Just few weeks ago I finally found Bullet (both Heart & Star) available in EU after trying to find them at a reasonable price for couple of years. Bullet is one of those games that people keep praising but usually (=always) lighter 10-30 minute games fail to entertain me past couple of plays, especially when played solo. Bullet has completely surpassed my expectations and has quickly moved into a permanent slot in my collection. #3 is a very high ranking for a (relatively) simple game like Bullet but I now understand why people love this game.
Summoner Wars 2nd is SO good. Not my favorite skirmish, but I can see it. WotR though...wow. That game lived up to the hype. Such an amazing system and dripping in theme.
Just curious, have you tried Puzzle Strike II? It gives me Bullet vibes but at a turn-based pace. (Also, if you've tried Age of Galaxy.) If one were to start with Exceed, any suggestions for purchase order? I love the Nature Incarnate expansion for Spirit Island, but it's definitely not a necessity. The truly essential expansion (Jagged Earth) has started release on the app in stages.
Yeah, I stopped with jagged earth. It was enough :) I used to love the original puzzle strike, but haven’t played it much in a while. I tried a demo of puzzle strike 2… wasn’t digging it. Didn’t feel quite balanced yet. But that’s par for the course for sirlin games. He usually needs 2-3 revisions of a design to get it right 😅 For exceed, it’s partially based on IP preference. My kids like shovel knight and street fighter, so those are frequently played for us. But mechanically I think the last two seasons, under night and blazblue, are the best and most interesting they’ve done.
I love the party games, Mike! Thanks for having us on this list again at number 3 AND 1! "Get to the table and play in 15 minutes" is truly the Exceed experience! Besides, it gives you more time to play MORE games of it! :) I need to start working on Bullet Smorgasbord.
Let's go!! Your taste align with mine so much it's crazy. Exceed is also my #1 board game and SW is in my top 10. Variable player powers and tactical gameplay are mechanics I love the most in board games
Great list Mike! I’m on the fence getting War of the ring because I can only play it exclusively solo, but this video might just push me to pull the trigger!
@yxygogo the lord of the ring LCG, the Reiner Knizia lord of the rings, journeys in middle earth, and the adventure book game are all decent to great, but none of them quite feel like lord of the rings to me 😅
@@OneStopCoopShop true, I think War of the ring really shows how grand the world of middle earth is with how all the factions interacting differently on a huge map.
I LOVE what I’ve seen of guilty gear so far. It emphasizes playing boosts (cards that give you bonuses for the next attack) more, which I enjoy. For favorite, season 2 was the craziest (kind of too crazy, but cool), while I think season 5 or 6 (blazblue and under night) are their best designs so far

Great list, Mike! You’ve inspired me to get Bullet to the table this month. For Sentinels, I’m pretty sure I have the older edition. Will the new edition rules work with my older game?
It’s not the rules that have changed, really. Unfortunately it’s the cards/characters themselves. Everything is HUGELY rebalanced and changed and redesigned. But there’s nothing wrong with your old version. It’s still good!
I value your opinion, Mike, so I added a few games to my wishlist/check-out-list now. And some that were already on there got moved up ... Thanks for doing this!

I hear such good things about Arkham Horror, but I don't know that I want to put $1k into a single game. The thing that turns me off of CCG like Pokemon and Magic is that you need to really stay on top of the Meta almost constantly to be competitive at all. The nice thing about Arkham (and the other cooperative fantasy flight LCGs, Lord of the Rings and Marvel Champions) is that since they are cooperative there is no "keeping up" or "meta" you have to stay on top of.
