Purolator PL14615, I use due to my 6,000 mile oil change intervals would step up to the Purolator Boss, or WIX 57055XP if I wanted to stretch further, but would wait till powertrain warranty is over, and have more oil analysis before I consider.
Other options:
NAPA Gold 7055 with AAA member card you may get as much as 10% Off.
amzn.to/3ymq2Sd Purolator PL14615
amzn.to/3kOd1fJ Purolator PBL14615 Purolator BOSS

Just a suggestion, you should leave the oil fill cap on until you are done cleaning and blowing with compressed air.
Thanks!, Yes, I made a rookie mistake. I was so focused on the content of the video and what I wanted to convey, that I did not notice during filming. This is a learning process for me, and I appreciate your feedback and help improving. Best Regards, Mike
@Es1911sumware Ha,Ha, thanks. That was my first video, and I can't even tell you how stressful it was. I saw a lot of Rookie mistakes, but put it out to show I am not perfect.

Nice video man. Just bought me a 2017 outback and found your video super useful. Totally getting me one of these valves!
Hope you are enjoying your ride, and that the valve is working for you.
great video, thank you for providing this information. Amazon now carries the Purolator PL14615 in case you want to update your list.
Thank You for taking the time to give me feedback. Have a wonderful Holiday!
Great video, one difference I make with my my Fumoto is I drain directly into an empty 5qt oil container and eliminate the pan.
Nice! I don't lift my car that high, to allow me to keep the 5 qt jug up right. You eliminated an extra step of having to drain the pan into a 5 qt jug after you finish.
Hello Everyone, I added some more information that I hope is useful to everyone. Please checkout the description below the video for the updates. Also, I lost my Amazon affiliation due to low number of subscribers, but the links still work for your convenience. Enjoy!
fill your filter half full before install fyi
Good video. Numerous comments were also helpful. What is it with the WIX oil sampling and analysis? Did i miss a follow-up video?
Thank you so much for the feedback. I have been taking oil samples and will post results around January. It's a good way to see how the certain oil is doing in that application. Hope that helps.
I added oil analysis check it out: ruclips.net/video/QO_nwnBLhIE/видео.html
Great video. I have the same car. Can you tell me the Fumoto valve part number that you ordered. The Fumoto site has a few options and I don’t know which one to pick. Thanks
Hi TK, I have links to everything I used, I am no longer affiliated with Amazon as I don't have enough subscribers, but you can at least see what I use and recommend. There are 2 choices: the one I used in the video F108S has a short nipple, and can be used with a hose kit. The F108N may be a better choice as it has a longer nipple that you can slip a hose on, and Fumoto make a slip on cover for the nipple. Hope that helps.
Your engine bay is spotless, care to recommend what you use to keep it looking brand new? Great video by the way, thanks for sharing!
Thanks Peter, I usually clean the engine bay once a year. I use a foaming tire cleaner and wipe off right away with a rag to lift off the dirt. I find that it also keeps dirt from accumulating. Hope that helps. Please see videos of my 2005 Highlander with 170,000 + miles. I have been doing the same on that vehicle for the last 15 years.
I have a brand new Subaru Outback 2020 2.5I 182HP Premium The Outback 2020 manual say 4.4 qt how you put 5 qt in your Outback 17 I saw a lots of people put all 5 qt in their Outback when your manual say 4.4 qt and 4.8 qt for the XT or you have a turbo the Outback 2020 use the PBL14615 Purolator I check in their site and they told to use the PBL-14615
my 2017 asks for 5.2 qts
What do you think about Bosch filters? Bosch 3974 in particular?
The Bosch 3974 is a rebadged Purolator PL14615, buy which is cheaper. Mann + Hummel owns Purolator now, and the supply Bosch. Hope that helps.
High quality oil and filter! 👍🏻
Thank You!
@@justbehandy why not just use the OEM filter from subaru?
@@marcobaraco3000 The filters I suggested are acutely better built and offer better filtration. But doyget me wrong, the O.E. filter is ok, just ok, not great. Hope that helps
Hadn't seen those Fumoto drain valves before, will have to look at that. One thing to note in the video, you probably shouldn't blow dirt off from around the filter will the fill cap off as some of that dirt you are trying to prevent going down the filter hole could be blowing right in to the filler.
Thanks Kevin!, Yes, I made a rookie mistake. I was so focused on the content of the video and what I wanted to convey, that I did not notice during filming. This is a learning process for me, and I appreciate your feedback and help improving. Let me know if you end up getting the Fumoto valve. Best Regards, Mike
@@justbehandy No prob, just thought I'd point it out, made me cringe a little :-).
Love this, what is the cost and where can I get it
I put all the info in the description below. Enjoy
Probably should not be blowing debris around with your oil cap off... like you said, dont want debris going in the engine...
David, thank you for commenting. Yes, this was one of my first videos and I totally stuck to my script and forgot the cap off. I only noticed it during editing, and decided to keep it in to see if viewers are watching, and to show that yep I am an average Joe who makes mistakes. Thanks again for taking time to view my work and I hope it was useful.
Good video, information and content. I've been doing Subaru oil changes since 1995. One of the easiest vehicles to do an oil change on IMHO. Didn't realize that the Purolator 14615 was spec'd to the Subaru bypass. I always use the NAPA Gold 7055 or Wix 57055 which also meets the spec. I've never used the Fumoto as I have wondered if the end screwed into the pan would extend above the bottom of the oil pan and prevent some of the old oil from draining. Otherwise it's an awesome little device.
Thanks Hillbillytruckster (Love the name) NAPA Gold is the Wix 57055 and if you have a AAA member card, you can get a 10% or better discount from NAPA, The nearest NAPA is 15 miles away, so I tend to buy from AMAZON and included what I use.
I was checking in to the 2nd part of your statement about the Fumoto valve sticking out into the pan and preventing oil from fully draining. I think worst case may be 1 Oz. , so not so significant. you probably have around 3+ Oz., in the valvetrain/heads, and other areas it would be suspended during the oil change. Hope that helps.. I will also add the NAPA Gold 7055 filter to the list per your suggestion. Regards, Mike
Is the WIX 57055 the Purolator PL14615 equivalent? How does it differ from the WIX 57712?
@@itskennyyyjai check out www.wixfilters.com/Lookup/InterchangeMultiSearch.aspx?q=57712|57055&o=me
WIX 57055 is 15 micron filtration and WIX 57712 is 21 micron filtration.
PL14615 is equivalent to Wix 57055 and L14615 is equivalent to Wix 57712 the Wix website states that PL14615 is equivalent to Wix 57712, but i think that is mistaken. Hope that helps.
Thank you for the video
Thank you so much for taking the time to give me your feedback. I truly appreciate it. Mike
Oil cap should close when you blow, sir
Thank you. This was one of my first video production and I was forced on content and filming. So I missed it.
Why would you use dirty oil for the filter seal when you jave fresh clean oil for the change? Shame on you and best filter is a wix xl
??? What's wrong with using oil from the old filter on the new filter's face seal/gasket?? It will reduce friction for the seal just fine, it's not he is pouring old oil in the filter.
I've been a mechanic since Reagan did not dye his hair, and this is the way its done. It merely lubes the gasket for ease of removal.
Who says "shame on you" to grown men who freely disseminate valuable and quality information?
Hey Josh, Anthony may be one of those fellows who has never been handy, but has watched a lot of RUclips and does not realize that the used oil on the new filters gasket is only a few drops at most. Maybe he does not realize the difference between watching and doing. In any event I appreciate what you do and the time and effort you put into it. BTW I am a degreed engineer and a Marine Diesel Master Mechanic with lots of grease under my fingernails. Thanks again, I'll be watching.
Thank you for the feedback
