The more I drive my Outback 17 the more I love it. I drove it early in the dark morning through 101 Fwy and accidentally discovered this awesome feature. Thanks for the explanation.
Just want to comment I'm getting a lot out of all your videos. They are clear and informative. I purchased a new 2018 Outback a couple weeks ago, still figuring out all the features. Really liking my Outback...
Great video, you saved me from going through that huge manual the info in the quick guide didn’t go into the detail need to know what you explained - Thanks!
Nice video! Please keep making good video like this. Just a suggestion. The background noise can be a bit annoying. A nice Bluetooth microphone can be a good investment.
Thank you very much for the instructions 🙃 Last time I was wondering why it doesn't work... I've put it on "auto" but didn't push the lever forward 😂...
Mine wasn't working. After this video now I know its because I wasn't in the automatic headlight setting. Thank you. I will also change the sampling rate on the auto on feature.
The setting does NOT change the light sensitivity. It changes the frequency of sampling how dark/light it is. The sensitivity of the light sensor does not change. Setting it to low, for example, stops your lights coming on every time you go under an underpass.
You're the only one who got that right. In the video, he said you're lights will go on and off all the time. Not so. In fact, on some short tunnels or garages, you want to have the lights go on for that shirt period. Placing it at Min will sometimes not allow the lights to go on at all, meaning you have to turn them on yourself. I have mine at MAX and they take 5-6 seconds to go on. Any longer than that and it almost defeatd the purpose of having it.
Problem w/ my 2017 Forester is the time lag. It takes 6-8 seconds to return to bright after oncoming car passes. We live in deer country and can't drive on low-beam. How do you shorten the return-to-high-beam time lag? Thanks. JB
He should also have told you that if you go to car settings on the starlink screen there is a setting for when to turn on your headlights... i.e. how dark it is when your headlights are turned on. What he showed was how often it senses how dark it is.
I’ve a 2018 Impreza Premium with eyesight and the specs say it has high beam assist. At night I keep my headlight in auto and when I push it forward a blue light appears and I can see the high beam is on but I’m not so sure if it works as this video says. I don’t see the blue light turn into green low beam indicator when a car approaching from opposite direction. This makes me nervous of using it. Any idea if the high beam really turns off even if the indicator stays blue? Thanks
About to get an '18 Crosstrek with auto-high beam assist. All it mentions is when another car approaches it will turn off high-beams. But what about when you are coming up behind a car? It's just as annoying to have the high-beams on when you are following a car.
Yes it is for just your normal automatic headlights, ie, when it's dark enough outside they will come on and then turn off during the day. This video, however, is about high beam assist and this feature uses another light sensor to detect light from a car coming in the opposite direction, or from taillights of a car ahead of you, to turn on or off your high beams.
A demo of what the headlights are actually doing when they're adjusting would be cool!

Thank you for this video. I just bought a 2020 Subaru Outback and I don’t think my highbeams shut off with oncoming traffic. I’ll try this tomorrow.
Excellent advise, thank you for sharing your knowledge about 2017 Subaru 2017 Outback
Light sensitivity tip is useful. Didn't have clue how to adjust. Thanks

Nice video series. Thanks for taking the time to put these together.

I had my 2017 for five years and I had no idea I can do this next time I should read the manual thank you
Thank you very much for the instructions

Does it apply to the Crosstrek?

Wish this could be done on older generations of Outback - my 2012 drives other vehicles nuts when I go under an overpass.
Will this HBA work in a 2015 outback limited or is it not a feature for the 2015 model?

i assume if its camera its programmed to only search for specific light. so they maybe able to re program the camera for this.
Amazingly it seems to work for being behind cars as well. I drive very little at night, but it does seem to work.
so what switch are you using to change the screen menu too bad you assumed i would know which button
Thanks! Very useful
I have a 2017 Forester. I'd like to change the high beam sensitivity. This isn't quite what I see when I tried this. Ideas?
You need to go through the same process but using the central upper screen and navigate using central arrows and enter button
This entire time I thought the sensitivity was seeing other cars on the road at night.
Can you please show how to change the quick reply messages? my salesman deleted one and it's ghosted out. It won't let me fix it.
Okay but how do I turn High beam assist completely off on my 2021 Subaru Impreza Limited?
Yo dawg I heard you like cameras in your Subaru so I put a camera in your Subaru to show you the 4 cameras in the Subaru
It works on the forester too but the first time i tried it it didn't work for some reason. I feel bad for person who had to come past me.
Show me a Subaru article that the light sensitivity from the factory is too high as you claim.
Nice package Brendan
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing!!!
Thank you.
I thought the auto headlight sensor was the little button like sensor in front of the center speaker there on the dash at the base of the windshield.

Hi can you do same video for 2017 forester please Thank you
It works the same way for the Forester.
Groove Subaru Thank you mate i brought 2017 subaru foreater special edition last 22 . Enjoying every moment thank you again
Good info. Plus the guy is super cute.
Agree!
its very sensitive and needed to turn it all the way down to low.
unable to get auto headlights to come up .
you may not have this feature
better to show how it works rather than tell us. Also at night would be better to judge how it works.
Need a "geezer" version! Speak more slowly.....great idea.
