Garrus provides the truest characterization of the Reapers -- "a never-ending nightmare factory."

I think this part, this section where the music plays, is what first sold me on the idea of just how powerful the Reapers actually were. Watching the ships in the background decimating anything they saw, seeing what them just walking had caused. This theme is what really made me want to finish the game.
    This.. and Legion. Keelah se'lai.

Dunno. For me that idea was well established since ME2's ending scene. Watching that immense armada, and not that long after having had to deal with Sovereign (I binge-played all games together maybe one year ago, so I got me the whole trilogy and DLCs and played them in a single go), gave me a very vivid impression of what was coming.
And of course minutes after finishing ME2 I fired up ME3. So again, I had it fresh on my mind. I really didn't need the reminder. Not one like this at any stage...
For me Thessia was soul crushing, and if anything made me feel like giving up (methaforically, there was NO WAY I was giving the game up XD). Hearing all the comms of the Asari troops being massacred while asking wether I had gotten what I needed from the temple was horrible. Then you watch the reapers land straight on top of them while you get to hear the cries of terror. Doesn't help cheering you up. And when Shepard walks away from the comms room after the hologram-conversation with the Asari council member, that was kind of the nail on the coffin. I truly felt like "$hit we're so effed up, I've effed it up so much". I really really felt like crap, like throwing the arms in the air and say "that's it, we're done, fuck this, I'M DONE"...
Man o man, even with the way EA forced Bioware to rush ME3 (with the all well known issues for the ending, and the storyline itself), this game...man. THIS GAME. Something that makes you care that much is just art.
Thankfully Citadel DLC was next. That cheered me up quite a lot, hehehehe.

@@ramjb I agree, seeing the end scene in ME2, yeah... Doom felt, inevitable... And damn if you didn´t make me wanting to binge the games again. Guess I know what I will do this weekend and next week.

The strings makes this track SO tense. I love when it played in MP because of how desperate and tense things would get. But also hated being extracted to this song because those strings are HAUNTING when the counter is nearing zero and Phantoms, Banshees, and a Brutes are crawling in the LZ. You never knew if one of you wass gonna get picked off the last second.

Although this track first plays on Thessia, I will always associate it with Sanctuary on Horizon. This track is appropriate for fighting your way through Reaper troops and uncovering the horrors of that place.

Something I find so fascinating is the asari essentially lied about so much to look good. They had everyone convinced thessia had not fallen and that they were fighting strong. Until you show up and realise thessia going to be the first planet to just be overrun completely. They just have remnants of soldiers fighting back which really can’t do anything. Liara shows this as she is completely shocked thessia is in such a dire state. She thinks her race are the ones who are fighting back the most compared to the other races.
