it again. Awesome game!
Good luck my friend!!

Thanks a lot, Colin. I just bought the game and now I don’t even have to read the manual. Well explained. Big fan! :-)
Glad to help and great game!!

Nice!!
Great playthrough! About choked when you gave up Arctric Algae with a full board of unflipped ocean tiles. That was a lot of plants to throw away :)
Mistakes were made!
Actually it was all planned!! Hahaha!! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this video. It was very helpful for solo playing!

I have played this one both cooperatively and solo and love it! Thanks for the play through, Colin. Glad you enjoy it too.
Yes!! It's just a nice change of pace from all those adventures games! Thanks for watching Stasia!
another great play through, this plays so much better solo than terraforming mars and the artwork is Gorgeous which cant be said for terraforming mars
Agreed!

This, along with Descent: Legends of the Dark are my favorite games of the year (so far.)
I'm with you!!
Great video!!! I just got this game so it was a great help to watch you play solo and with so much enjoyment as you play
So glad to help and thanks for watching! Great game!!

100% agree!

Yeah that card if super helpful! I have won without it but it's a big help when it shows up. The advanced variant is a must in solo I think!
Just got this and this video was so helpful seeing how it's played! Thanks!
Just what we were trying to do! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for de-sleeving for us!
No problem! Thank you for watching!
Why remove the sleeves? 🤔
No glare!
Fantastic walk through, much thanks.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
You play exactly like me! See a card with a lot of tiny writing in a box .... and lots of icons ... uh, yeah, discard. Next!
Hahaha!!!!! Don't tell but that's totally what I do...
thanks for the video, very good explanations.
Glad to help!!

I totally agree!
Another brilliant playthrough! Many thanks. I was wondering, have you tried filming keeping the cards sleeved? Are they too reflective?
Yeah just too reflective for me!
Nice one Colin.

Where did you get the player May that you are putting your cards on?
It came with my kickstarter! I'm not sure if they are available in retail
Great video! What sleeves are you using?
The game came with sleeves! I'm not sure if you can get them through the company website!
So real quick n off subject.. did u Kickstart the recent Thunderstone Quest KS (Enemies Within)? If so were u gonna do a vid of it?
Thanks. U the man Colin! 🎲
I did not I still have thunderstone but don't pull it out often so I did not back the latest ks

Hi, nice video. I have a question, to win solo game do I have to close temperature, oxygen and oceans but what about WT ? Do I also have to reach max. WT to win ?
Not sure what WT is? But to win you complete all the requirements, oceans temp and oxygen!
@@OneStopCoopShop sorry not WT but TR :)
Oh yeah so for coop you need 80 pts. For solo that is hope you did and you try and beat it next time!
at 26:10 Ironworks! I think that's one of the best cards in the game. Good for you!
Whoot!!
Do you have any tips to play this game solo? I am really struggling to get a good engine going. Not sure what to prioritize. Thanks! :)

Thanks!! I think you are right especially about avoiding expensive cards at the start. This game is tough!
Haven't played any of the Terraformig Mars games. Would you suggest this or the base game first? I am assuming this is stand alone.
This is standalone and yes I would recommend starting here!
I’m confused. Does the strip mine make your steel worth 4 each? And titanium 3
Do you have a time stamp? I don't remember haha!!
@@OneStopCoopShop you did it right. I was confused. In original terraforming Mars you spend titanium and steel. But it seems in this one. It’s permanent. I missed that. Great job on the win btw!
Cool thanks for confirming and watching!!
Looks good but I wish it’d be a bit tighter
Do you mean harder? I played on the easiest mode so you can certainly make it tighter!
Does this game have enough solo content without any expansion?
I think it's okay but you really will want the expansion for a lot of solo plays!
pretty sure the missing 4 is because you counted 6 earth instead of 2 for the first 1/earth so you should have 16 not 20 at 50:15
Thank you!!!
No, he had 2 cards that each produced MC based on the number of earth tags. This is checked during production, not just when the card is played so any additional earth tags will also increase production of the card. Therefore, each card was producing 6 MC at the time. He is correct.

I agree that both solo and co-op have their limits
What is that strategy?!!??
I bought Ares Expedition and thought I’d learn and play along with you, but my corporations are different … how is that? So sad.
Oh no maybe it's the kickstarter edition. My apologies!
I wondered if that might be the issue - tThanks for all your good work!
Thank you for watching and for luck!! It's a fun one!
