The five-question technique discussed in this video offers a refreshing way to deal with negativity. Asking 'What am I thinking right now?' and 'Is this thought helpful?' are such powerful tools for grounding oneself in the present moment. It’s not about denying or fighting against unwanted thoughts, but rather acknowledging them and choosing how to respond mindfully. This method aligns beautifully with the principles of mindfulness and self-compassion, promoting a healthier relationship with our own minds. It’s a practical guide for anyone looking to cultivate more peace and clarity in their life

I am trying. So hard. For 23 years now. And I'm 55. I still have not mastered control of my mind. It is too hard! I feel I can't do it! I've been following the Eighfold Path for so long..... I MUST keep trying. I'm so lost.
My mom is so sick--this is the first time she's been in the hospital for 6 days now, and I am so scared. I'm legally blind, have never been able to drive, I live wayyy out in the country, 35 miles from the hospital. All of my friends and family died from Covid or Cancer. I'm so scared. Mom has neither, but can't stop throwing up, won't keep food down, won't eat. I'm so scared!!! So I keep trying.
I keep reading my Dhammapadda. I am sorry, teacher, I do not know your name, but I watch your videos almost every day, and I take notes in a special Braille notebook just for myself. I can't stop crying. I'm so alone and scared. Mom has just GOT to come home!! Thank you, teacher, for everything! I will keep trying!

So sorry to hear about your difficult struggle and your mother being unwell.
You sound very stressed and my heart goes out to you.
I find Theravada "the Buddha's word's a good book to fall back on when i stray...it makes simple sense out of what could appear complicated at times. Reading the Buddhas words on understanding the nature of mind really really does being me back to myself and gain control over my thoughts feelings emotions and corrects my actions and influence in the world of action as well in my personal practices.
Book is called The Buddha's Words - edited by Bhikkhu Bodi .
I wish to ease your anxiety and stress as your not alone with stress and worry. My partner is very unwell and im recently struggling with myself and coping.
I always recommend finding a meditation and yoga teacher. There are some fantastic practitioners out there who we learn from.
Warmest of thoughts n feelings to you my friend

Supreme Buddha says, “All conditioned things are impermanent' - when one sees this with wisdom, one turns away from suffering”.
Supreme Buddha explains how there are five processes over which human beings have no control:
      1. Growing old
      2. Falling sick
      3. Death and destruction
      4. Decay of perishable things
      5. The passing away of that which is liable to pass.
Once you are born, you grow, develop, become an adult until at some point you will die. In the adult life your relationships will change, your ideas and opinions will certainly change, and so will you. Everyone grows older and everything changes. No one can escapes these five aspects of impermanence until one achieves Nibbana, Hence Keep reflecting on the impermenent nature of reality.
So keep trying, your effort will help you in your next lives to come for sure. If it does not help in this life itself.
May you be well and happy, all the best to you 🙏🙏🙏

You don't control your mind! You control your awareness. You are pure awareness moving about through many different areas within the mind. The beautiful thing is that you are capable of moving your awareness where you want it to be. And remember that where awareness goes, energy flows. So don't give negative areas in your mind too much energy, or they will grow.

Beneficial thoughts are very wholesome, but not immediately. If there is no quick result, many people don't have the patience to keep on thinking in a beneficial way. But after 15 years of 'training', I - as a lay person - can confirm it is really worth it! It's still improving day by day and I hope to be able to keep on improving for the rest of my life 🙂

Yes this is good to solve our day to day problems. What actually happening is part of the mind is analysing the other part of the mind and replacing some thoughts with another thoughts. Good for the lay people to solve their problems. By going through the comments also I have seen this is correct. But the aim of dealing with mind is completely switching off It. As Muni Patanjali says Yogassa chitta vritti nirodhaha.

Thank you for sharing such a meaningful and insightful video. The discussion about how our mind becomes a better servant when controlled, but a harsh master when left unchecked, is truly transformative. I particularly found the explanation at 03:13, where you emphasize the importance of asking "What am I thinking right now?" to bring the mind into the present moment, to be profoundly practical and relatable. It’s a powerful reminder of how often we live in the past or future and miss the beauty of the present. Looking forward to more wisdom-filled videos like this one!

Dear great guru. Your words are a relief to many of the problems that I face in my life. So I thought of asking for help to get out of a dilemma that I have been suffering without a proper solution. When I am leading a group of people and their mistakes disturb my performance I get angry because it prevents me from doing my task properly. I am aware that getting angry is negative. But if I cannot get things done without shouting at the irresponsible members how could I be satisfied. Please help me get out of this dilemma. Namo buddhya
