NOTE - I didn't realize this when I recorded, but our own Jason Perez helped DESIGN the Taino faction in Horizons. Super cool!

I played my first game of this as Japan vs the Taino bot so it’s cool to watch this and see both from the other side! The bots really do a great job of capturing the flavor of the different nations. Great play through!

Finally! I was waiting for another game on this channel to remind me of the rules before tackling horizons
Horizons has apparently got an improved rulebook (though I had zero problems with the previous one), so a playthrough should be less "necessary" than before!
My issues with the game are remembering all the terms, and all the steps associated with them (though they are easy to understand), and the length of time needed to play, referring to the rulebook so much (I really should get a player aid). Both would be helped enormously by playing more frequently, but again, game length pretty much prevents that for me, at least so far.

Agree with all @tmcd5049 said. You can see in this play video that I kept on forgetting small things!
I love love love this game system. (Bought it after seeing one of your previous videos) I particularly enjoy how some of the civs turn the game completely on their heads (e.g. Martians) and then seeing them go up against some other civ that functions completely differently is just catnip for me. I think its also one of my best games for varied replayability and thus value for money.
Agree, the varied civilizations are super fun to explore!

No, sorry I mean Classic/Legends. But it flew under the radar until I watched one of your top lists (maybe of the year, maybe deckbuilders?). We tend to have similar tastes and I found a gem. So thanks a ton!

Btw Mike. I don't use the number tokens for the bot. Just deal out a hand of 5 facedown cards and keep the die nearby. Saves space and just helps keep things organised in the bots area.

Thanks Mike. I'd like to get this one, but haven't played Legends yet, so no rush. Shame this 'expansion' doesn't speed the game up, but the varied civs does justify the price of admission for me.
They've added a quick play mode in the new rulebook. It only cuts a few rounds, from what I've found, so it's never going to make this a "fast" game, but it helps a little :)

@@OneStopCoopShop There is also the 'Practice mode': solo 12 rounds without any bot. Really great for testing out a civilization in a short time. For solo, I might even prefer it (only problem is, it's just a BYOS)
The biggest "mistake" when playing solo is putting too many VP and ressources on cards in the market that YOU want to have.....just to see the bot taking them. ;-)
I try to put one marker on cards I don't want to be exiled (which is mostly only relevant to spots #1+2).
Else I try to make cards I do NOT want be worth slightly MORE so that the bot will take them...leaving me the cards I want.
Good call. It's a nice interplay and risk/reward mechanic

Yup, I mentioned that to another comment. Personally it didn't speed things up enough for my tastes, but I'm still glad they included it!
Does that AI rules card for the Japanese come with the new expansion?
Correct. Horizons comes with AI cards for ALL of the civs (including classic and legend)
