Really nice video and a good list! One constructive criticism is i would say more poctures of the games you talk about to help the viewers who havnt heard of the game see what you are talking about :)
Thanks for the compliments and constructive criticism! Will definitely keep that in mind for future lists :)
Yes I 100% agree! Playing games solo is a special experience. Playing solo is playing a game for the actual game. I love it!!
It’s such a different experience, and while I always love playing games with my friends, it’s nice to sit and just be by yourself sometimes too!!
@@Tablenauts yeah I mostly found solo games because I want to play games every single day and I don’t have a group that can do that. Lol but then I realized that I connect with games and appreciate their design way more solo too. I love gaming with my people too, but the experience leans more social for sure.
Really liked your video and recommends. Thanks!
Love what you did with the chapter titles 😂
Making those is almost as fun as making the videos! Haha
As someone who’s played a ridiculous amount of solo board games I can confidently say that Spirit Island is the single greatest brain burn one can experience at a table solo, I almost always prefer it solo than coop.
Either true solo or dual wielding spirits both work great.
There are tons of different ways to scale the difficulty, and it has infinite replayability.
There is a massive community of players out there talking strats that are always willing to lend advice.
I would recommend not playing with the event deck, just to keep from dying out of the blue at higher difficulties from an unlucky event.
Best opening skit E.V.E.R.!
Aww thanks! 🧡
Awesome list! Has me even more hyped for my TG to hit my doorstep :)
Thank you so much! :) Whenever it does, I hope you enjoy!!
Great list, Doolin!
Great video. Thank you so much 😊
Ok I’m still watching the video but had to commend you on the opening before I forgot to. I’d love to see the others’ impersonations of their fellow Tablenauts.
Resist! Try one of the games in David Thompson’s Valiant Defense series.
I will for sure look up that Valiant Defense series! And as for the impersonations, that’s the first thing we all talked about is what they’d do for me 🤣
Great video, hilarious skit, mostly thinking about the rest of the Tablenauts watching it and how they would react haha
Of the games I have played Final Girl and Set a Watch, with only Final Girl played solo. My wife and I love Set a Watch and I might have to go try it solo this week, you got me excited for it!
Definitely the game I play most solo is Spirit Island, though most of the time I play on steam so I can save my games and come back later, it is just such an interesting fun puzzle.
The other would be Turing Machine, which I love to do the daily puzzles on BGA, less of really a game, especially playing by yourself, but a nice brain workout that always feels satisfying!
I completely agree about Turing Machine!! It almost made my list. It would be maybe… 5 spots down. Great extra picks though and thank you for sharing!!
Nice list! Some of my favorite solo games are Anachrony, Age of Innovation, Paperback adventures, Marvel champions, Dune Imperium, Shadowrun crossfire, Caverna and Hallertau Tonight Im looking forward to trying Stonevall uprising solo!
Nice list. I want to try Anachrony sometime. Until then my list has similarities with your list: Marvel CH, Dune: Imperium, and Shadowrun Crossfire are in my all time favorite list as well.
Not Doolin, but the only one I’ve played solo is D:I! Not my favorite but it works quite well using the app! Thanks for sharing your list :) - Max
I love the Set a Watch games. The second one is super solid, I really enjoy the added treasures from the market. It adds enough without making things too complex. Also waiting on the KS for the third one plus the campaign for all three. I love seeing someone cover it, because it does not get enough love. Champion away!
Eyyyy glad to see good 'ol Set A Watch made the list! 🙆🏻♀🎉
One day it might get the love it deserves, but we’ll see 😂. Thanks again for being a huge help in teaching me how to play with your gameplay! 🧡
Surprised no spirit island, mage knight, or too many bones or cloudspire :) great video
Although Spirit Island is in my top games, I’ve actually never played it solo crazily enough!! I need to also try Mage Knight, since it’s a top for many people.
@@jd14soccerfanspirit island is fantastic solo
I would love to see more pictures of these games
Resist blew my socks off, in it's simplicity and variety. The art sealed the deal.
YES! It’s fantastic. I want to play more by that designer.
I like Resist! but it is so punishing and pretty lucky at times. I wanted to love it but after 3-4 plays I am seriously considering moving on from it. Somehow it just doesn’t seem fun or puzzley to me.
Excited to make the list!
Deservedly so! I’ll be working on getting that solo achievement card done for a long time! Haha
Great List! I can confirm that Dorfromantik is a great and addictive solo experience. Some other great solo games for me are Paperback Adventures, Rollplayer Adventures (though its even better with company), Witchcraft!, Skulls of Sedlec, Heat, Friday and Too Many Bones.
I actually have Paperback Adventures on the way!! This gets me excited to try it soon.
Your enthusiasm for Set A Watch tipped me into backing the last Kickstarter. Final Girl and Resist! are also two of my favorites. Ive been looking for The Ratcatcher but it's been OOP for a year or two now. 🚫🐀
Quick shout for For Northwood!, which is a fun solo trick-taking game - pocket-sized, almost zero setup, and perfect for when you only have 20 minutes to play.
Hopefully ratcatcher will come back around eventually! Definitely one worth trying :)
I’ll have to check out For Northwood!
Great list, thank you. I’m about to start Tainted Grail solo, how many characters would you recommend that I control to have the most fun?
I think I’d recommend just one! It’s already a lot to deal with, so that makes it faster!
Wondering if anyone else tried to guess the real name of the games via the spoiler LOL. I was able to get Gladiator & Chips, Mouth of the Jaguar, Ultimate Lady, Spoiled Cup. Also i really need to jump onto the Final Girl Train and, how have I not heard of Set a Watch?! It sounds awesome, and I love D&D
Thank you!! 😂 I love making those. Here lately I haven’t been because we got some complaints that people couldn’t find the games they wanted to hear about, but maybe I’ll sneak them in every once and a while again 😂
Delightful skit. Payback for all the jabs you take when you’re not on the podcast haha
Brad gets it 😂
My favorite is CHAINSAW WARRIOR. If you know movies like "The Raid" or "Dredd" you got the feeling. You are a warrior, who fights his way through a building full of monsters and traps. And that against the clock.
I revised the rules from 1987 and made a coop modus. Be warned ! This game is brutal, merciless and nearly unwinable....but fun, fun fun..........
Have you ever played Witches (the V2.0 of Resist!), or Hostage Negotiator (the V1.0 of Final Girl)?
NO but I badly want to try the Witches Coven game. Hostage Negotiator I have heard is just Final Girl but not so fine tuned and without the cool theme, so I am unsure about it. Would you say its worth the pickup?
@@TablenautsI like HN a lot. The theme was intriguing, and the system was uniquely great. I haven't tried FG though, so I can't compare. (I was hoping you could!)
Dude, this was so good and I respect the choices you have made. I’m super excited because I own some and haven’t played them a ton.
You also just made me feel SO much better about backing Tainted Grail, and have me so excited to get it. I thought about playing with my wife, since she really enjoys Gloomhaven JotL, but you have me thinking I’ll keep it to myself 😅
Thanks Doolin!
This comment was so encouraging!! Thank you so much. Whenever you do get the new tainted grail, if you remember, tell me what you think!!
Can I ask how many characters you played Tainted Grail with? Did you use two? (As I am about to start it). Although I have ISS Vangaurd coming, have you tried that?
I used just one character, and I actually recommend doing that if you are playing on your own! There’s enough to manage as is.
As for ISS, I have tried it and I did like it, but not nearly as much as Tainted Grail! It was a really cool system, but I found it a bit too tedious, and set up and tear down actually discouraged me from taking it back out after a good 15 hours into the campaign.
You mean you have strange friends too? He He
I’m on Sleeping Gods and Unsettled now, solo only player here. On holidays vacations, I play a lot of Maquis, Warp’s Edge and Valeria. Hoplo Victorum is so sick, I give up on Set a Watch cause the famous purple dice with black dots, no kidding, I can’t. I have to give a try to Tainted Grail and Final Girl. Thanks for sharing. 👌
I’m very jealous of Unsettled! I want to get that but can’t find it anywhere really. Thanks for watching :)
I have a weird relationship With solo. I prefer games at 2 with my wife so the games I tend to solo are the games that I freaking love but she will only play if I beg like too many bones. Or I solo to learn a game to play with her but that can backfire because then it can end up being lopsided because I’ve got a play under my belt. Great video. Makes me want to get more games played solo
Totally agree!
I also really enjoy Final Girl and Set a Watch! I skipped Resist because I don't like playing war games based on real events, it makes me feel very uncomfortable. I did back Witchcraft by then which, is in the same system so I'm looking forward to that eventually delivering. I really enjoy Legacy of Yu, Oak, and Rococo Deluxe solo. I've been putting off playing some of my big campaign narrative games so I can share them with someone, but it is impossible right now to meet up with people due to scheduling conflicts, so I may break down and just play one. 🤔😅
I also waited FOREVER to finally get those campaigns worked on haha. I think I’ll do a video soon on how I made this solo board that I can leave a game out on and put away if I need to, because I’ve had a lot of questions about it!
Where did Shut Up and Sit Down review Ratcatcher? I can't find it anywhere.
You know what’s baffling? I can’t find it now either 😂. I know I got the reco from them though. Maybe it was on a pod? But I swear it was a video.
@@TablenautsIf you ever figure it out, post it here! I'd love to hear what they said, especially after seeing so many other negative reviews of the game.
Yes, tainted grail is also top for me. And that’s how I get in to Awaken Realms🙈🤪
It’s just so incredible. Always great to know others agree! Haha
Resist is soooo good!
Give The Isofarian Guard a try. 11/10 solo experience.
Added to my wishlist!
After this video, all I realized is that you and I are the same person!
HIGH FIVE! Haha
Okay, Doolin, I know this is creepy... but I'm literally playing Dorfromantik rn and when you said that, I almost flipped my laptop. XD
Hahahaha I saw you through the computer! 👀👀👀
*blows a kiss*@@Tablenauts
4 guys playing games is perfect. By yourself- No thanks!
Try mr president
2:12 😆
In JotL how many characters have you been using solo, and also which ones? 👀👀👀
I forget their names all the time, but one is the Voidwalker support character, and the other is the punchy tiny dude! 😂
All time? No mage knight? Death Angel? Warp's Edge? Falling Skies? Marvel Champions? Elder sign? Dungeons & Dragons system? Friday? Orinim (sp)? Rove? I'll have to look up your list.
Unfortunately still not touched Mage Knight but I have it on my radar to seek out!! It’s on so many top solo games lists.
