@@Mysmi it kinda is yeah. But in a very good way. And do note, that while I do love the game, it was its design, and the math that went into it all, that I was praising - not the gameplay itself
final girl is getting a lot of deserved love here but for me, nemesis takes my #1. it never fails to give me a tense cinematic feeling every time it hits my table
Final girl is just so special. I have not played a solo game like it. It’s a unique experience every time, the unlimited mix and matching. It’s just so much fun!
I agree that Final Girl is an uber awesome game (can’t wait for Season Three to ship). I also love The Bloody Inn! Jamie, your Solo Mode inspires me to play more solo games. Thank you for sharing your gaming skills with us!
My favorite solo game, hands down, is Final Girl. You have so many great games on this list...many of them are on mine as well. Great video as always, Jamie!
My favorite solo game is Spirit Island. However, I also absolutely love Turing Machine for its innovate design, and I am really looking forward to Ada's Dream.
My favorite solo games change weekly, but this week I’ve been enjoying the Bloody Inn and Deckula. My favorite ButtonShy games this week are the Last Lighthouse and Antinomy. Thanks for the Giveaway opportunity!❤
Right now my favorite solo game is Aeon's End, after playing dominion and then getting to play Aeon's End is basically like a Co-op/solo dominion boss battler and it just clicked, very fun! Also have very much loved Set a Watch solo, very fun puzzle! And on the topic of "top ten lists" I have really enjoyed people recently doing like Top Ten games I played in the last month or just recently. I like that because then it is you are not trying to compare all of the games you have ever played at once and have more recent experience to go off of and talk about. I know you guys have done it for a few conventions and things like that and I always love to see them!
Favorite solo game is Final Girl! I took a chance when I found it on Kickstarter years ago because I had never played solo games before and now it’s my favorite way to play.
I love Castles of Burgandy special edition solo chautoma for my long solo favorite game and Joan of Arc: Orleans Draw and Write for my short solo favorite game. Thanks for having the giveaway. Ada's Dream looks fabulous!
My favourite solo board game at the moment is Draft & Write Records. I am OBSESSED with it right now. Another one could be Honey Buzz, there's just something about it that makes me so relaxed!
My favorite game to play solo lately is Spirit Island! I play as either one or 2 spirits at a time, and either way is fun. 2 spirits is a little more brain burney, but the synergies you can create can be so exciting to explore! I played with Bringer of Dreams and Nightmares and the Oceans spirit, and that game was so fun because you use Bringer to scare the invaders towards the Ocean, and then have Ocean gobble them all up and get tons of energy, while moving through the Fear deck at lightning speed! Highly recommend haha
I love Set a Watch so much. Just got Doomed Run and the new standalone. Made it through the first run and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very nice little puzzle.
I love Final girl, Witchcraft is also one of my favorites... Though I must say Cyberion would be my number one because it gets to the table a lot more. It's such a fun puzzle.
Grand Austria Hotel w/ Let’s Waltz expansion (plus hotels mod. Included) is soooo good. Idk what it is but I absolutely love it solo. I instantly played it a second time and many since
I haven't played a lot of Solo board games, but my favorite out of the few I have played is Terraforming Mars. I like that it becomes a race to fully terraform Mars within a set number of turns instead of just outscoring your opponents to win.
Great list of solo games. Have either Jeff or you played Spirit Island? If not, give it a try when time allows. I suggest it because it’s a great cooperative game in addition to an even better solo game. It has a really engaging theme, a lot of variability in the base box, a small footprint, easy to set up and put away and tons of content with all of the expansions. Are you playing TMB solo or with one or multiple Gearlocs? If with only one try two Gearlocs when you feel up to it. It opened the board up to more strategic movement as opposed to just standing in one position the majority of time and trading fisticuffs. In addition, try Horrified two handed also so not to limit the characters you can play. That’s super fun too. The above are all just suggestions from someone who also enjoys board games. In the end there’s no right or wrong way to play just as long as you’re having fun.
Thank you for the giveaway chance! This is a great list. So many of my favorites are on your list. right now, my top solo game surprised me… Stardew Valley using Maggie’s campaign mode with the game’s sound track in the background. Haha
Great video Jamie! Many I haven't played, including Final Girl, but I have backed the second and third series and received Krampus. Hope to get that to the table soon. I also love Marvel Champions and it is at the top of my list as well. I went down the rabbit hole on buying content! I do have some crazy tastes in solo games and it usually depends on my mood but here are some of my favorites that I don't see mentioned much...The Bloody Inn (so creepy but so good...another game where you use your cards in your hand to pay for actions) I think its a must try for solo gamers. Another game is The Lost Expedition...lots of tough decisions and fun trip through the jungle. And then there is Maquis...a solo only worker placement game about resisting the Natzi occupation of France during World War II. Given your recent enjoyment of war games, you may enjoy this though it is not a war game. It has some really good decision space with tension, yet fun. And then Baseball Highlights 2045! Give it a try solo! I also recently played a couple Game Crafter games that I have been really enjoying! Dustrunner and Tin Realm. They are solo only games and are very good for games packed into a tin. I found myself playing both of them back to back to back :) and then just ordered two more, Tin Helm and Doom Machine! HAHA.... Of course I love playing the bigger games solo as well like The Lost Ruins of Arnak, Ark Nova, Underwater Cities, La Granja. and GWT. My favorite deckbuilding solo games are Apex Theropod Deck Building Game, Legendary Encounters: Alien, and Legendary: Marvel. Sorry for the ramble but hopefully you find one or two you haven't played solo yet :). Oh, and loving me some Gentle Rain with my morning coffee!
First time to comment on your videos, I really love your channel!! ❤ I’m usually not a solo player, but my favorite solo experience was playing Robinson Crusoe solo when I tried to learn it. Failed miserably, of course, but was captivated by the experience and the theme.
We are traveling on a plane tomorrow and I find solo games best when traveling so I love button shys solo series quite a bit as my favorite for a plane but right now my favorite bigger solo game is Libertalia. I appreciate the giveaway and thanks to Alley Cat. They make very good games. I enjoy the channel! The tour of the studio was especially fun.
I am just starting with solo using games I already own, and my favorites so far are Sagrada and a Patchwork variant I found online. Love Cascadia, too. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
My all time favorite solo game is changing every so often. This war of mine is always great solo. Buttonshy favorite is ugly gryphon inn. Resist! Is so good too.
Thanks for the giveaway! My favorite solo game these days is Navajo Wars. I haven’t come close to a victorious session yet, but I really love how the instruction display works as the engine for the enemies.
calico is definitely my favorite solo game! i love how puzzle it feels, and i hardly ever pay attention to other player boards if im not playing solo, because the joy in the game (for me) is the “thinky-ness” that really scratches an itch in my brain. the challenges definitely make it better than the base game! also i have always really wanted to play final girl, so i’ll have to buy one of the scenarios!
My favorite solo game is probably Dungeons, Dice, and Danger. Followed by Troyes Dice and Under Falling Skies. I've just started playing La Granja solo on BGA and I'm enjoying it a ton. Ack, I love them all! All the games!!! Thank you for hosting the giveaway. I love the theme of the Ada Lovelace game. Also very excited about Luthier, although I'm afraid it might be too heavy for me. Is Luthier on your radar at all? Would love to hear FTM's thoughts on it!
My favourite solo is likely cartographers, is my highest rated game and it’s just always a good one to play, but things are changing all the time and there’s so many good ones. One of the main suggestions I would give is the Oniverse series I haven’t seen your cover any before and all them are really great. Little twist on different mechanisms. Personally, I think my favourite might be Aerion right now which is dice manipulation but honestly super enjoy every single one of them and I think ,even more than Friday, those are the small box games that all solo gamers should try.
I like worker placement. So my favorite solo game right now is Raiders of the North Sea. The duel action is unique, and the randomness of what spaces get blocked makes you really strategize your turn.
You listed a bunch of games I've never heard about and now need to check out! (Just when I thought I was done shopping for a while!) I don't play enough games solo, but my favorite experience has to be Viticulture. The Automa is easy to manage and it provides a good challenge.
My favourite solo game is the one that got me into gaming as a co-op and that's the order of vampire hunters. It is a bit along the theme of zombicide but with a twist. Not many people have heard of it but is sentimental as my starting "big" game so will always be in my top ten I think
@jorisschelfhout2348 not sure, can't really afford it at present, I did look at it previously but decided against it, keep going back to it but never seems to be the right time, have to prioritise where my money goes at the moment, which is a shame as would save a lot of money if I backed it compared to buying retail
I have not played any of my games solo yet. My husband and I love playing together, but I really want to start. I know that Wingspan and Everdell have solo instructions so I will probably start with those.
Love your channel and love this list, thanks for all the work you put into these! I’ve been getting way into solo gaming this past year - my fave battle type solo game is Marvel Champions and fave chill solo game is probably Lost Ruins of Arnak, though it’s really hard to pick
My current favorite solo game has to be Kinfire Delve . I'd LOVE for you to do a solo how to video for Marvel Champions! I have the game but have been struggling to learn. Love the content, thanks for the chance to win a giveaway too!
Still need to get my hands on final girl, I enjoy Hostage Negotiator which has similar mechanics so I know I would love final girl. Favourite solo right now is Friday , old one but always good.
Great video, Jamie. I currently have struggle tabling games at all. But the most recent surprise for Solo was Black Sonata. Set a Watch, we really enjoy at 2 players, to make some of the decisions together. We player through the new scenario-based campaign. Great fun, can totally recommend.
My favourite solo is Final Girl. It is just my top tier solo game experience. I think a close second for me would have to be Cartographers though when I just need something very chill to unwind with.
My favorite solo right now (could be different every moment; hard to pick 1 fave) - probably: Five Tribes (for games that aren't always solo), as I love abstracts, & the mancala-like aspect of this game makes me feel like I have more opportunity for strategy. I can't help but give others: Castle Panic; Siege Storm, Siege Mode (solo); Seikatsu; Temple Island Chess; For Northwood & Eck; Onirim; & Banned Books, Circle the Wagons (Lone Cowboy), Skulls of Sedlec, & Food Chain Island, also - from Button Shy; One Deck Dungeon; Tempus Imperium, & Cartographers; Deadball; Lantern (roll & write, pnp); Gate (by Jason Glover); Dice Stars; Catan, the Dice Game; Solo RPGS; S.T.A.K.E. (game books); I haven't played Final Girl yet; I'll have to check it out (as well as Life of Amazonia, & Black Sonata), as you're the second I've seen to rank it #1.
Loved your list-your enthusiasm is so, so sincere and infectious. I remember Hostage Negotiator and love the Final Girl theme so much. Where should I start with Final Girl? You turned me on to NUMBSTERS and Vainglory's Grotto too, thank you! The game that turned me on to solo play was Agricola and my favorite solo play is King's Forge. #AdaEntry!
My favorite solo game is: Frosthaven (2-handed). I've been looking for a solo game to replace it bc table space / setup / tear down is rough! Thanks for the list!
Sentinels of the Multiverse for me; it’s the ultimate modular game- there are so many combinations of teams, villains and environments. Crazy quick to setup and pack away. I use a fanmade campaign system to link games which creates stories like nothing else. I’ve thought about Final Girl a few times but SotM has everything I want in a modular game already and has a theme I prefer
Thanks for the list - a few ones I should check out in there. All time solo game…that’s a tough one! I’d say Dwellings of Everdale right up there. The mechanic of being able to see the options that the AI might do creates a game of not only maximizing your engine, but also of blocking them. So, really gets the feeling of playing against a real player. Honorable mentions are Final Girl (for the fun stories that develop and the joy when you succeed), and Dune Imperium (great solo mode with the app makes it super fast on admin, and every time is it’s own little puzzle of the options you have before you).
I have recently just gotten into playing solo games. Nice way to relax after a long day! My current favorites are Calico, Cartographers, and the Isle of Cats Explore and Draw.
So many good games mentioned in the video and the comments. Hard to choose one, but I think I'll go with Mini Rogue. I just love it for its simplicity and quickness. Whenever I have more time and brain power, Imperium classics or Spirit Island are probably my favourites right now. Appreciate the giveaway!
Favorite solo game is The Isofarian Guard. It is a massive campaign game, but with a wonderfully easy save system. 300 hours of the most immersive board game experience I have had, with wonderful writing, art, and even music. Technically it is for 1-2 players, but definitely best at 1 player.
My favorite solo game is For Northwood!, a solo trick taking game. Trick-taking is not a mechanic you would think could play well solo, but For Northwood! does it extremely well. (Plus the artwork is cute and the cards are super high quality.) Thanks for the giveaway chance. Ada’s Dream looks really good too!
Oh! I didn’t know that Life of the Amazonia had a solo mode. I need to check that out! I recently ran through Eila and Something Shiny three times in two weeks. I’m about to start Spire’s End.
Great list! I appreciate that you occasionally update it to keep up with what you've played recently and how your tastes change. Would you say you tend towards simpler, cozier games for solo plays? And do you have a preference between AI opponent (Garphill Games), BYOS (most solo x and writes), or win/loss condition (Ark Nova, Planet Unknown)? I am primarily a solo gamer and here's my top 10 right now: Honourable Mention: Zhanguo: The First Empire 10. Ezra and Nehemiah 9. Expeditions 8. Scholars of the South Tigris 7. Marvel Champions 6. Nucleum 5. Weather Machine 4. Sabika 3. Wayfarers of the South Tigris 2. Voidfall 1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Change is Constant Giveaway Entry! (I gave my favourite solo and and then some!)
My favorite solo game is also my favorite overall game - Arkham Horror LCG! Been working my way through all the repackaged content over the past 2.5 years and absolutely loving it. Played each of those campaigns 3+ times and 80ish% of all the different investigators. It’s the only game I’ve deluxified and bought accessories for. JUST. SO. GOOD.
We here at Victory Roll love a good racing game. The solo version of Heat is really meeting the fancy of Alex right now. Love y’all’s work thanks for the videos!
Thanks for the video! A lot of x-and-write games would make my top solo games; including Cartographers, That's Pretty Clever, Roll to the Top, Welcome To, and Railroad Ink. (Not sure when the giveaway ends, but whatever. Still want to get my favorites in.) 🙃
I love Spirit Island and Feast for Odin solo, but lately I haven't had as much time and energy for them. I've been having a blast with Final Girl and Project L (using a solo variant from bgg because I did not like the official solo at all). Really appreciate how quick and smooth they both are
I’m with you on this one. Final Girl is my favourite solo game. By far. I even made up some sort of campaign mode. In short, I select five final girls which are high school friends, and then they go from one horror film to the other for five scenarios. When one of them dies, the next one gets a little boost for that scenario. Thematically speaking, one girl leave a weapon hidden for the next friend. It’s a bit silly, but I enjoy it. I tried twice and never got to the end of the fifth scenario, so far.
For whatever reason, farming/ag games are what I want to mostly solo. Fields of Arle rises above all with Viticulture Essential (and Tuscany) right behind. The giveaway game looks super intriguing; I’ve had my eye on it for a minute. Appreciate you!
Final Girl is life. HOWEVER, Turing Machine deserves a honorable mention as one of the most brilliant boardgame designs ive ever experienced
I don't know you, but I can tell by this that I'd like you!
I really liked hostage negotiator as well, the career mode made it really feel like I was doing the job but was dealing with a lot along the way.
Is it really that good of a game? I haven’t looked into the game, but it seems like a puzzly process and elimination type game?
@@Mysmi it kinda is yeah. But in a very good way.
And do note, that while I do love the game, it was its design, and the math that went into it all, that I was praising - not the gameplay itself
Thank you so much for including Oceans: Solo in this list! It's such an honor!
final girl is getting a lot of deserved love here but for me, nemesis takes my #1. it never fails to give me a tense cinematic feeling every time it hits my table
can you play that solo? isn't it too long?
@@ClaudiaRodriguez-yq1qxIt can be! There’s an official solo mode and Nemesis is what got me into solo board gaming. ❣️
Jamie, you’re such an inspiration! I tried Horrified solo after watching your play through and love it! I can’t wait to try more of these games solo.
Final girl is just so special. I have not played a solo game like it. It’s a unique experience every time, the unlimited mix and matching. It’s just so much fun!
My all time favorite solo game is For Northwood. Great replayability, simple rules & quick. It just beat out Onirim.
I agree that Final Girl is an uber awesome game (can’t wait for Season Three to ship). I also love The Bloody Inn!
Jamie, your Solo Mode inspires me to play more solo games. Thank you for sharing your gaming skills with us!
I think Three Sisters is my favorite solo game at the moment, so I’m suuuuuper excited for whatever they have coming.
My favorite solo game, hands down, is Final Girl. You have so many great games on this list...many of them are on mine as well. Great video as always, Jamie!
I love Obsession solo- so I can take my time reading all the flavour text without feeling like I'm holding up the game!
My favorite solo game is Spirit Island. However, I also absolutely love Turing Machine for its innovate design, and I am really looking forward to Ada's Dream.
My favorite is Halls of Hegra. Lots of great games on your list. Thanks for the opportunity to win a game to add to my collection.
Halls of Hegra is astounding! It would reach the top-5 of my list. #1 being Nemo's War.
My favorite solo games change weekly, but this week I’ve been enjoying the Bloody Inn and Deckula. My favorite ButtonShy games this week are the Last Lighthouse and Antinomy. Thanks for the Giveaway opportunity!❤
Iron Helm is my current fav! Thank you
I’m actually a big fan of lucidity. I really like the quality of the dice as well as the push your luckness of it
Agreed! Cool game.
Yes I love final girl too. Did Jeff paint the minis for it? I also liked solo Cosmoctopus and Canvas.
Right now my favorite solo game is Aeon's End, after playing dominion and then getting to play Aeon's End is basically like a Co-op/solo dominion boss battler and it just clicked, very fun! Also have very much loved Set a Watch solo, very fun puzzle!

Three Sisters is easily my favorite solo game, but with Cartographers not far behind! I'm so excited for the revamp of Three Sisters :)
Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective for a long sesh, Fliptown for a short one.
Three Sisters is my favorite solo and I am very happy to hear a new version is on the horizon!!
Great list of solo games. Have either Jeff or you played Spirit Island? If not, give it a try when time allows. Great list. I love Castles of Burgundy. My favorite solo game
My favourite solo board game right now is Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion! Still very new to the hobby, so thanks for this awesome list!

Five Tribes (for games that aren't always solo), as I love abstracts, & the mancala-like aspect of this game makes me feel like I have more opportunity for strategy.
I can't help but give others:
Castle Panic;
Siege Storm, Siege Mode (solo);
Seikatsu;
Temple Island Chess;

I haven't played Final Girl yet; I'll have to check it out (as well as Life of Amazonia, & Black Sonata), as you're the second I've seen to rank it #1.
I am currently enjoying For Northwood! Not sure if you have ever played it, but I know you like trick taking games
Fav solo atm..let's go with For Northwood!
My favorite solo game is For Northwood. Setup is quick as is the game.
My favorite solo board game is The Lost Expedition. Thanks for the giveaway!
I’m interested in trying Final Girl, but as of right now my favorite solo game is still the Imperium series from Osprey Games.
For Northwood is a perfect solo game. Quick and still challenging!
My fav solo game is For Northwood. Thank you for the giveaway. Love your videos.
This is tough! So many goodies out there but Cartographers might be my favorite!
Obsession is my favorite solo _mode._
Final Girl is my favorite solo-only game, but also For Northwood! when I'm short on time.
Final Girl is such a well designed game with amazing production values. Punishing but fun.
I have recently just gotten into playing solo games. Nice way to relax after a long day! My current favorites are Calico, Cartographers, and the Isle of Cats Explore and Draw.
Great list! Does Jamie have a favourite version of Horrified? I think we're partial to Greek Monsters these days just because it's the newest.
(Plus the artwork is cute and the cards are super high quality.)
Thanks for the giveaway chance. Ada’s Dream looks really good too!
Very new to solo board gaming, but my favorite so far is Cascadia. There are so many good choices though I'm very excited to continue trying more!
My favourite solo game at the moment is For Northward. So easy to get out and play with different puzzle everytime.
Me too!
Me three!
Oh! I didn’t know that Life of the Amazonia had a solo mode. I need to check that out! I recently ran through Eila and Something Shiny three times in two weeks. I’m about to start Spire’s End.
Have the best time with it!
I am primarily a solo gamer and here's my top 10 right now:
Honourable Mention: Zhanguo: The First Empire
10. Ezra and Nehemiah
9. Expeditions
8. Scholars of the South Tigris
7. Marvel Champions
6. Nucleum
5. Weather Machine
4. Sabika
3. Wayfarers of the South Tigris
2. Voidfall
1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Change is Constant
Giveaway Entry! (I gave my favourite solo and and then some!)
My favorite solo game (also favorite of all time) is Voidfall. If I want something quicker, then I would probably go for Hadrian's Wall at the moment.
Still want to get my favorites in.) 🙃
My favorite solo game is For Northwood, I enjoy it every time
Set a Watch series is amazing. I recently received the latest one and the Doomed Run campaign, and I cannot wait to get it to the table
Finally got a copy of Onirim and I really love it! Perfect peaceful solo game for me!
Dwellings of Eldervale. Though sometimes Red Rising for an easier setup. Thanks for all the great content!
Honestly I enjoy playing the Loop a ton solo, and Cascadia when im just in a more coffee in the morning mood, lol.
I love Spirit Island and Feast for Odin solo, but lately I haven't had as much time and energy for them. I've been having a blast with Final Girl and Project L (using a solo variant from bgg because I did not like the official solo at all). Really appreciate how quick and smooth they both are
I have so many favorite solo games. The top ones are Horrifies, The Loop and Calico.
