  • Nothing had prepared me for the shock of my life. The UNESCO ancient Imperial Roman city of Sagalassos, perched majestically on a mountaintop in the Burdur Province of Turkey, is the most beautiful ancient Roman city I've ever seen in Turkey. The stunning architecture and intricate designs on the columns, around the buildings, and among the ruins are breathtaking and extraordinary. During the Roman imperial time, Sagalassos was a wealthy and important metropolis in ancient Pisidia and favored by the imperial Roman Emperors, especially Emperor Hadrian, who called it "The Imperial City of the Cult." Sagalassos was renowned for producing high-quality pottery and agricultural products in its heyday. A large temple was built and dedicated to the Roman Emperors, Hadrian, and Antoninus Pius amid the ancient ruins. Emperor Hadrian built Sagalassos' amphitheater during his reign. Surprisingly, in the ruins of the Roman bath complex, archaeologists discovered colossal heads and leg fragments of Emperor Hadrian, Emperor Marcus Aurelius, and Antoninus Pius's wife, Empress Faustina, now housed in the Archaeological Museum of Burdur, Turkey. Hadrian's fountain is the oldest nymphaeum in Sagalassos. Still, my favorite fountain is the beautiful and best-preserved Antonine Nymphaeum and the main focal point of Sagalassos today as you enter the main center of the town. The intricate designs and colored marble columns around the architecture and the statues standing along the edges of the fountain and water still running since antiquity, hailing Sagalassos, the most beautiful ancient Roman city in Turkey. Join me to explore Sagalassos, the most beautiful Roman city of antiquity.

Absolutely astonishing. What a beautiful place, with so much history and with remains in such incredible condition. I could spend days wandering around there.

I wish that I could go back and visit the people who built the city . Hang out . Drink a beer and enjoy a meal with them . Maybe a rock concert.

I'm not sure why the creator of this excellent video chose to play loud "heroic" music to accompany it. The natural sounds of the site would frame the material better.

I don't know why archeologist never find anything in Turkey about Romans like they found in Egypt.. Roman civilization lives here so there may be gold and Egypt like things hidden tombs etc

Sorry, that's definitely Sagalassos. I was there in 2005. 13:56. That's the original fountain house, with the original spring still running despite earthquakes. The water is cold and perfectly safe to drink.
