Actually, on Chrysler radios you get a second bank of presets if you push each button a second time. Same thing with the button to set the presets -- push it twice and you'll see SET 2 on the display, indicating that you're programming the second bank of presets. GM did a similar thing with their Delco radios -- pushing two adjacent preset buttons simultaneously will give you another preset.
I know you!
I expect vwestlife on no other video than a review of a pt cruiser

I love how someone sent Doug their car and he just takes the piss out of it.
I always chuckle at that 😂
Not the cars fault they're bad. The manufacturers are the ones to blame. Also, life isn't going to be exactly perfect. there are going to be cars out there that we hate but we don't need to waste life complaining and screaming at cards and inanimate objects that don't really mean any harm they're not out to get us. Unless we make them get the worst out of us. Think on the bright side, they come in so many cool colors that other cars don't necessarily come in. As well that they have two different types of engines. If you look at the front of a PT cruiser look at the headlights they look like eyes and look at the bumper in the front it looks like a smile. It's cute, it's a cute little car. Meant to be loved, even though people don't really like them. Just give them a chance, you don't have to like them but at least just be more appreciative.
i cant think of one redeeming feature of the pt cruiser, its build quality was crap, its styling was renouned for being gut wrenchingly disgusting and its powertrain was mediocre at best, and its driven by senile pensioners

You missed a quirk: the back seats were completely removable (even had a "carry handle" on the back) so it turned into a tiny van.
Which was a GREAT feature in the vehicle. I carried 200 lbs of mulch for my mom in one with the seats out.
And once removed the rear shelf in the upright position had a use as a floor divider in the completely flat cargo area. I'm a little puzzled all that got left out since these are quirks very few cars, if any, have.
@@leskirkpatrick621 I really can't remember what they were for! Maybe there was a strap on the rear seats when they folded and flipped up?

It might be awful in terms of styling, but other than that, it's rather good car. The JTD engines are bullet proof, had 6 seats, was comfortable, was cheaply made but WAS cheap to buy, so honestly it's not so bad. It's only ridiculed because of how laughably weird the styling is

Same here. Srt4 engine. 5 speed. Might be interested
2003 GT with the 5-speed was awesome. We've had two more - 2008 Ltd with turbo and a NA 2010 Classic. It's not that we're just cruiser fanatics but three times running, we just couldn't find anything we liked as well for anywhere near the price. But the GT was something else; I don't know what product manager was responsible for that but they deserved a raise. I've read that for '03 they dipped into the M-B supply chain for the front seats but also, getting that Getrag 5-speed was a coup. I was ex-Saab 9000 and Audi 90 and the PT Cruiser GT was at least level with them both. I knew from the moment I rolled across the dealership parking lot in the GT that the car *had it* and I thoroughly enjoyed driving it.

Doug, My wife and I had 2 of these things. I HATED them, she LOVED them! Some people really love them for their low cost and retro look. For example, we went out to a eat one time and when we pulled in to park, a group of people told us "you were supposed ot park over on the other side of the parking lot. It turned-out we had blundered into the local PT Cruiser owner club meet-up! Mostly this was a bunch of retirement age people who met up to show off their cars and the modificaitons they had made ot them.
As for my opinion of the cars, the first one we had was an absolute death trap in any kind of wet or icy weather. The reaosn being is we were poor,so had gotten the very base model. This meant it came with low profile, wannabe race-car tires that had horrible traction on any road that wasn't bone dry and it didn't have anti-lock brakes, so we were constantly sliding into our stops and turns in the winter months. On top of that, it was REALLY hard for a fat guy like me to get in and out of the vehicle. After getting rid of that car, I got my wife an SUV (which she hated because it "wasn't sporty.") I researched for a while and thought ?I had found the perfect answer: I would get her a convertible PT cruiser with anti-lock brakes. This would have wider doors (so I could enter/exit easier) and solve the sliding issue in wet weather. That worked out fine, until deep winter arrived. At this point, I realized my mistake: The convertible version has door windows that extend above the bottom of the roof. So to open them, they quickly slide down about an inch when you press that door handle button to clear the top of the roof and let you open them. When there is snow or ice, they get frozen in place and you can't enter the vehicle!!! My stopgap solution was to purchase an aftermarket remote car starter and make sur we left the heater/defroster on when exiting.
I feel like the cruiser is so split. Like half of the people hate it cause they think it's ugly, unreliable, too small and uncool. But then the others love it cause they think it's beautiful reliable and cheap. Its like they talk about two different cars

F this guy
I rented and drove a PT Cruiser in Dallas Texas when visiting relatives 7 years ago. It was a fun car to drive back then. The look of the PT Cruiser reminded me of my dad’s 1937 Hudson Terraplane, which was also a great car to drive.
I actually had a PT GT for a while when I was in college. The window switches are something you get used to. It's nothing worse than my Mercedes that mounted them in the middle for years. The beeping when you put it in reverse was for the Getrag transmission 5speed because it was a dogleg so they were concerned people in the US might not be used to that and accidentally shift into reverse at a light. The little hooks on the b-pillar was for a cargo net that I believe was optional. So when you folded the rear seats flat to get a lot of storage you had a little cargo stop so it wouldn't move up if you stopped really fast. The door buttons do in fact freeze up in the winter. It was comical and usually not too bad. I used the plastic seat back many times between classes to study and have a quick bite. The rear wing was absolutely silly. As a college student the back table was great for tailgate.
The greatest thing was after you put a blow off valve you could pull a vacuum line off the wastegate and then run a ton of boost. It made for a very fun driving experience although the handling was a nightmare at high speeds. It was still tons of fun to blow by all sorts of people that thought they had a fast car. People like stock mustangs, camaros, and even some of the older vettes.
The worst thing was coming up to a light and being tall. With the windshield angle and height you couldn't see the light.
Ugly but fun car over all.
Well said and I had a red one myself (an automatic). I didnt think much and did hate the PT until I saw the ad said 'turbo', then personally fell in love with it after driving it for a while. I wish I still had it but I gave it away after the engine blew.

"THISSS is my new Chrysler PT Cruiser"
He already did that... and then absolutely demolished it.
😂
He already had one.
snakexpert552 he wouldn’t buy one since he just got the g wagen
😂
i learned to drive on a pt cruiser and it’s still the best driving car i ever drove 😂
Maybe I'm strange, but I love window switches in the center.
Same too
@@EsaShaheed I subbed u got some good beats
Who cares where they are if they work?
@@d.r.5287 My wife's old 05 c320 had then on the driver door, but they were down below the knee and toward the front, awful placement.
@@alwwqe thank u so much!
Chrysler spent about 80% of their design budget for this car in designing the cargo area cover.
That thing is pretty amazing
I genuinely hope this isn’t true and out of fear refuse to fact check
well this was way better than the designers absurdly bad fail that had nothing but problems one just couldn't fix with the HHR. Run away from those. I see um and I don't get um.
Doug, you forgot to mention that, to replace the headlight bulb, you'll need to remove the front wheel first.
Nothing special, even in a Mazda mx5
No you don't... You just put on the emergency brake and put it in reverse... Gives ya enough room to get your hand in there.
And the rears aswell🤣🤣
Mazda 6 same deal.
The Suzuki Kizashi is even worse, you need to remove the whole bumper AND the headlight with its attachements
What about under the hood? Did you mention the engine placement? Is it front wheel drive or rear axel? What type of suspension? Type of brakes? Braking distance? Blind spots? Easy access to change fluids? Type of window package; power or hand crank? Upolstery options? I like the pull down desk, especially if the steering is mounted on the right side for postal carriers is having that left side pull down table to place a mail bag and close proximity to the control stack to open and close the window per mail box drive up, near mail bag.
Chrysler had black and gray keys at this time. The black key was a plain key, the gray color denotes a transponder key for the Sentry Key Immobilization System (SKIS). Why they color coded it, I don't know since the SKIS keys have a thicker body and it was pretty easy to tell them apart based on that alone.
"I also crushed one with a hummer" lol
Marc Trevino yes you can still find it
Please be careful with my exclusive car.
Doug: Kicks the window buttons with his dirty boots
No class 💁
14:15 It's NOT a desk, Doug - it's a scuff plate for when you're carrying long items like 2x4s...
The hooks on the inside are for the rear seats, The gt also has bigger brakes in the front and the gt seats are full leather
The Rolls Royce Cullinan doesn’t even have a cargo tray that becomes a table. The PT Cruiser was ahead of its time.
love these videos because it’s 20 minutes of doug roasting the car LMAO
Only American cars.
Thank you for this review! I used to be in love with this car! So sad that Chrysler cheaped out on this vehicle. I'm still in love with it although friends thought it looked like a hearse😋
My next door neighbor owned a manual transmission PT Cruiser. She used it to haul antique, heavy furniture on the roof and in the back. She drove it several times from Louisville to central Michigan as well as the east Florida coast. She never had a bit of trouble with it. How did it die? It was parked in front of her house and a car driving by lost control, sideswiped the Cruiser, and destroyed a front wheel. Result was that it repair exceeded value of the car. So sad! It had survived well over 100 K miles.
I would love to see Doug review any of the following cars.
1. 90’s Chevy Camaro SS
2. 90’s Nissan 240SX Coupe/Convertible
3. 90’s Nissan 300ZX
4. 90’s Mercury Capri
5. 90’s Eagle Talon Turbo
I'm all about # 5 In high school my teacher would let me leave school with her Talon to detail it.It was real fast car in its day. I dont think teachers would get away with shit like that today?! Have a good day..

@@__The_Real_V__ Utilitarian at it's best.
aztec has a tent option so you could camp out the back of it. tell me thats not the coolest shit ever also it had a built in cooler for da beers.
WW wuz here
Why is this chat fighting over a pos aztec and a pos pt cruiser? They both equally are niche terrible cars. But yes they are cool because they are unique.
Irony is Heisenberg Jr have PT cruiser and Walter White owns Pontiac Aztek😂
I'm in the camp of people that love their Cruiser. My dad handed down his 2008 to me when I got my license and I absolutely love driving her. She's a great size for what I need, she's fast, she's incredibly reliable after 13 years, and my fiance even said he loves driving her (when he can actually get me to hand over the keys). Literally the only complaint I have about her is her turning radius... Leaves a bit to be desired.
I rented one for a long road trip and actually loved it. I'm 6'4" and I was very comfortable in it. The door was large and it was easy to get in and out of. The front window was large as well and had great visibility all around. It was very nimble and did not lack for power. Being a small car, I was able to park it any where easily. I still remember that trip with great fondness.
"I also crushed one with a hummer, so I am kind of into the whole PT Cruiser scene!"
Psyflier he needs to do a ford probe
I lost it hahahaha
“This car has only had a few minor modifications”. Neglects to show us the Nitrous tank.
That's doug

Where?
Where you see the Nitrous tank
I like the simplistic open design it is a minivan and a sedan put together I also like the window switches in the middle because I've had window switches fail in my doors from opening them when it's raining or forgetting and leaving a window down
Hi Doug, this is hilarious - thanks :) I'm one of the weirdos who really loves this car. We in Australia don't get the same choices that you do in the US, so it's the only car over the past 20 years or so that I've loved the look of, that isn't actually really vintage. (Of the ones that I could possibly afford.) Regarding the air conditioning: I like to drive in an icebox. It gets hot here sometimes, as you can imagine, and I hate the heat. So, apart from the strange little direction knobs, is the air conditioning nice and cold? Or does it fail there as well? Thanks, Leigh
When I was a kid my friends brother had a PT and I remember sitting in the back wondering why the damn window switches were on the floor and since I started watching Doug, I have been wondering if he would ever review this car and point out this quirk! Today is a good day
