Hey Jon, I just found your channel via the documentary Vlogs you are doing. Excellent work. Happy to be a subscriber. So, prior to covid layoffs in the live events space, I came from the field of event technology. Basically, I was the manager of the AV technicians who facilitated the lighting, audio, any video needs, confetti cannons, whatever... :) for wedding receptions, as well as corporate live events here in my area. I have since pivoted careers but am looking to get back into shooting, editing, producing content on my own, but more with a narrative or documentary focus. All of this to say, I was actually thinking about doing some freelance shooting for weddings to get my feet wet again with camera/lighting skills, etc. However, the part of this video from about 5:27 - 11:15.... Ahhh, I pretty much had a panic attack remembering those days. :D Thank you for resetting my focus. I will keep practicing on projects on nights and weekends until (hopefully) I can use 'getting paid with my camera' as a full-time thing. Cheers man! Love your channel. Take care!

Nah I believe you man, photography... takes around 15-20 shots to finally get moving. After than second set I'm like "Alright lets roll some more here we go!" and boom they start hittin. lol. Same for video, takes me about 5-6 maybe 10 good "warm up" pans to get flowing then around 3-4 takes production before I take the final 2 of the start as finals... after that... we rollin smoothly LOL

What is the two panel reflector called (panel to the side and overhead)? I need to get one!

Having an IFB is pro move for "verite" shooting. Put a walkie in one ear and get the reverse ear for an audio hop to follow the story.

Yes, you should get the insta 360 camera, mount it on top of your camera and you just make sure its charge and recording and you have all the angles you’ll need for bits of what you shooting and yourself, everything around you.

Straight out of the camera with white balance identical do you find the FX3 has more yellow cast in it as compared to the FX6 which is cooler?

I shoot my bts stuff with the Osmo Pocket 3. I like it because it’s inconspicuous 🥷 Got a magnetic enclosure for it which comes handy when I need to film myself. Great stuff man! I like how you incorporate a lot of photos into your vlogs

Does the EZ rig help you keep it up or is it just as hard without it?

A good side comment is a client isn't going to know the difference between either if you fully kit it out. Industry pros, sure, but don't let that be a decision. Kitted out is kitted out.

Lots to take in here which I enjoyed: Like the vlogs because it reminds me of the same shhhhhhtuff that I gotta do solo, you're making bangers. My only negative of the ez rig is how much vertical space it takes up - have been contemplating Tilta's handheld Float for some reason, probably just GAS. Dude I love my little monitor reminders too! "Slow down & emotion > everything" is often what I've got going on as a reminder. Also, sunset shots look banginnnn

I have both the fx6 and fx3 HOWEVER i use Final Cut Pro to edit all my videos and don’t plan on switching softwares. The fx6 footage in Final Cut Pro gets compressed so bad that I haven’t even had the chance to fully see the potential the fx6 is capable of. for that reason the fx3 has been my go to camera while the fx6 sadly collects dust 💔

I use the 80mm Pancolar on Praktica MTL/PLC /VLC cameras and on Contax RTS for around 30 years. And this gem really is a no-brainer, a hammer. I will use it for blackandwhite films in the next months. The Pancolar 80 is definitely a portrait specialist, but with an extension ring it's a macro specialist too, and a macro lens with f1.8 !

The only downfall of the A7riii is the damn back screen. It only tilts 😢

This is the video I was looking for!! I need a good shotgun mic for my FX30- i have the Sony ECM-B10 which is good and compact but only usable if I DON'T USE the XLR handle. so for conferences I usually run a lav or hand held mic connect to channel 1 and I need a XLR shotgun to connect it to channel 2...some times just for background and sometimes for back up..in this video you talk a bit about the Sony ECM-VG1 which you say is a good one. I have seen videos for the RodeNTG5 and Deity S-Mic 2S but those cost a lot more money. I have seen the Sony ECM-XM1 shotgun mic on Amazon. How does it compare to your VG1? I need a simple solution without needing mic spacers for the handle...one that works well enough. Thanks

I hear that all the time that Sony cameras get dust on their sensors. Don't know about the newer cameras. But its weird because Sony makes almost all the sensors for all the other brans also. I never get dust on my Olympus or Panasonic or my Fuji camera. I only once got dust on my Panasonic Lumix GH4 and used a blower to get some dust out. Maybe there is dust on my sensors but I would have to take photos at f22 to even see it.

There is a downside of this camera and all Sony sensors. There is a striping problem. If you Google Sony A7iii striping issue or problem you will see some info. DPreview on the forums the title says Sony A7ii but the writer meant A7iii. The stripping issue is also with the Sony A7Riii. Some people may never see the striping issue but the stripping issue was also found on the newest Sony A7RV. Only cameras that I know off that don't have this issue are contrast detect auto focus cameras and Canon cameras. Canon uses dual auto focus. I think its phase detection on a split pixel that avoids the problem Sony has. There are some work arounds for photo for the striping issue but I don't believe there is for video.
