  • Just my first impressions of the new Ronin-S after my first time out and about with it with the Sony FS5. Including sample footage from the shoot. I don't cover all of the Ronin-S features in this video as there are plenty out there covering what the Ronin does. This is a video more focussed on the Ronin in combination with the FS5 specifically.
    For the full sample video 'A Little Journey', check it out here: • A Little Journey: Roni...
    Ronin-S Mount amzn.to/2A0PcuH
    Screw set amzn.to/2C30pfT
    15mm rods amzn.to/2PphFzI
    (These first three are the pieces that I glued together to prevent movement).
    Smallrig 15mm rod to rosette adapter bit.ly/2yccVXB
    *This link now seems to be dead and I can't find the exact product I have on ebay or amazon. Sorry. It's the 90 degree 15mm rod to arri rosette adapter you need.
    This rosette insert for the FS5 and male to male lanc lead is the kit in this video: amzn.to/2NxvVo4 and amzn.to/2pI8Gyk
    But I’ve since bought this and it’s a much, much better amzn.to/2LhBE1S

    At last! A RUclips video of an fs5 on a gimbal I can believe. A setup which is practical - especially like the way viewfinder and camera grip have been done. Top marks, much appreciated.

    Thanks for Sharing Mattjeh. I have been thinking about this configuration a lot. Good to see that it works.

    Remember reading that the sidemount/structure/screws on Ronin S have a weight limit. So one hand grip, using the add-on handle might be near the capacity limit with the FS5, depending on lens.

    • @mattjeh
      @mattjeh  5 лет назад

      Yes I wouldn't recommend carrying all of the weight through the side handle, the centre of gravity wouldn't allow you to anyways. But as a little relief from your left hand, I don't see that being a problem.

      I asked a while ago on DJI forums how much weight the side mount could handle and a DJI forum mod replied saying he checked with the department and its 3kg on each side. I've put about 2 kg and worked with no worries (cheese plate, battery brick and small monitor) on the right side.

    Informative video, many thanks. Have you tried setting the roll motor to the front of the FS5? I have been told it is possible, but don't know how to to do it because I haven't bought one yet!

    • @mattjeh
      @mattjeh  5 лет назад

      I think I saw it balanced back to front in a video a while ago, but I don't recall any info on how to get it balanced. I tried it but just couldn't get it balanced due to the space limitations and I've not ever bothered trying it again. I wouldn't plan on doing that with an FS5 for sure.

    I have a good old Canon XHA1s, will it work with the DJI Ronin S?

    • @mattjeh
      @mattjeh  3 года назад

      Looking at the camera, I'd say no, it looks to be way too large for the Ronin-S.

  • @FhVW
    @FhVW 5 лет назад

    Did you use any weights at the back in the bigger lens setup?

    • @mattjeh
      @mattjeh  5 лет назад

      Not in the setup seen here. But I have created my own weights out of steel rods that screw into the ronin quick release plate and rest in the battery space (when using a BPU30). This allows the setup to use the top handle and lens hood when using the kit lens. Still not good enough to take my speedbooster and Sigma 24-105 though.

    Hi are you still enjoying the setup? Did you ever try to balance keeping the side handle and LCD attached (LCD attached to top handle)? I was also looking at Moza Air 2, as its a tad cheaper and lighter. Thanks!

    • @mattjeh
      @mattjeh  5 лет назад

      I've never attempted to balance it with the top and side handle on. Because I have the kit to mount the side handle lower it doesn't make much sense to keep it attached to the camera. I doubt it would balance anyway.

    Thanks. Great Review. How do you focus? The Samyang is manual, isn't it?

    • @mattjeh
      @mattjeh  5 лет назад +1

      The samyang has a good focus to infinity point, so as long as you're not right up in someones face then the focus is good.

    This is great. Could you please share the experience of the FS5 and it's autofocus using a gimbal in general? I am very curious about your set up.

    • @mattjeh
      @mattjeh  5 лет назад +1

      The FS5 doesn't have any autofocus so it's all down to the lens. The 12mm Samyang I used in this video is all manual focus but has a good infinity focus past its minimum focal distance. The kit lens has auto-focus but it's so-so. You can potentially use the focus wheel of the FS5 handle to pull focus if you attach it like I have in this video though.

    Thanks for the video. With regards to your later update where you have substituted amzn.to/2LhBE1S instead. Are you still using this part - cvp.com/product/smallrig_sr1743_rod_clamp (unavailable) as the intermediary section between the FS5 grip and the gimbal via the 15mm rod to the gimbal?
