Sorry for the lower video quality and some focus issues, I never planned on using the X100F for video, but its nice to have a backup.
I am extremely happy with the capabilities of the Ronin S for my Sony FS5 MKII and I can’t wait to use it in upcoming projects.
If you have any questions or ideas for me to test, please leave them below!

Thanks Jim. I tested the set up tonight. Appreciate it!
Dream And Dream Marketing I’m so glad! I’m uploading a video tomorrow filmed with this set up.
Cool!✌️
Thanks for the video. I used a Moza 2 with my FS5 for a few shoots, but am thinking to pick up a 2nd hand Ronin S. I'm in Calgary too ... moved here not long ago. Maybe we can find a 2-FS5 shoot to work on together sometime!
I have the larger 90 batteries with the kit 18-105 lens. I wonder if I slide the camera forward, if they will clear the rear
motor. Great video
Thank you! From what I remember, this just made it, so it may be tough to balance with bigger batteries and lens but good luck!
Hi Jim
I just came across this video, and it was very helpful. Regarding changing your aperture, shutter and iso without the side handle, have you set an assignable button to manually change those settings whilst shooting on the gimbal? Thanks.
In Conversation I actually don’t use the side handle either way! I just use the on-body buttons to change everything. That lets me control the iris, shutter and iso no problem.
I bought my Ronin-S a few weeks ago just for my FS5II. Kit 18-105 f/4 pz w/ dji lens yolk, bpu-30 screen on top w/ smallrig rails. I mount it to my monopod so I get the 2 hand ergonomics.
Steve Whelchel that sounds awesome! Glad you can balance such a versatile lens on it
Plan is to buy the Sony 24mm 1.4 and pair that with this setup. All Sigma needs to do is just come out with a FE 16-35 f1.8 finally.
Steve Whelchel I agree 100%. I plan on getting another lens as well, I’m sure Sigma isn’t far away from something like that! I assume it’ll be very heavy, but possible!
You should get a fishermans belt ... to get the bottom of the gimble in. Just like they do with the fishingpole's. then you can carry allot of the weight in on the hips.
Maurice Timmermans what a great idea!!! Thanks!
I can't believe I have never thought of this. Especially since I spend a lot of time hand holding with the gimbal to stabilize for still shots, while still being mobile at events.
Do the balancing video
Are you able to do the 360 roll on the Sony FS5 Mark ii on the ronin s? Every time I try to set it up the back part of the viewfinder gets in the way.
No I don’t think that’d work unfortunately!
What’s your opinion of the black magic cinema camera vs the fs5 ?
QueenStixx I’ve seen some amazing things from a black magic, but I’ve never owned one myself. I’d say it’s worth renting both and seeing what direction you lean in! Check work flows, settings intuition, and just general feel and looks. You’ll know which one is right for you. Good luck!
And then there’s the discussion around focus
You meaning controlling the Sony’s focus while using it on the Ronin?
Hello Brother!! I wanted to leave a comment 🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️
What about with the stock lens?
Johnny Ray I think it will fall forward if you tried it with this battery, but I have seen slight modifications to help balance with the 18-105!
Hello my name is Anthony. I'm a videographer trying to find a great gimbal for my Sony FS5 mark ii. There are so many gimbals, I'm trying to stay on a budget. But I was curious which gimbals are compatible for my camera. I've seen options like the DJI Ronin S, DJI Ronin M, Zhiyun Crane 2, Feiyu Ak2000S 3 Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer, FeiyuTech AK4000 DSLR Camera Stabilizer gimbal. I'm not sure if any of these gimbals are compatible. Please let me know and also if there are other options for gimbals that I did not mention
So the ronin S will work like in my video, but it has its limits. The ronin M should work, but I don’t think any of the others will work for the FS5 unfortunately. I would probably suggest a free fly movi system but they are expensive. Check this article out! www.photographypls.com/best-gimbals-for-sony-fs5-cameras/
@@JimMadden Perfect. Thank you so much for your feedback! I've been trying to find the perfect gimbal. I appreciate your help
@@AnthonyRodriguezViews no problem! If you ever have the budget, movi will definitely be your best bet. Finding a used ronin for a good price is easy for the time being though! Have fun!
I bought the fieyu a2000 it sucks with my Sony fs5
Paw Print Visuals I gotchu, I can do the balancing video for sure. Still gonna work on a short video too to show its potential!
