FS7 is still my main bread & butter camera in 2023 for corporate and run & gun. I've had many other cine cams from Canon C line to BlackMagic but this one has stuck and held through the test of time. I love how it can go from tripod to ENG style shoulder-cam. I am thinking of adding an FX3/FX30 as B-cams and would love to upgrade to an FX6 but the FS7 still provides perfectly clean IQ and with a speed booster I can get FF FoV out of it..

However, the Mkii gave me inexpensive access to a camera I could practice being a cinematographer with a "cinematic" look. It Got me in the game. Also, the lack of dynamic range FORCED me to light shots properly and my Mkii reel is better than my Run and Gun FX3 content.

With all the working Pros in Australia dumping FS5s and FS7s for the FX6, I've been able to pick up both FS5 and FS7 cameras for literally peanuts. My most recent acquisition, an FS7 came with a 'free' 18-110mm servo zoom, a lens that sells here for nearly A$6K. Price paid? just A$3K for the complete package. That's about US$2Kso a bargain in anybody's currency. I have both cameras rigged for 'on the shoulder' ENG style shooting with matched 18-110mm lenses where I capture 10bit 422 HD to integrated Samurai Blade SDI recorders. Whilst the FS7 is a proper 4K camera, the FS5 never was but with both cameras capturing fast turnaround 10bit DNxHD to low cost SSDs, I bump my final programmes to 4K using Topaz VAI, which produces a better, more time & cost effective result than capturing and editing internal 4K.
