I'm in the process of building out an HTPC setup at home in my room. I just want something I can kick back and relax in front of when home.
I've been an OTR trucker the last 10 years, living in the cab of a truck on the road 95% of the year.. I've finally gotten fed up with the lifestyle and been apply for local jobs like garbage truck or towing. Something where I'll be home everyday and have regular weekends off. For the last 6+ years I've been specialized in hauling glass on flatbed and double drop trailers. Which has taken a toll on my back and joints.
I remembered the good ole days when I was younger, gaming on the couch with my buddies. That kinda inspired my idea for my new setup, just replaceing the couch with a bed, and the console with a PC.
I've got most all my furniture setup, or ordered. All I'm waiting on now is Intel 15th Gen to launch, and that RTX 5090. As for the TV I'll probably be going with the 85" Sony Bravia 9 Mini LED. I've considered OLED, but I'm certainly concerned with the possibility of burn in, especially on an HDR TV, and being hooked up to a PC.
I've seen the Bravia 9 in person next to OLEDs and it's still quite impressive. It doesn't quite have the inky blacks, but it definitely get's bright with HDR content. It certainly blows other LCD screens of the past outta the water. I figure by the time I'm ready for an upgrade perhaps Micro LED will be available and somewhat affordable. Or maybe OLED will have some new breakthroughs that eliminate or nullify the risk of burn in.

Usually I game on computer. I’ve been discovering streaming games which has allowed me to play on my laptop and even on my iPad with a bluetooth XBox controller connected. Which has allowed me to play pretty much anywhere and on any of my devices.

I tried playing Valorant on the TV, and it was incredibly relaxing for a competitive game. The combination of the comfortable couch and the large TV screen created a completely different vibe from Valorant, which is more intense and strategy-focused. I understand that, for competitive games, the best experience is often on a monitor and PC, where precision and quick response are essential. However, when it comes to fully enjoying games like Gran Turismo 7 or Spider-Man, nothing beats the immersion provided by a cozy TV and sofa,

  • @m6adam

I prefer TV and a comfy couch because I play mostly story games and I usually play for over 6 hours a day so comfort is my priority.

If the game (mainly shooters) supports mouse and keyboard on console, I choose to play that way on the desk with a monitor. It's a shame that most games (Apex, BF and so on) for some reason choose not to support this.

Definitely Team Monitor. There's just something about Ultrawides that I just love. If I had to choose one though, it would be a TV because it's bigger for all of the non gaming stuff I do.

  • @everettedl
    @everettedl 3 месяца назад

Currently deciding between the two, which is why I watched. You addressed a lot of what I was thinking about. Playing on a monitor is awesome for focus and immersion, especially with headphones. Yet it doesn't hold a candle to the comfort of kicking back on the couch. Since I like to research strategies and walkthroughs, I like having a laptop or second screen nearby to do research (tablets can also work if there isn't much typing involved). That means, only casual games or games that don't require a lot of thought are the ones that are restricted to the couch. Problem there is if I have both types of games on the same console. I could just get two consoles, but I'm trying to be more minimalist, so buying two of the same console isn't desirable either (even if it's probably unavoidable for what I want)
I think what I'm learning here is there will be compromises no matter what I do.
EDIT: I forgot to ask - do you have a dedicated office for work stuff, or do you do something else with your laptop? Where does it live when you're not using it?

I generally only play fps games like CoD or xDefiant with the occasional Injustice 2 or Mortal Kombat 11 session thrown in on my Xbox series s. However, tying up the only tv in my house with the Xbox means nobody else can watch tv. So I made the sacrifice to switch to a monitor setup for my Xbox to allow the tv to be available and I will say the experience feels night and day for me. I feel more zeroed in on my targets in fps games and my wife doesn’t complain about the bloody fatalities on a big screen monitor grossing her out when she walks in while I’m playing mortal kombat.

I've a LG C2 in the living room and LG ‎32GS95UE for my desk set up. PS5 and Series X on the C2 and my new gaming pc on the monitor. I'm contemplating moving everything to the desk. I love my C2, its my TV introduction to the Oled but right now my living room is always a mess because of my toddler, every time I want to relax, I have to spend at least 20 minutes first picking up toys, otherwise it is just pure distraction in front of the TV

I recently switched from a Tv setup just because i started to work from home and that way i could have everything in one place. The key is to get a good gaming monitor mounted to an arm assuming that you already have a gaming console and a laptop.

For me it depends, im not a gamer that plays shooters i just play story driven games so i don't need 120 hz but i do like 4k.
If im not too in mood for extreme 11 hours gaming i just lay in my bed playing games casually like doing sides Quest's etc and watch 4k tv,
But if its a good day chores are done and i have nothing else to do i lock in for that 11+ hour game sessions on my 1080 p tv at my desk plus its better on posture for my back most days.
