    I am so glad to see others that are still rocking the FS5. I have two M2’s and just cannot get rid of them. It. Is just not worth it to upgrade to the FX6. You have quite a bit of gear! Dope!

    A true professional you are. Footage looks beautiful. Would never know it was 8bit. Surprised but also not surprised that you didn’t even try to go ProRes Raw. I love that you used those sigma lenses. I have yet to try the 50-150 but man you’re all set brother.

      Thanks for the kind words! Means a lot!
      I used to use ProRes Raw quite a bit but the file sizes were so big and I didn’t notice too much of a difference.
      The sigma lenses are so good. Pretty much the 50-100 1.8 and the 18-35 1.8 live on my cameras the majority of the time.

      If I remeber correctly the FS5 records at 10bit proress 422 via the sdi and 16 bit raw which is converted to 12bit raw inside the recorder ( cinema DNG or proress raw)

    Yes, I have the mark 1s. I had purchased them new around 6 years ago when they were relatively new. They have well over 1000+ Hrs now. I had to purchase the RAW upgrade as well which is an additional $500 bucks per camera.
    They still work great though!!! No dead pixels or anything. Never over heated once!
    You can find them so cheap now it’s crazy. Depending on the price I would say anything under 200 hrs you will definitely still get a good use out of it. I would just try before you buy. Even on Ebay make sure they have a return policy so you can inspect for issues.
    I hope you get one bro! It’s been my favorite camera. Even to this day I still find value in using them.

  • @DonovanMediaCenter

    As a university with limited resources, we don’t buy often….things have to last. I love the FS5 for event recording (power zoom vital to follow action). I also use it for corporate and doc work. Its weakness when compared to our Canon C70 is low light performance and dynamic range (not quite as good - so the C70 covers wide - and closeups on FS5). C70 not as good for following action. With stage lighting, matching them hasn’t been an issue (on docs also).

    • @JoelGabrielsen

      That's so awesome! Thanks so much! Honestly, They don't match very well. The sensor is just a little different. It would take a little work to get them to match well. I would say it could be possible to create a correction LUT in Davinci for each camera. That could be a work around for sure. Just my thoughts!

    • @JoelGabrielsen
      @JoelGabrielsen  Год назад +2

      Thanks for watching!!! I use an Atomos recorder via HDMI. You can record 4K Slog3 Prores 422. I used to record Prores RAW via the SDI but the workflow was a little too much for me.

    • @PatrickLipp
      @PatrickLipp Год назад +2

      If you’re outputting via hdmi, then it’s only 8bit 4:2:2 which isn’t at all ideal for slog3. So long as you’re not pushing heavy grades, it’s not too bad, but still not great.
      With that said, I’m just glad you didn’t tell me you were getting slog3 via sdi, because that don’t work. 😂

    • @PatrickLipp

      Should preface I’m an fs5 owner with shogun inferno, so I was genuinely curious if you knew some special magic sauce!

    • @JoelGabrielsen
      @JoelGabrielsen  Год назад

      @@PatrickLipp Yes!!! That's correct. That's definitely a downside to the FS5. The 8bit codec. I definitely try not to push the grade very much. Over exposing definitely helps to clean up the image. I've heard of people having good results shooting 1080p 10bit and upscaling to 4k. I've never tried it but thought it was interesting.

    Hello Joel G, what a great explanation, you made me trust this equipment lol... well, I just wanna know I heard you saying that you used Slog 3? on this 8 bit cam? was the coloring prosses that easy, yes it looks great. I have a A7sii, but am tempted to shift to this is of coz for the looks and few tech aspect, Do you mind breaking down for me.. Beside the camera it self what extras needed? I have a Inferno ninja 7" can it assist to record with Pro res? Please help.. I have subscribed

    • @JoelGabrielsen
      @JoelGabrielsen  Год назад +1

      Awesome!! Thanks so much for watching and subscribing! I appreciate it!
      Yes that is correct. I was filming everything 4k Slog3 Prores 8bit.
      When filming Slog 3 you have to make sure you overexpose the image 1.5 -2 stops over.
      The ninja inferno 7 is great to record 4k Slog3 Prores 8bit via HDMI.
      I would load these luts onto the monitor. www.xdcam-user.com/2018/08/new-venice-look-luts-version-3-includes-minus-green-luts-for-fs5-fs7-f55-a7s-a7r/
      I use the Alister_V-Look_-1p50.cube.
      I typically use the monitor to dial in my image. Making sure I have plenty of light.
      I would recommend this camera for sure! Really the only accessories you need are batteries and media. The sony branded batteries are pretty pricey. I would recommend these - amzn.to/3XvngH7
      They have a D-tap which you can use to power the monitor as well. You should get about 1.5-2 hrs per battery.
      Hopefully this was helpful!

    I have the fs5 w/25mm f2 but not the equipment just 2 lights w/softboxes. So my question to you is do recommend that I use hlg2 or slog2? I knw the camera isn't good in low light so I have 2 for that. Also during a low light situation even with lights. Would you recommend slog2? It's not many videos on the fs5 especially now. Anyone can chime in. New to the camera and filming. Thx ya for the video

    • @JoelGabrielsen
      @JoelGabrielsen  Год назад +2

      Thanks for watching!!! Great question. I would recommend shooting in slog2 or slog3 to really get the best out of the FS5. If you don't see the slog3 option you might need to do a firmware update. When filming any sort of S-log you really have to overexpose the image anywhere between 1-2 stops to get a clean image but without clipping the highlights. If you don't over expose you might start to notice some noise. I would recommend getting a monitor that you can load a correction LUT onto. It's an easy way to dial in a shot without getting scientific and using a light meter.
      These monitors are amazing for $145 bucks - amzn.to/40wbDCs
      Also, I can't say enough good things about the Alister Chapman Venice LUTS - www.xdcam-user.com/2018/08/new-venice-look-luts-version-3-includes-minus-green-luts-for-fs5-fs7-f55-a7s-a7r/alister-v-look-v3-s-log3/
