Thank you for yet another intelligent, honest and useful review. The interior technology is a true deal breaker. Having to take your eyes off the road is clearly dangerous. Isn't this why it is illegal to operate a cell phone while driving? Having driven extensively on the Autobahn, I found that above a certain speed I couldn't even bring myself to glance at the speedometer and I had my wife call out the speed. While less of an issue here in the States, it illustrated to me how much distance a car travels during a glance away from the road. Further, the glare from the instruments at night is tough on anyone with glasses. Many people over the age of 50 start to have difficulty seeing things up close. If you are far sighted and don't have progressives you will have difficulty. It would be interesting to know how many accidents are caused by driver inattention due to interior touch screens. Does anyone have these data? It would be a fascinating story. Personally I get extremely car sick using touch screens while driving. I may be unusual in this regard- it would be good to know if others suffer from this. Lastly, your long-term review of the MDX Type S now looms large. Normally Acura is not on my radar. But your review of it (except for the transmission) was really compelling. And now the new Cayenne - one of my favorites - just came out and the interior is almost entirely touch screens. As far as I can tell, this leaves the MDX Type S as one of the few SUVs that is nice to drive whose major interior operations can still be performed with physical controls. If that car is truly on par with some of the German rivals, it may be the last refuge for people who dislike or cannot use touch screens in this segment.

But the rearwards shots often have such overvibrant greens for example that the reflection of the vegetation on their faces looks like moss growing on their cheeks.

I see a lot of EQS sedans and SUVs on the road here in SoCal. Interestingly enough, I've yet to see one with a "Hyperscreen", which honestly doesn't surprise me at all.
Imagine the things that can break down with all the electronics and cost to repair that down the road, keep it simple appears to have been lost somewhere along the design journey. Appreciate the honest review as always.
A screen to see my maps, a great audio system, ice cold A/C, and good supportive seats. That’s all i need. The rest of the effort can go to safety and driving dynamics.
I wish there was statistics to show this is what is needed. Yes touch screen is popular but are they chasing the trend? Honest review! Comment for that algorithm!
I was at a dealership for a GLB a little while ago and my wife had left me to deal with sales after her approval. Didn’t get car but had a bunch of time and asked to test drive the EQS while waiting. God damn it’s nice, however, I think many people like myself prefer a bit more of an analog experience. My wife’s boyfriend prefers the subtle tech of my wife’s XC60. By far it’s leagues behind in regards to tech but after driving the EQS and getting over the wow factor of a new luxury EV, the T8 powertrain on my XC60 is just as quick and preferred the not so in my face amount of tech.
Wow!! Not sure if he just got a shitty EQS thats not outfitted with all of the comforts and options that comes with but I totally disagree with him. I have owned my EQS 580 and it has all I mean all of the options available on the EQS. As of today I have driven 17,072 miles and drive 40 minutes in the morning and an hour in the afternoon. I can tell you that this is the absolute best car I have ever driven. Yes it's expensive and its not for everyone but those who can afford it should get it and not listen to this review. This car is so beautiful from the inside and out. The comfort is the reason I spent past $150K and comfort is what defines this EQS. Its so quite inside that a business owner like myself has time to think and not be distracted by all of the noise outside. The music!! Oh my god it's love love love. The sound system is amazing (once you finally get it fine tuned to your liking). It took me about 6 months to figure out how to actually enjoy this car and I think I am about 50% there. There is so much to this car and so many options to make you comfortable that test driving it for a day or so will not give you the driving or the comfort experience that it offers.
@Nomen Clature You can say that about cars, and trucks. They're all the same shape. The difference is some are more reliable than others. I'd easily trust a Honda/Acura over a Kia/Genesis/Hyundai any day.
Long term watcher and SG cheerleader. Just a consideration for your channel when reviewing 'everyday/appliance EVs', maybe not this luxury one. It would be insightful technical data point for you guys to present 'charging curves' which could be a useful talking point in comparing against competitors when applicable, like against the BMW iX in this case. It seems to be an important datapoint for individuals interested in traveling those short road trips like 2-4 hours out and back (charging once at your destination), like a local ski / weekend trip out of town.
Every MB vehicle used to have exposed door handles that could be gripped and hooked for easier opening, especially after a crash. Maybe the door handles on this car are programmed to pop out when an airbag deploys, but this is certainly not a "safety first" design.
I am not a fan of the interior - I drive a GLE with the new-ish style MBUX tech - just a screen for driver's dash and one for the middle, but I still have physical buttons for climate control. I like it - they should have kept this design. The big screen at the center console in this vehicle is too much. Then the new GLC looks a bit silly because of this too. Hope they tone it down for newer gens. Always love how Mercedes cars drive, very smooth and quite compared to competitors.
This is cool and all but like.... With this much technology there is no way it will all work correctly in 15-20 years. Also, how ridiculous is it that there are electric "AMG" models... So much for 1 man 1 machine.
10 years after they stop production is when they are no longer required to have parts support IIRC. All these tech heavy cars will be a nightmare in the future. TBH all the early EVs are probably going to be very disposable anyways. Who will want to put a replacement pack in one when it wears out.
Hell, I'd buy an excellent Rav4 before that Merc POS. Poor Geese, having to review such things. Ah well, guess they can't all be Vettes, BMWs and Porsches 🤨...A Man has to put food on his table.
No why should this be the case? A breakthrough in batt tech will make batteries smaller (geometrically) and the cars lighter but what else? The OEMs may choose to give the cars more capacity, although I doubt it. 150kWh will be the maximum even in luxury department cause that's enough for like 750km without recharging and why would you need more? For the little people 100kWh will be deemed enough. Now trucks like the Ford lightning will be a different matter, cause towing reduces range much more.
The excuse they give for distractions is that the car can stop itself from crashing. This teaches people that they no longer have to pay attention and leave the responsibility of crash prevention to the car. Sad.
That's only if you get the white paint. But seriously... I'm editing what I wrote explaining that one could find themselves with $2,500, but per a site after I wrote a snarky-but-factual answer, apparently most leases right now for "well qualified buyers" is half that or $1,250 range. This said, I'm not sure how Mercedes won't be eating its lunch at that low (yes, low) a rate for residual in three years considering like most German cars it will depreciate nearly half in that time.
I think the more basic 12.3 screen available on lower spec trim levels to be vastly superior to the Hyperscreen. While Mercedes is doing some amazing work with efficiency and with actually maintaining a high charging rate (when you can find a charger that can deliver), they price themselves beyond the competition.
On any given day, you encounter stupid and distracted drivers. We've all seen them and have avoided (I hope) accidents screaming at them to get their heads out of their butt when they drive. So, Mercedes builds a car whose dashboard is a video game. What could possibly go wrong?
Base model Lucid Air is $138k ($1299/mo lease deals on the website at the moment), and they're bringing out the Gravity SUV soon. You can get Lucid Air on lease for half the monthly payments of this. Unreal.
Agree! I did spend my money on a regular ICE SUV, albeit it partners a BMW i3 EV. The infrastructure isn’t there for my needs yet and I’ve a larger, more useable car that isn’t blighted with touch screens
Seems like regular car makers have drastically improved and become far more luxurious whereas “luxury “ makes haven’t been improving. Certain basic features should be a minimum to have a brand classified as luxury.
Your the only channel I will willingly watch videos of vehicles I would never buy even if I had the means to. To me...this car would barely impress me if it was 65k. Well over 100k for that? Nah I am good...if I had a 100k to spend on a electric luxo barge id be looking at Lucids
To all the Cayenne fan boys, aside from gripping corners and avoiding body roll, this car runs circles around it in every other category including power delivery. I was also considering a Cayenne and this car is far more luxurious.
So since im not hear just to complaind about evs or Mercedes because im not a hater. Ill say i do care much for the hyper screen however i understand the wow factor that can have. The eqs car and suvs are the 2nd most common luxury ev i see and they cost alot of money. Clearly the buyers like it but i doubt many have the hyper screen though.
The biggest leap forward in innovation isn’t more electronics, it’s precision manufacturing. When will the manufacturers figure out that luxury is found in manufacturing products that feel hand built and timeless, not in adding more electronics. Nothing feels more temporary than a two year old computer.

If that car is truly on par with some of the German rivals, it may be the last refuge for people who dislike or cannot use touch screens in this segment.
bro what’s the fucking point of writing this much😂😂
I found myself more impressed with the camera equipment and editing proficiency you guys use/have.
Weird you say that, because this video was full of different styles of bad color and lighting. I am wondering whether it looks OK on an HDR display, but it shouldn't be incompatible with non-HDR.
@@Dowlphin looks great on HDR, but there are some inconsistencies. That said, coloring HDR footage is tough so it’s just gonna be a learning process for their workflow.
@@SixSpeedSeven And I don't understand where exactly the difficulty lies. As a layman I imagine you have parameters that you can tweak and then you look at the result and if that looks close to real-life, then you've done a good job.
I have seen those super-pale shots in the past, in many non-HDR-videos, so I wonder whether that's a deliberate stylistic choice that I don't understand.
But the rearwards shots often have such overvibrant greens for example that the reflection of the vegetation on their faces looks like moss growing on their cheeks.
As always -- I appreciate the SavageGeese perspective of a vehicle. Thanks for being there for us!
Damn, it’s like these manufacturers are so desperate to barf up EVs they’ll cut corners and slap lipstick on any pig for the dumb masses. Note: I am NOT against EVs, but am against this whole ‘gee whiz’ shiny objects for people with more money than brains. Case and point, this product.
I see a lot of EQS sedans and SUVs on the road here in SoCal. Interestingly enough, I've yet to see one with a "Hyperscreen", which honestly doesn't surprise me at all.
I love the audio tests! THANK YOU SAVAGE GEESE!
You can use the MBUX voice system to adjust the parameters (massage seat...), so you do not have to navigate through menus while driving.
They are hipsters reviewing from and for that angle
Imagine the things that can break down with all the electronics and cost to repair that down the road, keep it simple appears to have been lost somewhere along the design journey. Appreciate the honest review as always.
Holy smokes, these colours are great. I thought I had seen HDR content before, but this is on a whole new level. Great video!
A screen to see my maps, a great audio system, ice cold A/C, and good supportive seats. That’s all i need. The rest of the effort can go to safety and driving dynamics.
Three tons! If we were really serious about the environment and efficiency, then reducing weight of vehicles is a good place to start.
Batteries are incredibly heavy.
I wish there was statistics to show this is what is needed. Yes touch screen is popular but are they chasing the trend?
Honest review! Comment for that algorithm!
9:00 same problem with my 2023 Lexus NX350H. Break modulation is horrible.. My other Toyota/Lexus hybrids had no probs, but NX-h brakes has issues!
Man this HDR video is super bright
HDR looks fantastic in this video! Nice work!
I love this channel. I know exactly which vehicles I'd never own.
Wonderfully shot and scripted thank you for the content SG!
I really appreciate the HDR. It looks so much better than the traditional videos.
man if u guys could get a lucid id love to see it! keep it up!
I’d rather have the gv70 electric for half the price and I’d be happier.
I'd be depressed knowing I blew $130k on that half-baked turd.
have fun with it catching on fire
@@TheSnoopy1750id be more depressed driving around in a hyundai
These reviews are genuinely good entertainment
Only Savagegeese is capable of seducing me enough to watch a video about this premium automobile.
The more I look this type of cars the more I appreciate the Japanese cars... Im a Toyota/Lexus & Honda/Acura type of person
Agreed.
@Nomen Clature Really? Acura looks more agressive and sporty than this things
"I wanna be a smartphone with wheels"
@Nomen Clature You can say that about cars, and trucks. They're all the same shape. The difference is some are more reliable than others. I'd easily trust a Honda/Acura over a Kia/Genesis/Hyundai any day.
@@wonderboy1998lmao what? the previous gen mdx looks like a blob
Perfect review...very objective and honest gives the viewers the decision making if this car is best suited for them or not.
Isolated. Numb. Sounds like it's made for depressed people
@@zo.v1601 for a reason…
@@zo.v1601maybe just normal people who want a comfortable car? whats wrong with that? who the hell likes getting beat up on their commute daily?
I appreciate the 4K HDR option btw.
It seems to be an important datapoint for individuals interested in traveling those short road trips like 2-4 hours out and back (charging once at your destination), like a local ski / weekend trip out of town.
at keast ix looks nicer inside and sounds nicer lol
Every MB vehicle used to have exposed door handles that could be gripped and hooked for easier opening, especially after a crash. Maybe the door handles on this car are programmed to pop out when an airbag deploys, but this is certainly not a "safety first" design.
Love when you upload in HDR!!
They 100% do not care if it works in 15 years
@@khailils446they do not care if it works in 5 years….
All the OEs I believe design to a 10 year life in many cases
10 years after they stop production is when they are no longer required to have parts support IIRC. All these tech heavy cars will be a nightmare in the future. TBH all the early EVs are probably going to be very disposable anyways. Who will want to put a replacement pack in one when it wears out.
Thats what Mercedes has always done, the early 2000s CL had active Body control and screens, its always a Technology showcase
I'm going to buy two of these. For the resale value.
Thank you for not parroting MB and acting like the dashboard is a single screen.
The wall of screen at 13:55 is wow.
Bravo, Mercedes, for raising the bar yet again!
Hell, I'd buy an excellent Rav4 before that Merc POS. Poor Geese, having to review such things. Ah well, guess they can't all be Vettes, BMWs and Porsches 🤨...A Man has to put food on his table.
The moment a breakthrough in battery technology occurs all these BEVs will be obsolete much like PCs in the 90s with the big YoY improvements.
Sad.
Well the truth is these cars will see the crash coming far sooner than the human would. Aeb isn't being mandated because it's ineffective.
Love to see the HDR option back!
Did he just say $2,500.00 per month on a lease?
Plus tip ❤
That's only if you get the white paint. But seriously...
I'm editing what I wrote explaining that one could find themselves with $2,500, but per a site after I wrote a snarky-but-factual answer, apparently most leases right now for "well qualified buyers" is half that or $1,250 range.
This said, I'm not sure how Mercedes won't be eating its lunch at that low (yes, low) a rate for residual in three years considering like most German cars it will depreciate nearly half in that time.
man 125k is absolutely bonkers
Seeing the number of fingerprint marks all over these giant screens would absolutely drive me insane every day.
I think the more basic 12.3 screen available on lower spec trim levels to be vastly superior to the Hyperscreen. While Mercedes is doing some amazing work with efficiency and with actually maintaining a high charging rate (when you can find a charger that can deliver), they price themselves beyond the competition.
I do like my ev suvs showing a bit of foam 🔥
That is a $500 option.
On any given day, you encounter stupid and distracted drivers. We've all seen them and have avoided (I hope) accidents screaming at them to get their heads out of their butt when they drive.
So, Mercedes builds a car whose dashboard is a video game. What could possibly go wrong?
More or a reason to save the manuals. Gives you a purpose and reason to be attentive on the road.
What's luxurious about it?
It looks like a very nice Acura. That’s the nicest thing I can say.
how long till we get an EV that isn't a sensory deprivation chamber?

I hope you will have a chance to look at one of the italian options competing against the germans today
What are those enormous star-shaped fasteners used on the front LCA/ball joint?
It's crazy to see that the manufacturer actually promotes the new Ux as "less distractive"
Wiring and ton of electronic chip will be the bane of this vehicle.
Here to watch Mark shit on this pile 🤣
The biggest leap forward in innovation isn’t more electronics, it’s precision manufacturing.
When will the manufacturers figure out that luxury is found in manufacturing products that feel hand built and timeless, not in adding more electronics. Nothing feels more temporary than a two year old computer.
but what are James Cameron's thoughts on it?
