Yes this is good to solve our day to day problems. What actually happening is part of the mind is analysing the other part of the mind and replacing some thoughts with another thoughts. Good for the lay people to solve their problems. By going through the comments also I have seen this is correct. But the aim of dealing with mind is completely switching off It. As Muni Patanjali says Yogassa chitta vritti nirodhaha.

Excellent! With your comments on sugar you touch on addiction. In addiction one follows an impulse toward immediate pleasure that results in suffering afterward. But the attraction of immediate gratification is hard to resist and the memory of suffering gets minimized. It's a biochemical problem we're born with to varying degrees. Obvious cases, looked down on, are with drugs, alcohol, sex, and overeating. But subtle addictions, socially approved, are to work, accomplishment and success. All these are good in moderation, but often are indulged to extremes, throwing off balance and harmony in a life, costing in mental and physical health, and relationships. A talk on dealing with the addictive tendency would be helpful!

Beneficial thoughts are very wholesome, but not immediately. If there is no quick result, many people don't have the patience to keep on thinking in a beneficial way. But after 15 years of 'training', I - as a lay person - can confirm it is really worth it! It's still improving day by day and I hope to be able to keep on improving for the rest of my life 🙂
