  • This is a quick reference guide on making a crochet Pot Holder. I use a size “H” hook. It is quite simple once you see how it's done. You can make them any size you want.After I did this Video I added 2 styles of Pot Scrubbers and a Dish Cloth to the pattern. The cost is now $1.00. Pattern available at: .www.ravelry.co... Add more foundation chains to make them bigger or less foundation chains to make it smaller. I find 34 chains makes a nice size.

    I don't think I mentioned on the video that the best yarn to use is 100% Cotton like Sugar n Cream or Peaches N Cream. Cotton absorbed heat where an acrylic radiates heat out to the fingers.

      More than that, acrylic is essentially plastic so heat will make it melt. I made a coaster for my morning coffee at work (mostly for when it's lukewarm) so I wouldn't leave coffee stains on my desk and even my slightly warm (not hot!) Ceramic to go coffee mug made it melt ever so slightly. Please use 100% cotton!

      Great job on your first try! It is an easy pattern, but still needs Crochet knowledge to comp,eye. That was my fault, I don't think I mentioned not to use acrylic yarn. It does not absorbe heat like cotton, it radiates heat to the fingers, but like you say practice makes perfect.

    I love this patten and I’ve made several potholders with it. It is important to note that these should be made with 100% cotton yarn so they don’t melt against a hot pot.

    • @stitchniche2339
      @stitchniche2339  3 года назад

      You are correct about it having to be 100% cotton. My dad gave me a set made out of acrylic. Didn’t work at all. But, didn’t want to hurt his feelings. So used them when he came for a visit. I’m glad you enjoy making them. I do too.

    Wow, timing is everything. I just did one of these a few days ago, but I didn't see your video first, so I missed a couple of things, like sewing the ends together. I just did single crochet stitches down the line instead. It's okay, and I can use it myself, but there's a distinctive ridge running down the center where the seam is, whereas your seam is nearly invisible. On my pot holder, that ridge is going to get in the way a little, but live and learn. I'll make my next one like yours. I also didn't think to stitch through both sides in two or three places to keep the finished pot holder from separating in the middle. Again, next time I'll know. Anyway, thanks so much for your clear tutorial. I appreciate the instruction.

    • @stitchniche2339
      @stitchniche2339  5 лет назад

      I did the same as you. Experimented with different ways of making the pot holder. Each time I made one, I tried something different to make it better.
      I’m glad my video was of help to you. You can also instead of sewing the outside loop to close. Try sewing the inside loop. It will look a little different. I like it better. Gives it a little different look.

    • @lindarobey8935
      @lindarobey8935 5 лет назад

      I love this crochet potholder pattern....but I am using a "G" hook because I my crocheting tends to be loose and sometimes "loopy" looking. I crochet these potholders for Christmas presents.

    • @stitchniche2339

      It’s great when you know your crochet ability. I crochet just a tad tight so I have to use an H to a hive a good tension. They do make the best Christmas presents. Keep on kerpin’ on with your crochet.

    My favorite potholder pattern ever! I do 34 stitches as well but you can chain more to make a hot pad for a pot. It will be square but I have manipulated it to make a rectangle. You don’t crochet as may rows for a rectangle. I can’t remember how exactly to do it so you’d have to play around with it for a rectangle.
    This potholder has been around for years. It’s called magic square. But of course someone renamed it Origami hot pad. It’s also call fold in on yourself hot pad. Very easy pattern and very versatile. I use variegated yarn or one or more skeins to make stripes. Use 100% cotton yarn. I use Peaches and Cream but there are others available. I use an H hook. Make sure your stitches aren’t too loose. You want them to be snug. Don’t use acrylic because it will melt and can catch fire easily.

    • @stitchniche2339
      @stitchniche2339  4 года назад

      To do rectangle don’t put the tab on it. When you lay it flat push one side up while pushing other side down and it will make a triable. Then sew together and crochet tab on after

    • @Blessed-2-b-a-Hembree
      @Blessed-2-b-a-Hembree 4 года назад

      Stitch Niche
      I crochet my tab on the last round. I manipulate it into place then put a stitch marker in the stitch where I want the tab. It’s just easier for me that way. I’ve been making them again because you’ve inspired me.

    Mattress stitch is great for the closing, it’s virtually invisible. I do like your idea of tacking the thing together a few times!
    Another nice touch is to slip stitch through each chain on the little ring holder, which gives it more stability and prevents stretching if you actually hang the potholder.
