The Mercedes-Benz Metris is a minivan -- just like the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna. But the Metris is a truly terrible minivan. Today I'm reviewing the Mercedes Metris Passenger to show you why the Metris is so bad.

DOUGSCORE CHART: docs.google.co...
Angry Mercedes fans: "You're wrong! This is a commercial shuttle van! You misunderstood it!"
Well, sweetie, it's nice that Mercedes-Benz marketing has convinced you of this -- but it's the same size as a Sienna/Odyssey, with the same price as a Sienna/Odyssey, and the same scope as a Sienna/Odyssey.
If I were buying a "commercial shuttle van," I'd literally fall over laughing at the Metris ... annnnnd then I'd buy a Sienna/Odyssey. Which is what everyone does anyway.
You tell em, papa.

this guy got it right
Lol imagine renting out your van to someone hoping that they would use it and enjoy it and then 2 weeks later see a video of a guy trash talking your minivan

I feel that bro
As a German I have to admit that you are right. I don't even know why Toyota or Honda didn't try to sell those big Vans here (there's a huge difference in Germany when you say Mini-Van or Van btw the Mercedes is like the Volkswagen Mulivan and the Ford Transit a so called mini-bus here ^^).
I think they were to lazy to sell them with standard transmissions and diesels or 4 Cylinder gasoline engines :D
Sure. “My” minivan.
@Cyrian Genesis Driving a towtruck, i have witnessed many fallen Vitos, stranded on the road for variety of reasons. One thing i can not fathom, is that most of them have very bad rust problems starting as early as 3 years old.
One thing Mercedes didn't realise when designing this van was that Doug will get to review this one day,
And also that he will get it thru the Mighty Dougscore where you must go from 0 to 60 under 3 sec to get some points.
Junky DIY guy Congratulations. You have the first ever comment Doug put a heart on.
Junky DIY guy think this is for transporting retards
jajesam sigurno He admits the dougscore is biased towards supercars. But you'd think the Metris would at least score 90 percent in the daily categories considering its a minivan
But it doesn't, becasue it's a bad minivan. Every other minivan does it better.

And Doug is so stupid not even understanding that those are totally different kind of cars. Honda is made based a passanger car and MB Metris is based a van. He forget compare size (MB about 8 inch higher) comfort of seats etc so looking only negative sides which are partly funny which he is thinking important.
Yes, Odyssey seats can be adjust better but I just ask, do you think 3 person can really travel comfortably at Odussey middle seats for example 200 miles... No way, in MB yes. Compare the third row seats. Odyssey seats are not for adults, only for kids. In MB 8 adult can travel comfortably and there is even space for the luggages. Doug didn't notice that there is rails and seats can be move using those
By the way, he complained about the filling cap place but tell me when you park your car so near the filling station pump that you can not open the door :-D That solution the cap is closed and locked always when driver door is closed
That one, Metris, is made in USA. Perhaps the reason for bad quality ;-) I have 2 friends here in Europe having MB V-class which seems to be totally different car although basis is the same. Is touch screen, pad for hand writing reconission. power sliding doors, power tail gate, LED lights, cruise control keeping the distance and all radars, better rear camera, 360 degree cameras, good fuel economy, acceleration is good etc... And Telephone is written correctly, perhaps there are some Mexican working at MB USA factory ;-) and no rattling of seats or any extra noise (US manufacturing quality comparing to European... ;-) )

Why do you think it's called Mercedes-Bins
Most of what you speak about is true. I purchased a used 2019 Metris and dumped it 2 years later because of many of the things you point out. Those and other problems you didn't mention. The first is related to cruise control. I spent $1,050.00 at my Benz dealership to install what I later learned was an aftermarket system. I worked well when activated, but because it was located directly under the turn signal, I learned quickly it could be a death trap. It wasn't unusual to hit the lever when I wanted to hit the turn signal. My second big complaint is the van is promoted as being able to tow up to 5,000 lbs. That might be the case, but the back end is so low to the ground that after installing the lone tow bar available for the vehicle there's only 7-3/4" inches separating the bottom of the bar from the ground. Once installed it's not uncommon for the bar to scrape the ground when coming off a slope or speed bump. I'm sure one can guess what happens when tongue weight is added to the hitch. My third big complaint is the cost of fuel to operate the vehicle. It requires very expensive 91 or 93 octaine gas. And the best part is the maintenance expenses. Just guess how thrilled I was when I learned the van needed what amounted to a 9 quart oil change that cost over $300.00? In summary, about the only thing I miss about the Metris is it was probably the last REAL mid-sized van I'll ever see. The other van's you mention - the Honda Odyssey in particular - aren't true (box) vans. Because of their height they're more like comfortable and stylish station wagons, but I won't argue they're a better value than the Metris. Damn GM made a big mistake when they discontinued the Astrovan. That will always be my favorite.
My 2005 Astro Van is no frills. The Metris is the closest thing to a Astro but not worth the price. Hard to believe cruise isn't standard. No safety bells and whistles blind spot etc. Next stop to look at the Transit.
@@edwardnemec7611 Transit Connect or the actual Transit vans that replaced the Econoline?
Astro😂😂😂
Junk too
@@carltonthepug I had 3 Astro's and loved them all. Other than front end issues with the 1st generation vehicle the biggest expense I ever had for my last (3rd gen.) was replacing the fuel pump. That happened just over 100,000 miles so you won't hear me gripe about that. I still miss that van.
@@edwardnemec7611 My last Astro was the 2005 model. Damn good vehicle in my opinion. I still see them cruising the streets around town. I hope you get many more years of use out of yours.

Go, C-Milk.... but you have to understand that the price in germany for that thing is A LOT cheeper and it is used to transport (for example) retarded people from A to B. You also would remove the 3rd seat in the middle row, so the "jail" doesnt exist and ANYONE can exit to both sides this way without someone beeing forced to go in.
Why do you buy it'? Because it will not break down, it's cheeper here in Germany and you got service everywhere (unlike the other options). Cars like the Mercedes Sprinter are also seen everywhere... because those are the cars that companys buy... because they're reliable.
Nice to see you here C-Milk! ^^

@@Nebulasecura of course a good salesman would take soomeone out of a commercial van when you look for a van for the family ...
@@EnjoyFirefighting difference is that marketing a commercial van as a minivan here in the states is a stupid idea, like Doug said in the video
@@Nebulasecura Mercedes markets the Metris as "elevate your brand to your clients, a Metris mid-size multi-purpose van " sounds like 100% commercial, non private. Of course this commercial version is available both as cargo van and passenger van, that's why it might be classified as mini van. But that passenger version is still meant for commercial use, like parking services at airports, getting construction workers on site or crews around in a port area. No need for comfort or luxury right there. Doug simply never understood the concept of the Metris, and neither the difference to the V-Class, which is the same van for private, non-commercial use
At my former workplace in France they used this when they had had to shuttle people or carry oversized stuff. I had the chance to borrow the thing once to haul my furniture from IKEA. Two observations: you did have to take all seats off which was quite a chore, but once you did that you had a HUGE cargo area. Horrible as this thing was... something did impress me: when I got up to highway speed I could not believe the speedo because it felt like I was doing 60 km/h when in fact I was at 120km/h. The ride was so silent and smooth it felt like I was driving very slow and that was with a full load! And it still had lots of juice to cause trouble with the "highway patrol." I really had to keep watching my speed to avoid creeping up without realizing it.

syed maisum I read this like some dirty foreplay
Hunter K "Daddy I love when you talk trash about my car" Syed says while moaning.
Me too, it really gets me in full gear. (Bite's lip so hard blood drips down thy chin)
But not if he trashes good cars. (Like this or the Trabant)
This is basically the physical embodiment of Mercedes greed, pay more for much less, and a plastic badge
I’m waiting for the AMG version of this.
hahahah cute
IlluminAadhi S I actually laughed at that
It's already turbocharged...best AMG can do is slap on a body kit and big wheels.
Imagine racing one of those on the dragstrip
Black edition
Maybe it was meant to be a prison bus
You may be on to something, that would explain the poor usability. That's why it has no power seats/ doors, or openable windows, because they want to make it as hard as possible for the prisoners to escape.
AUS...too soon?
LMAO there is a prison called Metris in Turkey
Well I bet anyone who but was dumb enough to buy this probably feels like they're in a prison bus by now LOL
lolol
Maybe Mercedes accidentally added an extra "0" to the price tag?
Lol
They added 2.
Holy shit!
My wife and I bought a used 2018 Honda Odyssey Touring edition with 40,000 kms on it for $41,000 Canadian monopoly money and I'm at 8:12 in this video seriously scratching my head.
What in the F... was Mercedes thinking?
Obviously they weren't at all.
Honda Odyssey Touring (even the base model has alot of these features): flip down 3rd seat row, sliding middle row with removable middle seat which we did. Power both sliding doors, tailgate with adjustment for opening height. Cup holders, 12v and even 110v plugs all over. Roll down windows and sunshades for 2nd row, shunshades for 3rd. Back attachments for child seats IN ALL 4 seats behind drivers and passengers.
Ohhh, but it gets worse for Mercedes moving to a loaded Odyssey. Cabin watch, Cabin talk, sweep foot tail gate opening/closing, entertainment system, HDMI port for game console, wireless headphones, 2 drivers seat seatings fully controlled by key phobe including adjusting the drivers mirrors. Heated and cooled leather seats, dual climate control (actual 3 climate controls), lane assist, parking assist, adaptive cruise control, heated steering wheel, snow and eco modes, adaptive braking.
Ohh no, not done yet...
Vacuum in the back, tire sensor monitors, folding side mirrors, heated mirrors, heated side passenger rear window, rain sensors for wipers, automatic locks when exiting vehicle, sunroof/moon roof, power seats and arm rests in the front, purse holder, bluray disc holder, usb ports galore, snow function for traction and ABS. Honda link, wireless cell phone charging... did mention all powered sliding doors and rear tailgate?
How about the cargo room in the back after 3rd row?
LED lights, touchscreen controls, 2 separate zones for sound so you don't have to listen to kids movies. Power control mirrors.
There are mini vans, and then there's the Honda Odyssey.
Ohh yeah, the Honda Odyssey has shift paddles if you are so inclined to put it in sport mode... but folks, it's a vehicle for trasporting a family around in comfort with family features that matter. However, if you get that urge going to the grocery store, they too are there along with a 10 speed transmission.
Most appropriate that when RUclips AI generates closed captions for this it's called the Mercedes Mattress.
Fun fact: In Germany, this car is called "V-Class" (if it's the passenger version) or "Vito" (cargo version) - I've never heard the name "Metris" before. Also, this thing is actually becoming quite popular here in Germany - it's still no match for the market dominating Volkswagen T6, but you do see it on the road quite often. I actually think the high-end V-Class looks pretty good, not quite as boring as the comparable Volkswagen Bus, Peugeot Traveller/Opel Vivaro/Citroën SpaceTourer, Hyundai H1, Ford Transit and what not - a lot of cars you don't get in the States, I suppose. In return, we don't get the Siennas, Odysseys, Quests, Sedonas, Town and Countries, Pacificas and what ever else you might be driving over there.
The Stig's German Cousin Ich hab da mal nen Praktikum gemacht und die sind ganz anders und besser ausgestattet als der hier
weird seeing you outside of CarThrottle
Omg you are from CT!
The V-Class has a higher comfort and quality level than the Metris. The Metris is a Vito. I'm running a chauffeurservice here in Germany, and we would never use a Vito (Metris). We call it "Truppentransporter" (Troup Transporter). These are more designed for carrying construction workers. The bigger alternative to a S-Class is the V-Class, looks much more fancy and has high qualtiy nappa leather single seats and woodin the cockpit. It pretty well requested, even by private jet owners...
The Stig's German Cousin The metris is a rebranded Vito. You can get the "passenger" version of the Vito here in Germany too, but most people rather choose the upper class "V-Klasse" model which from what I've heard has to be really good. However the V-Klasse doesn't seem to be sold in North America so they're missing out once again I guess...
The fact this cost MORE than an entry Sprinter is mind boggling
Well no shit the sprinter is a cargo van
@@goated9700 this one is too but someone at Mercedes thought it would be a good idea to bolt some seats inside and sell it as a Minivan
Hans: *Hits blunt* We will make a van for cargo and put seats on it and ask 40k
@@goated9700 you youd be better off buying a sprinter and getting some bench seats than this mess of a vehicle
Well the cargo version of this is cheaper than a sprinter
Lol I have the cargo version for work and I found this hilarious. I have a 2021 so the screen is upgraded to a nice touchscreen with Apple car play. But yes it’s noisy and has a lot of those weird quarks still. But overall I love it for what I use it for.
Honda is for the people, mercedes is for retired people and rich people, the metris.... its quite frankly for no one
SutaCar 12 Mercedes is not for retired people anymore... they have something for everyone including youth
GLR People, this is the example of a retiree in denial
@@suta-car1285 kinda wish my grandad could get a A45 AMG S
In fact it's made for carrying business people from A to B at 120mph on the Autobahn..
As a European and a Mercedes fan even I can tell you, this van is quite a shit show. What the hell were they thinking???
Molly Nap Queen You’re hot
have you seen this in europe?i have never seen this.I have only seen v-class which has amazing leather and aluminium interior.and it is a mini van.this rubbish is probably for the american market.
💰
It's not on the European market. Can't order it on the German Mercedes page.
It's named "Vito Tourer" on the German Mercedes commercial vehicles page.
“Worst minivan” seems to be an understatement!
Wow even my mom's 2007 Chrysler Town and Country mini van that is $5,000 is better than this $43,300 mini van.
I can think of a couple that were worse but they were made 30 years ago.
I love how annoyed Doug is that this car even exists.
Countach has better rear visibility than metris
Chris809//CarHunters countach anniversary edition which has many spoilers and air ducts xD
And the Countach is easier to get into than the back seats of the Metris
Some German worker will be punished for this review.😅
Having said that, this van would be perfect for U.S. prisoner transport.☺
Man O War ikr lmao
It was never made by Germans....
We have laws against cruel and unusual punishment.
This will be the Minivan that a school buys and all the kids will be like hell yeah we got a Mercedes and then they'll get in and be like, "NOOOOO."
Found the German.
Well, the Metris or Vito (in Europe) is a transporter you use to bring workers to the construction site (overpriced, yes). The minivan version (at least in Europe) is the V-Class. It has the interieur of the C-Class (more or less) and is very well-equipped...and easily costs 80k or more...
interspherian So what you're saying is, the vehicles cost well over double of what they should cost.
interspherian at 80 grand it should have the interior of the E class.
Why is it overpriced? Gmc savana - 33515$, metris - 29995$.
_THIS_ is the first Doug DeMuro video i've seen that doesn't start with " _THIS_ "
THIS VIDEO DOESNT START WITH THE WORD “THIS”. I DEMAND A REFUND THIS IS NOT WHAT I SIGNED UP FOR WHEN I SUBSCRIBED
We've been lied to by the one we trusted
Car doesn't deserve to start with "this", hell neither does this comment.
Zach Brown Oh my gosh, yes! I noticed that too! And the way he says it is so satisfying “uhhh...THIS! is the 2016 such and such....”
@@Vin80_ that is true, this vehicle is a mockery of our capacity to think
Metris does not deserve to be called "this" i think "$40,000 piece of shit" fits it better.
Roast of the century. Doug is an artist
"Honda Odyssey Touring, Honda Odyssey Touring, Honda Odyssey Touring, Honda Odyssey Touring, Honda Odyssey Touring, Honda Odyssey Touring, Honda Odyssey Touring," - Doug D
"Odyssey Touring" - Doug
This Honda Odyssey Touring commercial is pretty good
Thanks Doug for the Honda Odyssey Touring commercial
I'm European and I definitely don't have a problem with this video. In Europe it isn't a minivan though it's a taxi. The quality doesn't matter because its all just designed to be vomited on by late night revellers. And the price isn't a problem because the owner will be charging £60 to take you 5 miles from town back to your home at 3:00 AM
furby brera but you could get a better vehicle for a lot less.
vomiting in a better vehicles is highly forbidden. pick this mercedes for your vomiting purposes.
But in Europe it is so mutch better! Its not at all this cheep, just Google Mercedes V-class and see.
johnny cake you could but in europe everyone sucks german car manufacturers dicks, so when someone sees a mercedes v class taxi or the similarly priced honda odyssey they still think the v class is better and more expensive and would get into it
koks
Same in America.
Yes, but it's not a minivan. It's a van. Designed for commercial use.
I don't think we should compare it to minivans that are designed for family use.
I can explain you why this Mercedes is so bad. In Russia or Europe this van is named Vito. This is simple van like Ford Ecoline. For workers and working stuff. You can take off seats and for example carry something. You can buy it with rubber floor, so you can clean it with water. I dont know why MB give this utility van a personal name and called it minivan. The only way they did it, i think it,s a price under 50 grand. The have Mercedes V-class, which is luxury model on same platform, with V6, 4matic, another iterior with Command Online, LED headlights and all cool stuff that Mercedes cars can have. But V-class is very expensive, USA minivan market cant handle minivan with 80k$ price.
Only true minivan that Mercedes was produced was R class and it was very cool vehicle!
RealMacarenko I agree, Same thing here in South Africa we have the new V Series which is class and the ‘Vito’ which is more practical and extremely reliable
RealMacarenko if im paying more that 50k I expect a V8 in any car not a V6 or 4.
Yes, you are right. It's like the VW Transporter, not supposed to be fancy or feature packed. Just horrible advertising over there in the US.
But it is. It's possible that there are things that are a little bit different, but in it's base, it's the same car. www.dockx.be/made/assets/uploads/images/mercedes-vito-tourer-huren_800_465_80.jpg
you can go to mecedes.com to configurator and see that Vito have same shitty seats, same dash, same mediapalyer, same headlights and ect. Of cource Merc will told everybody in USA that it is special model for US market, but this is simple Vito. Also you can see in same configurator how better V-class is.
Europe merket didnt have cars like Sienna, Odyssey, Town&Country, Venza. There are not many of this in Russia, only grey dealers bring it here. I ride some kilometers in Sienna, and yes, this is a great car. But Mercedes R class was better.
Man, that's one expensive badge on the front. It's a 20,000$ option, right? Right?
Brett Giesler 38,000$.
Brett Giesler the badge is always a $20k - $40k
Doug's own quirks and features often annoy me into avoiding his videos ("Why have two buttons?" x infinity) ... but this is an epic rant and teardown of a bewildering vehicle for Mercedes to have built. To this I say, well done Doug! A more thorough reviewer on RUclips there is not.
lol, they added airline economy seats to the cargo van and called it a day
Your review was so scathing that we went to a rental place and asked about renting one of these and they were like “oh no, you dont want a Metris”
This video is funnier if I imagine Doug is a salesperson for Mercedes Benz showing me the Metris.
That is great, made me laugh just thinking about it!
Apparently Mercedes sold 7000 units by 2017. What are people thinking bro, I'm convinced this is some kind of social experiment
ironic how he says you can use turo for interesting cars but rents a boring airport rental minivan using it
Shantanu Kulkarni Exactly what I was thinking.
Shantanu Kulkarni Doug the type of guy
It's called variety.
Doug is the type of guy who advertise Turo to rent interesting cars but rent himself a boring car instead
Hey, I thought it would be a FUN airport rental minivan!
Doug the type of guy to use parental control settings on himself
Legends say Doug is still in Metris jail to this very day...
Metris prison cell sounds more inhumane than ADX Florence where El Chapo is locked up in.
Doug says over and over how this isn't Mercedes Benz quality. I disagree. This IS Benz quality. Its not a Toyota.
6:36 How weird was it that the white car driving by matched up with the suv going by in the rear view mirror? Had to watch that a few times.
Yo that’s something
Holy moly
Holy frick.
:O I noticed that too!!!
MaD707MaN woooow never noticed That, What are the odds damn
