    Agree on all the points made in the video. I’ve been working on a tv show with my fx6 in full shoulder / tripod mount mode and found that to rig back and forth onto my gimbal took more time than I had given so have opted for the 3 for this purpose but since buying it really see the potential to use it for more B cam work than just a gimbal cam.

    The FX6 would be my dream setup, unfortunately I just can't swing it right now. The FX3 is much more affordable and once I built out a rig that I'm happy with, it cost me just as much as the body alone of the FX6 would have cost me. Plus, I only make YT videos, I dont work on set or don't do anything professional so I don't think I'd be able to justify that extra cost. Internal ND sounds like a dream, but IBIS is much more important for me, and it literally means I dont need a gimbal for what I do. Now that Shutter angle is coming to the FX3, I think I'm super happy in my decision to save a buck and go for the cheaper option. I think one day I would still love to get an FX6 v2 or maybe an FX9 but definitely not right now. They're all great cameras tho!

    They are the same, the biggest decision factor is probably the IBIS in the FX3 (there is none in the FX6) versus the variable ND in the FX6 (there is none on the FX3). Above that the consideration of the weigh can be important, when using a lot of gimbal, the FX3 wins.

    FX6 Owner who upgraded from the GH5.
    I really like the FX6. I've been using it as a wedding cinema camera since it arrived. I had a massive commercial project last year, but the FX6 order was delayed. The GH5 held up.
    The only gripe I have with the FX6 is that it needs a compressed 4K 10bit option, as you mentioned.

    Ah! The perfect videographer to ask…
    I’ll be shooting some theater scenes in NYC and I’m trying to see IF I can get by with a Sony FX3 given that the lighting can be highly controlled…
    It’s not only is it about the higher rental cost of the the FX6 ecosystem… but the size of the files written out demanding (10?) more NAS storage for editing…
    The deciding factor may just be that the final product is only intended for smart phones or tablet… maybe a laptop?

      Well, I ended up going with the Alpha 1 😂
      When I read about the specs for the video chip and how it was in the ballpark of Red and Arri chips - it was kinda a well thought out “no-brainer” - since I will always be shooting under controlled lights with little - action - so shutter curtain won’t be an issue.
      Yes, it will take more GB to shoot ProRes or S-log but that is only an option… I can still shoot HD if needs be - and with a superior sensor and processor - and, to be honest, I was able to put it on my Dell Pfd account and pay over 12 months sooo… roll the dice!

      If it's not visible in the footage or prohibiting you from using the camera as a cinema camera in any other way, whatever you dont like about it does not make it less of a cinema camera. It just makes it quirky.

      I think y’all confused. Shutter angle and shutter speed are the same thing but they have different units. The shutter speed is how long the sensor is exposed. And same thing for shutter angle. These cameras don’t have a mechanical shutter like film cameras. If they did you wouldn’t be able to change it. And you would still need to change the frame rate with shutter angle

      Hi Jon,
      I don't have any issues with the rolling shutter, because I use the A7IV mainly on the Ronin-S to achieve smooth camera movements or as a b-camera with a wideangle lens mounted on a tripod without operator. For the close-ups and Action shots I take the FX6 on a tripod or handheld.
      The overheating ist the bigger issue for me for example when documenting a theatrical play. During the static wideangle shot the A7IV once had shut down after 1:15 hours in 1080p25 but with the monitor closed and a bluetooth connection to my mobile phone.

    Yoru shadow noise is excellent vs some other tests and raw footage I have seen. I'm curious if you apply any post noise reduction or run at a higher in camera noise reduction, OR if you rate the iso a little differently and over expose by 1-2 stops. My understanding is that the FX6 applies less in camera noise reduction because it dissipates heat much better than the fx3 and since the sensor gets less hot it's less noisy (but this is kinda of a guess, since Sont won't really comment on this).

    3:44 why you think the fx6 has a better image than the fx3 is definitely something that is akin to why your clients are impressed when they see the fx6 as opposed to a barebone fx3. it's called placebo

      Imo the FX3 just feels a bit more digitally sharpened. You also can't turn off noise reduction. Something about the FX6 feels slightly more organic. I can't put my finger on It.

    It only takes .50 seconds to calculate shutter speed to = 180. Take your frame rate and double it. If you are shootong at 30 frame...just double it and you get 60. (1/60) This takes me .5 seconds to figure out but even smarter guys could do that math even faster. No big deal 😂

    • @yosoyadae
      @yosoyadae Год назад +1

      Yeah it’s pretty quick and easy especially since you’re really only shooting 24 fps or 48/60 so you’re really only need to remember two adjustments.

    • @kendrickvarela_
      @kendrickvarela_ Год назад +7

      It's not really about how much time it takes, but rather how convenient it is to set it once and not really think about it again.
      It's super easy but when possible I prefer SA vs SS and I feel like Sony really should include it in the FX3(30) since it's part of the cinema line up.

    • @yosoyadae
      @yosoyadae Год назад +1

      @@kendrickvarela_ I respect that, but I feel like that’s more of a “content creator” issue. If you’re on a set with a AC or even on your own it isn’t that much of an inconvenience to make the switch from one to the other, especially if for the most part you’re sticking with one frame rate.

    • @kendrickvarela_
      @kendrickvarela_ Год назад +1

      @@yosoyadae I agree with it being a content creator problem. I was AC'ing over the weekend and we had a crispy 12 hour day running 2 Komodos going from interviews to BROLL and while we never had an issue with frame rates and shutter, it's times like that where you really do appreciate it.
      Truth be told, the only thing I want is the option to have it so I can use it moments like that.

    • @Supercon57
      @Supercon57 Год назад +5

      With shutter angle you set 180° and literally never have to touch it again
      Any time you change frame rate it's still 180°
      Also 1/50 isn't true 180° of 24fps because it's technically 1/48
      Sony had to patch the FX3 to add this
      Or you know, they could have just done shutter angle.....

    You almost got it right but not quite… The FX3 is slightly better image quality because it has less noise. Also, I would never buy the FX3 because the viewfinder on the A7S3 is the best EVF I’ve ever seen. If you ever have to manually focus… No problem with the a7S3… I defy you to do it on the FX3 unless you’re 20 years old with perfect vision. Built out the a7S3 With a cage or a gimbal and I’ll take that over the FX6 any day .
