This is one of the best interviews I’ve seen. Ever. So well done. Will is so engaging. The story about Steve Cropper and their dad’s was very emotional. I think many of us can relate. Wonderful job😄🙏
Been a huge fan of Will for years. Such a monster player and criminally underrated. The walk down from the V chord in the intro is so simple but it’s perfect. And that TONE!!! Great episode!
These interviews are almost therapeutic . ...love these . These fine musicians are the magic behind years of incredible music we've all grown up on and enjoyed. Thank you.
I’ve come back to this interview countless times. It’s truly one of my favorite Truetone Lounge videos. So many great stories with invaluable wisdom sprinkled throughout. Not to mention his tone in the playing segments… just incredible!
This is about my 4th time watching this video… this time on my iPhone so I feel very compelled to comment now… what a true talented musician and great overall guy Will is. Such an awesome interview, honest and heart felt. Will seems like he’d be the ideal person to create music with, down to earth and real. Made my day again. ✌️ Thanks Zac!
I'm only 50 minutes into this, but all of these interviews should be required viewing for all beginning guitar players who want to be a well rounded and grounded musicians. Thanks again Zac & Truetone The 2nd half is even better - dang, thanks again!
So great !! I totally enjoyed this interview with Will.... thanks for all you do Zac..... These are the greatest !! You do a wonderful job interviewing these incredible players !!
Man, what a great conversation. I’m watching this in the spring of ‘23. I’m finding myself watching a lot of Zac’s ‘interviews’ lately. He has a true talent for it. He has just the right questions and gives people space to say what they have to say in their own pace. His body language during these conversations sais it all. 🖖
What a fabulous interview with a lovely and talented guy. So many of these great interviews open my eyes to players I've never heard of (but I'm sure I've heard). Thank you for continuing to share them.
Zac, I've loved watching all of these interviews. This one was special. Will was extraordinarily honest and it was touching. What a beautiful soul. Thanks so much for doing this kind of work. These guys are musical treasures.
Wow, this guy seems just great: humble, kind, funny -- this is my first awareness of him, which just shows you how many talented and wonderful musicians I have yet to discover. Thanks for this fabulous interview.
As many times I've heard your stories Will, this has to be one of the best interviews ever. Just so you know, I never tire of hearing the stories. Love from Jean and I !
Entirely apart from his guitar skills, Will is a very deep and warm individual, he deserves whatever success and happiness that comes to him. Joy exudes from him. I'm up in age, a couple of years older than Will but when I "grow up", I wanna be like him. ;)
This by far is one of the best subjects and players I have ever seen on your videos. This individual is the most deserving guest you have had, and his humility for as such a talented musician he is, makes the video that much more interesting and entertaining. Great video!
Love this interview! So many hours listening to him play with Bonnie Raitt during my high school years - great memories! Saw him play here in Nashville with a new band, Big Shoes. Had no idea he was in this band, playing on a Thursday night and was SO excited to realize he was there!
Amazing interview, the story about his dad really got me in the gut. The whole interview was just amazing, i live down the road in Talladega and have met some of the people that work around those studios but I’ve never visited. Thanks Zac for bringing this, And thank you Will for sharing your story. You people are just amazing. I’m out... Peace!
I'm a mutt too... I play a real bad acoustic guitar, but I know all the songs and lyrics from the past 60 years... lol... so I get to sing and play in a band with real musicians... thanks so much for this peep into this mans life... all them tunes and tones are so familiar... and you let these guys tell the story... like Will said. "it ain't what you do, it's what you don't do"... pure pleasure... and what a guy to have in a band!!!...
An amazing and articulate man. Thanks for the interview - really enjoyed it. These interviews are an important archive as some of these legends shuffle off this mortal coil.
Thank you for this interview, and all your hard work on all the interviews. I have thoroughly enjoyed every one. Want to especially thank you for the excellent sit down with my hero Reggie Young , so happy you captured that before he died.R.I.P Reggie. Kudos to you Zac, Thanks again.
Another great interview, Zac. Somewhat familiar with the Bonnie records of that era but was not familiar with Will by name. I'll be digging into his discography for sure. What a class guy and great player. Thank you.
Loved the playing, the pace of the interview, and Will's story overall. I like his complex attack and delicious timing. Phrasing, groove, feeling, tone, it's all there. An hour well spent.
Really great interview. Never heard of Will before but thought his insights into life as a musician and life itself wonderful. On the back of this found the Bonnie gig on the Old Grey Whistle Test on RUclips and I highly recommend it. As Will says, it’s the bits you leave out to let the song breathe.
I met Will at a luthiers show in Chatauqua, NY in 08. Nice guy, amazing player. I remember him asking to borrow a small Champ style amp I had built a few years earlier for workshop in progress. No problem! When my son, Ryland and I returned from a dinner break, I immediately saw the amp was missing from our booth. I was a bit panicked until I looked on the stage and saw it set up with a mike in front of it. Will used it for the evening show and was enamored with the sound it produced. There's a nice endorsement on my web site as well. Will, nice to see you're still alive and kicking!
Will graced my session in Muscle Schoals and played a great solo on a gospel tune I did called “I’ve Got a Rock” produced by drummer Mike Caputy. You can search for the video here on RUclips. He’s a beautiful person and great player… a winning combination!
Thank you Will McFarlane for this great interview ! I love hearing this inside stuff. Greetings from the Netherlands...I'll post this video on my fansite of Bonnie Raitt, www.bonnieraitt.eu
I jammed with Will once back in the day when he was doing the gospel thing. Easy to get along with, unlike another extremely popular Christian guitarist / prima donna I won't mention.
This is one of the best interviews I’ve seen. Ever. So well done. Will is so engaging. The story about Steve Cropper and their dad’s was very emotional. I think many of us can relate. Wonderful job😄🙏
Many of us can relate to the story about Cropper and his dad, and Will's father. I really appreciate him sharing that. Zac
Been a huge fan of Will for years. Such a monster player and criminally underrated. The walk down from the V chord in the intro is so simple but it’s perfect. And that TONE!!! Great episode!
He has a great touch! Zac
These interviews are almost therapeutic . ...love these . These fine musicians are the magic behind years of incredible music we've all grown up on and enjoyed. Thank you.
They are therapeutic to us too. Zac

Made my day again. ✌️ Thanks Zac!
He still sounds like a 20-something kid in awe of what he’s been chosen to do. A student of his craft even now. Love these interviews, Zack.👍🏼👍🏼

A real treat to sit down with. Zac
Will graced my session in Muscle Schoals and played a great solo on a gospel tune I did called “I’ve Got a Rock” produced by drummer Mike Caputy. You can search for the video here on RUclips. He’s a beautiful person and great player… a winning combination!
