Despite not agreeing about the weight of 4lbs on a laptop being an issue for niche use, I love this review and appreciate the insight. I will certainly sub. The long term reviews are soooo under appreciated. Thanks dude!

Although Microsoft doesn't mention it there's obviously a fourth mode: The presentation mode.
You can flip the display 180 degrees around in order to show someboy sitting on the opposite of yourself the content on the display. That prevents you from turning the who device around if you want to show something to someone in front of you.

    • @msp5138
      @msp5138 2 года назад +10

Exactly, that mode is also the best way to use the laptop as a second screen hooked up to an external monitor and typing on a bluetooth keyboard...

Windows Central reported over 11 hours of battery life for both 60 hz and 120 hz using PCMark 10 battery's test.
They also note that sound of the laptop changes depending on the mode you are using. Bass is more prominant in stage mode.
Finally, the laptop weighs 4 lbs. So if people consider that heavy, time to goto the gym.

the only thing I dsagree with is my use it in my lap all the time. no pain of any kind. I certainly don't hold it up like you might with a tablet but sitting in my lap or more usually on my lap desk it works great. I'm really looking forward to this laptop. I played with it at best buy. The sound sounds amazing, love the tent mode, keyboard, and the display. How has your battery life been? The down said would be the lack of ports. I originally got the news MBP 16 M1Pro because of the ports. But I got caught up in the specs and not everyday use for me.

With my use as described in the video I get 3-4 hours on a full charge. With outlets around I don't think it would be a problem but for someone like me that travels through a few cities in a single day it isn't the best option.

I am struggeling with myself about buying the surface laptop studio or a mac book pro m1. I am a windows guy and I am happy with windows most of the time but i am not happy about some ms decisions. You said that you have audi issues. Everyone else says that they like the audio quality of the laptop. seems that you might have a defect on your device. and this is the problem. I am using an surface book and i have defects too. i bought my device with pixel errors. I am sure that this happens often. I also dont understand why they havent at least one usb port. I mean even appe go back the standard usb ports.... but my biggest disappointment is that my surface book is not compatible with windows 11. This feels like a bad joke and i am very angry about it. the cool thing on the surface book / studio family is that it is an laptop an a tablet in one. You're right the audio problem on mine was a defect with my device. So don't expect that to be with yours - your main considerations are battery life, price and are you REALLY going to use the tablet mode? If so this is the only laptop that can offer those with amazing specs. However, if battery life is important, and if you want even better specs then the M1 mac or for windows the DELL XPS (actually cheaper) but a better specsheet.

The 120hz screen is pointless for this device in my opinion. Windows 11 animations and scrolling are jerky and not smooth at all. It's that bad I don't notice the difference between that and 60hz.
Note taking is also an issue. Whiteboard had so many bugs I've stopped using it and use one note instead. With one note if you select draw straight lines it doesn't line up with where you touch the screen and again it's not smooth at all. The side button on the pen can't be reprogrammed. What?!
Two finger scrolling is slow and tiring. There's no option to adjust it. Trackpad has problems for me where it will randomly jump sometimes by about 1cm. Deal breaking.
Really wanted to like this device but unless MS can fix the issues it's going back.

"There is just not enough ports to justify the price point."
What the fuck is he talking about?! You value a computer on the number of ports it has?

    • @ChilledFossilofficial

Yeh ... more ports for SD/Obs on a computer made for creatives would justify the price moreso... definitely not worth it for most people considering the competition.

Dude, none of your “issues” make any sense… you were just making stuff up to make something to complain about. Speakers “are horrible”, really?! Have you ever listened to any other laptop speakers ? Those are one of the best speakers in a laptop period! The impression I had from this video is that you wanted to show off with an unusual laptop but you had no clue what it was designed for 🤷🏼

Wholly agree stiffer hinges for more versatility would be a HUGE plus.

True. I'm a big fan of the Surface Book 3, which this device replaces. I have the 15", 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD with the 1660 Ti Max Q NVidia GPU. Like the Surface Laptop Studio, I get full Windows PC laptop performance but can also remove the display and draw ob that which is just over 1 lb.
The downside of the galaxy tab and ipad (for me) is that thier not "all in one" devices, in that thier not full Windows PCs. I know there are folks who have adaptedtjier workflow to an ipad with keyboarf and select apps, but even with iOS 15, it stikk doesnt hit that PC like experence for me.
I do love the drawing experience on the ipad though.

Nice review. I think that this is a niche, form over function device that like the Surface Book, is flawed and therefore really only for diehards that are willing to forsake user experience for something new and shiny.
The Surface Book died a natural death due to having all the components in the display meaning that it was thermally challenged; MS may revisit this form if they can ever get WOA working properly. This Surface Studio fails due to not getting the fundamentals right, these have to be on task if you are charging so much. The price, the battery life and the practicality of such a cumbersome tablet mode makes it a tough buy.
I am still of the opinion that with this budget it is far more sensible to buy two devices, a great laptop and a good tablet. Especially as OEMs are pushing the ecosystem so a Tab S8+ can act as a secondary display if you are not using it as a tablet. I feel for productivity, on the go stamina and user experience, two devices remains the go-to choice for sensibility.

but with the s8+ and having a laptop to carry that just means having the hassle of charging and carrying both devices and if even if u get a tablet and laptop u may sacrifice performance on the laptop side to be using that as the main daily driver for performance, as for a content creator or an artist you need the power of the GPU and CPU to process everything and get it done to an exceptional standard, sure the s8+ is amazing I'm sure of it but its most likely that your tablet is to over power your laptop at the price range ofc it varies on the specs and pricing of the surface studio in comparison but its just hard to get an overall balance between both. as an architecture student a laptop like this can make the ease of my product flow exceptionally quick and easy, but it just depends what youre using it for and who's using it, I say this is more targeted towards the more creative and artist side sector of ppl.

It's a MacBook pro, but with windows on the outside, that's what I'm looking for, but on the inside, it's not even close as powerful as a MacBook m1 pro. For coding, I think this will gonna feel slow in about a year or less. I want a laptop that is good for coding and gaming as well, with a minimalistic aesthetic
