The notion of playing a board game alone always appeals to me, but I always wind up playing a video game instead. Renegade, which took the place of Mage Knight for me, and Fall of Lumen, which is essentially a much heavier AP-inducing Lost Ruins of Arnak, are the only two games I still find myself playing alone.
Don't blame you for preferring video games! Learning rules can be a a chore some times. I'm obsessed with the tactile experiences board games offer though! I also need to get my hands on a copy of Renegade.
I recommend SI with either Jagged Earth or branch and claw very much. It's much more predictable without them and, therefore, brain-burny, since you can plan more turns ahead, which I honestly don't like that much, events slove this issue. The events are an amazing addition, and the extra tokens are a nice additonal layer of strategy that doesn't add much complexity.
Great list mate , I put many of these up in my favourite games of all time , glad you also give bloodborne some love , the combat mechanic is very satisfying in how it feels like playing a souls like. Shadowrun prime runner edition is also great ...just impossible to find high calibre ops. I would also highly recommend catharsis divine wrath , as a great solo scenario driven dice manipulation adventure , with quick set up and tear down .
Nice list mate, I've just got mage knight ultimate in a trade, was just going to sell it on as I really didnt enjoy just the base game that I had, but I'm thinking about giving it another go with all the expansions an new cards. Death Angel and Legacy of Yu came into my collection this year, an I feel they are very near the top of my solo lists now
Thanks for the great list! I do think perhaps you will love Hoplomachus: Victorum, maybe with the expansion since it is supposed to allow shorter campaigns so it may partly address your resistance to campaigns? It is much deeper than Hoplo IMO, since the arena, units, and rules change between battles. I hope you are able to give it a try!
Thank you! Yeah I'm definitely going to get Victorum at this point lol people rave about so much I can't help but want to play it. I didn't know about the shorter campaign expansion, I'll make sure to include it as part of the package.
@@Azure_Death Pandora’s Ruin promises an expedited campaign, I have backed but not really kept up on details, but it was in boats heading to the US as of the Nov 27 update so it shouldn’t be much longer.
Oh man, I hope I can pick up a copy of Dragons Down at some point early this next year. I might pick up Lands of Galzyr though before that to maybe? play with my daughter. Do you think at any point you’re going to play Earthborne Rangers? It seems like with your enjoyment of those Big Three FF LCG games it might be up your alley, unless the theme is a turn-off. Thanks again for a great list - your inclusion of a single Uwe title was absolutely funny as hell and so seemingly at odds with the game experiences you’re heavily invested in!
@@derekrgrote Thank you! I hope you manage to grab a copy of DD! I missed the first Earthborne Rangers kickstarter, but I preordered from their second campaign, I've heard amazing things about it so I'm definitely excited to try it. Yeah I really need to get Feast for Odin and Loyang off the shelf of shame!
Thank you! Yeah multiple people have asked me about that but I don't think the Encounters system would translate 1:1. There's a lot more nuances to Unlimited that would require a more complex and nuanced bot. Not sure how viable it would be.
Thanks for the list. Marvel Champions would be #1 for me because of the variance and replay ability. Mage Knight is great, but I don't have the AE and solo conquest in the base game get's boring. TMB Undertow would be my #2. You should check out some Awaken Realms games. I like Tamashii as it has that mechanic from Bullet. I would put Ark Nova higher o my list, and kick Shadows of Brimstone off. I have Forbidden Fortress, and I find the lack of agency terrible. Maybe the western sets are better in that regard, or the expansions add agency. I agree it feels like Warhammer, the problem is it's Warhammer with no terrain, which is awful. And I do love Warhammer and skirmish games in general.
Thank you for watching! Yeah from Awaken Realms I only have Kings of Ruin, I'm hoping to play through it next year. I've seen Tamashii making the rounds this year, I'll look into it! and Sorry Shadows of Brimstone didn't resonate!
Hi, it depends, are we talking about cards? These days I typically just use BCW trading card game cardboard storage boxes of various sizes, they can be found cheap at local LGS.
I'm in the early stages of an Oathsworn campaign! I'm commited to seeing it through, so hopefully I'll finish it within the next couple of months. I'm probably going to try ATO next year as so many people rave about it I'm genuinely curious. ISS Vanguard was a pass for me, I heard it was a bit repetitive.
Waiting for Christmas vacations for getting several Mage Knight games.
@@TheTintinjb Great way to spend the holidays!
Great list and great video, thanks !

I get it. I am trying to get off the screens since I am on them all day at work.

Why have I never thought to have the solo series war game books spiralized! Heading to Office Depot tomorrow! Thanks!
Great list, as always
Can I just say how awesome it is that there are so many games that we CAN play solo?😊
@@morgaknightgamesAgreed! What a great time to be a board gamer!
Wow ...great list... Couldn't agree more ❤❤!

Have you tried "Cloudspire", more complex that Too Many Bones but very challenging 😊.

I picked up a copy of Mage Knight last week. I can't wait to play it

@Azure_Death For sure. I was thinking SWU might do better with a quest like opponent similar to Lorcana.
Good video.
But what accent is that if i may ask?

@@Azure_Death I was thinking about the plastic cases with modular dividers that you use for tokens and minis.
