It’s heartbreaking almost to see the game we once loved in front of us in still image format. We can physically see it, remember it, but never experience that same feel playing in this great time again. We are lucky enough to say we did experience it though, something modern players will never know
When I was a kid all I did was to play flash games on websites till I found RuneScape, at that time I didn't knew how to read English, so I got stuck at tutorial island for 3 days on 2007 lol. Mined iron ore for days to buy a full black g then get scammed with a normal full black, also gave my full time which cost me 100k to a guy with full saradomin to trim my rune set XD Since I couldn't read English, I had to find guides of quest in my language so I could do them, that was fun. Nowadays quest dialogues in mmorpgs are skipped like in 99% of the time
lol i don't believe for a second that he was actually a soldier. we were mostly dumb kids on this game back then, he probably thought that it would get him free stuff or something.
This was the best time of my life. Going out with ur friends, coming home, and playing RS the whole night. This was the Time, when flax picking was a good way to money I was so proud when i was able to wear blue d hide.
Crazy how much my gameplay has changed from wayyyyyy back then when I was young (back in 06-08 or so, and now. I feel way old but I definitely remember picking flax at a time and when I thought I wanted to get 99 mining from rune ores (lol) never got past 70… f the skill. Got 99 wcing though doing magic logs for 90 percent of it. What a waste of time but the good ole days
It trully was the "cluelessness" what made this game so great back in the day. Best memory of Runescape I have to this day, was when I started playing for the first time... spent nearly whole week playing, but actually never left Lumbridge... my friend told me to make some money so the only way I knew to make money was killing goblins. He didn't tell me how much is that and how should I do it, so I picked my Bronze Sword, Bronze med helm and wooden shield and started stabbing those green fuckers to death. He told me that I have to make money for a Rune set. After like 40 hours of killing goblins (only picking up the gold drops) I had few k in my backpack and taxi'd someone to varrock. There at the west bank a guy was selling Rune set so I traded him, he put the whole set there and I offered my few k I had. He declined the trade and wrote "This isn't enough, give me more" After few minutes of me trying to explain this is all I have and it is A LOT OF MONEY, I don't know if he was a noob like me or just a really kind person and gave it to me for the money I had. For nearly 5 months I had the rune set in my bank and I was leveling my defence to 40 with the bronze sword I had AND on stab. After that when I was finally able to equip it I couldn't equip the platebody where I don't know how I didn't noticed that I needed the Dragon Slayer quest completed. So there I was with a panic attack writing on support that my account is bugged and I cannot equip Rune Platebody even though I'm level 40 defence. To this day I have their response on my email since I screenshoted it to my friend and send it to his email so he could translate what they've replied (I had only a basic knowledge when it came to english so not only was I learning the game, but the whole language too) I wonder if they would send the same response as they did to me back in the day... because they've explained in-depth what I need to do so I could equip the Rune Platebody. God bless these memories and if anyone read it whole, please do share some of your memories... I'd love to read them
im newer player, started only about a year ago. i remember being so scared to fight those cows close to goblins cuz whenever i tried to they beat the crap out of me. i also remember just going around asking what GE is and after going over there and reading every response from the bank guy to learn what it is still having no clue lol.
I remember my first time going into the wilderness, i was 7 and decided to "team up" with a player about 15 lvls higher then me. First thing he does is start going north, and im following along looking at the scenery. We got to the ghost shack by the black salamanders and he turned on me! I freaked out and started running south, eating my tuna for all they were worth, but alas his maple shortbow was too good for my 23 hp. And i lost my full mithril and my prized adamant dagger. XD good times, pretty sure i cried over that betrayal and made me sketchy to team up with anyone since.
I was a complete noob for months when i started, in like 2006. Had no idea how to make money and was basically the coolest guy in my school because I had mith helm and skim. Then one day a guy approached me and told me he was going to pay me 100gp each for iron ore, and I was like wait so i can get 100K!!!!!!!!!!! if i mine 1000 ore? I snuck in the computer room that night when my nan went to bed to farm iron ore at alkharid mine in f2p all night and sold him the 1000 ore for 100k and i thought I had literally made it in game by doing that. some of the best time in my life.
@@emsbikestories2491 Damn literally like this I was sneaking in living room throwing blanket over the TV so I could play some more Battle City or Contra on my polish bootleg NES console
I used to sit and farm cows for hours on end and think I was a beast in my full black armour. The fun of not knowing what to do was what it was all about. After a few months you got you head around stuff and like most got your full rune and couldn’t equip the plate body due to the quest hahah. So many memories of been a noob it was great. Sit in my room watching rsmv and grinding like mad, miss those days.
Aaron W holy shit I know right that completely hit different when he said it, I used to be SO curious bro and wonder heavily how it would be if I was a member and use to want to know how the other side of RuneScape looked like so bad
I use to think there was a secret way for me to get in I was being all creative and then some asshole would come up and say you gotta pay to be a member noob
@@savagesock3598 you'd be able to go to the Varrock king spot and hop to find a few worlds that had high risk pking going on when wild cam out. Made half my friends list like that and went out with dope big groups. Best days of rs for me followed by the release of osrs.
Yeah I agree on the server I was on I went to the wild all the way to where those devil things spawn and didn't see a single person. Yeah I remember when I played in 2007 the wild no matter what world you where on always had a lot of people.
My saddest moment was in 2005 in one of my first days of playing. 7 year old me fetched bananas in Karamja for 30gp each full inventory. I finally got to 1000 coins and was so happy. Only to get killed by a Karamja snake soon after. I was in tears, it was so unfair.
I remember getting from 2 mil up to 3.5 mil by merching whips and robin hood hats in Fally gardens world 2. I was so excited that I had all this money, I dropped it on the floor to see what the stack looked like with a view to pick it back up again. The game froze and logged me out. I desperately tried to enter my log in details as quickly as I could before it appeared to other players. The second I logged back in I saw it appear, and some level 105 in a santa hat ran over and picked it up. I begged him to give it back but he didn't believe that it was mine and told me to do one. I didn't log back in for another year.
That sucks! I’ve dared myself to temporarily drop items in the past as well but I was always worried that could happen lol. Do you play old school or when did you stop playing?
yo bro ik this was three years ago but i did the exact same thing my brother merched some items at fally until he got me a whip, which i wanted so bad but could never get enough money to get one. so first thing i did was take it to pest control. wanted to see what it looked like on the ground and the game ended. probably the worst day of my childhood life 😂
Found the whole set dropped on lumbridge on my first day of membership and i was like BEST DAY OF MY F***KING LIFE. Years later i did the quest and it was like the easiest piece of equipment to get, dropped right after the quest ended lmao.
i want to be a child back in 2004 again just to experience this all over again, genuine nice people, genuine curiosity , with as little content runescape had back then you never got bored
I mean there are still around 100 or so playing it on w334 Edit: and yes ice barrage is annoying there but almost everyone has it so diminishing returns are usually bearable with it. Usually. I don't care to actually capture the flag more just chill and kill
Yea it was amazing back in those times. It was always packed to the brim in Clan Castle. I Didn’t even realize I was experiencing a once in a life time thing until now. I recently just started playing last week after not playing since 2009, so much has changed
I remember feeling like such a badass when I finished getting the gold CW armor set. My cousin and I spent a ridiculous amount of time doing CW. The only time I ever got tired of CW is when I’d have a streak of games with awful teammates that had no clue what to do, but other than that I loved it.
damn man i feel bad for the peoiple who didnt experience this....cant believe its been 14 years...makes me so sad :( i was 10 years old when i started in 2006
Can we please have more content like this? I wouldn’t even mind an hour long video with this type of content but even more detailed. It’s fascinating. I played at that time and was an absolute noob. I love the memories this video reminds me of.
The coolest part about runescape back in the day was the free trade system. You can see in multiple screenshots people saying things like "Spending 1m". That's such a cool idea. This guy has money and has no idea what to spend it on and you can just trade him and see what he offers for your items. There is no grand exchange. There are no set prices. You barter or come up with your own prices. I remember trying to merchant for hours upon hours back in the day just sitting in Falador park or around Varrock bank with hundreds/thousands of other players. There were distinct areas meant for certain things to trade. You used to trade saradomin/guthix/zamorak armor north of West Varrock bank. I remember selling barrows armor in Falador park. All the rich bastards would be in certain parts selling party hats, Santa hats, and other rares. Man, good times.
i remember having tens of sheets of papers with prices. lobs 300 yews 300 big bones 200? it was very nice money making to make cakes and lobsters. wich i often did for a clan that was local. also finally being able to make pizza's made me a ton of money. that money i used to buy a dragon dagger and i was so happy. i even made an alt for mining essence to make runes for my clan.
My close irl friends told me about the game back in 2006. When I first started playing I remember being too scared to go any further than lumbridge. I'd kill goblins with the basic loot I got from tutorial island and thought that goblin mail was a super wicked drop and would run to the general store immediately and sell it, that's how I made my money. After about a week of playing I saw my sister (who also played with me and my irl friends) walking through Al-kharid, fascinated, I asked her how she got there.. She showed me the way and when it was my turn on the computer I vividly remember running straight there and after about 2 minutes of exploring I died to a scorpion by the mine. I lost everything I had and was absolutely devastated and cried for about 20 minutes and swore I'd never play the game again. My sister saw me and asked why I was crying and when I told her what happened all she said was "Why didn't you bank anything?". Ffs I didn't even know there was a bank. I still play off and on and to this day that memory haunts me every time I pass that stupid mine. I also remember killing cows for hours for my first mithril scimmy and not long after I obtained it I died in the wilderness to a pker, needless to say i cried once again and swore never to play but sure enough, here I am. = ]
Thank you for this flash back back then was some of the best memories I have. Man I miss the good old days ,😥 thank you again for this trip down memory lane.
i remember getting membership cards from my parents for christmas in like 09 and being so damn hyped! i miss these days of the game, and being a clueless kid. The Internet isn't the same anymore
I was training with a rune halberd at ardy zoo - I thought that was peak legend back then because it could hit quite high. This guy comes up to me and is super friendly, we chat for like half an hour and he compliments me on how high I can hit. He is curious as to how much he could hit and asks if he could borrow it. I was tentative, told him how I struggled to trust people because I'd been lured into the wildly 8-trillion times. He reassured me with his friendly charm - took it, hit the grizzly bear a few times, acted as if he would give me it back after then logged out. 80k that took me half a year to earn, gone. So sad.
I always tell my friends how educational runescape is: First game where i got scammed Learned how to type by competing with everyone outside varrock bank on that grass Grinded hours just to buy a weapon to go fight in wildy only to die and realise how tough grinding is T_T Very realistic market socialising and the list goes on....
Runescape back in 2006 was a portal to wonderland. Greatest game experience of my life. Even more than Xbox and WoW combined. I was having SO much fun in that world. It almost hurts to think about.
Yes! I can remember watching my friend pk with dds in varrok when we were like 10 OR 11. We use to record his pking on hypercam and freak out when he would spec a 25+25. Wish i still had that computer:P
Loved Swiftswitch, brings back many fond memories! The OG metal dragons really hits home, got 60-99 magic in 2006 on steel dragons.. took over 400k chaos runes and 8 months, back when d legs were 2.5m!
I remember lobster fishing was so popular for f2p. Kids would sit there hours during the summer break. And people actually talked to each since RUclips wasn't really a thing. Sometimes you might put on some music that you downloaded over Limewire. Those were some magical times for the internet.
I remember when construction came out I had a kitchen would throw house parties in my level 25 construction house and tell players to use their valuable item with the table, kick them out of the house and YOINK.. I got banned lol..
I still remember my first day in members... Was at my F2P training spot on Karamja killing lessers with ranged when I got my first "walliekaart" which i got membership with from my mom.. Best moment in my life when I got myself a magic shortbow for the first time.
Ik kocht ze in een tabakswinkel, mijn moeder was boos op me dat ik naar die winkel ging. Een 12 jarige aan de sigaretten! Maar mam, al mijn vrienden gaan daar ook heen. Oh, goede tijd
Thank you all for the amazing feedback and for commenting with your own RuneScape memories! Please keep doing so as I love to read them! Part 2 will be uploaded on Christmas Eve 2019. If you want something to tide you over, I made a video a while back looking at the early days of OSRS, when that old school spirit was revived: ruclips.net/video/3rQEVOBXIyA/видео.html
not to be a sad sack or anything but we barely lost any troops in the war on iraq; the chances that that guy was coming back were pretty good. Unless of course he didn't intend on coming back... maybe from the horror, maybe from the forever changed lifestyle... We've lost more more iraq veterans to suicide post-service than we did during battle.
I have a video idea for you Andrew. It came to me while you were talking about getting scammed for 20k. I'm not sure if you already covered this subject, but how about listing some of the old scams people used to do? There has to be some screenshots and video of some of the more common ones. I started playing in 2002/2003, I still play on my original account from back then (Cloudy Puff) I have the scythe on rs3 to prove it! =P . I remember sometime shortly after the release of rs2 in 2005 I was doing waterfall quest in my very first set of full rune armor complete with rune b axe. In one of the fire giant rooms near the entrance of the dungeon people would door trick people. Closing the doors and keeping you in the room with aggressive fire giants. I died, I lost everything. That rune armor took an insane amount of work for me to get and I was completely devastated. I think I quit for almost a year because of it. (disclaimer) - It may have been pre-rs2, I forget honestly. It was so long ago I don't remember if it happened on classic. I just don't know if I ever got full rune on classic which is why I think it happened after 2005. Edit* I was really hoping to see myself in a picture of his ^.^ Back then I was a fashion-scapie gamer girl with a red p hat and a quest cape
Hey this is a long shot but I’m going too check tonight I may possibly have my old laptop from when I was a kid I had screenshots as well I don’t know how many but if i find any or locate the old laptop I’ll be more then gladly too share them
@@WatchmojoUS my friends had a clan, cwl ( castle wars legends ) most of them were maxed. If anyone has ever heard of Skychi or seen any of his old rs videos, he used to play with us.
8:12 "Another level 126. I wonder if that guy still plays" - Man... That's Thehate!! He was big back then. Not as much as Zezima obviously but I'd say top 10. He was the first to reach 99 Agility and first to reach 2277 total level after the release of Hunter. He was also rank 12 in 2002. (From wiki). Thanks for the video. Still playing right now on my OSRS Ironman. Not only did I enjoy the pictures but I appreciated your commentary. 27:14 Autolycus... Another top player there. Can't remember much about him. One more thing that made everything more valuable was how hard it was to get items, and how you had to find out how much they were worth. If there was only one guy selling a d chain at fally park, he could boost that price a couple mill and someone could have bought it. It was all a time thing. How long were people willing to wait. I made millions merching d bones by fally east bank. I got scammed right by the edgeville - wildy boundary when there was no trench or anything. My buyer was standing two squares inside the wild alching. His combat level was way to high for me to even worry. Naïve me... I trade him, a guy logs in with ancient magiks and kills me. Lost my blue mask. Worth about 14m at the time.
I used to chat with Thehate! They were real chill and a great player. I started RS in the early 2000s and left a few years after. Those days of standing in the markets selling stuff are long gone...
I was going to post a similar comment about Thehate! I remember seeing this name at the top of the hiscores page all the time and thought it was an awesome username! glad you share a memory like this, also!
i remember seeing uloveme who was 2nd ranked at the time back at the fishing guild. She was just sitting in bank with her black armor G, it felt like i saw a celebrity lol
I hunted with Thehate when hunter came out, I'm pretty sure he held rank 3-5 for a 2 year stretch, along with Green098 and Yogosun. This makes me want to repair my old laptop and recover the hard drive.
This warms my heart. Thanks for sharing. I miss those days. Bank Sale! Life and games were so unique. I can't believe you tossed in the music. Never get that feeling again, but the music gets you as close as you'll ever get.
Right around 2006-2007 I was cutting mages near the Legends guild when a guy got one of the tree spirit random events. He was wearing a blue h'ween mask with some sort of fancy robes, I think maybe trimmed mage robes or something. He was AFK and everyone stood underneath him waiting for the loot. I knew about the whole alch value controlling which items you keep, so instead of spam clicking underneath him like everyone else, I right clicked and picked up the blue h'ween mask from the very bottom of the pile. I was 11 or 12 years old and was FREAKING out! I remember selling it for (I think) 14m at the time or something around that
I remember always carrying my cash stack with me because I liked seeing it add up when picking up coin drops. One time I died at dark wizards because I didn't pay attention and I didn't make it back in the 2 mins you had (losing 60k). The tears were real boys.
I remember crying the first time I lost full rune lmao. I worked my ass off for it and lost it in the wilderness cause I was sure there was no way this dude could hit an 8. he hit an 8.
I found 60k at dark wizards a long time ago. I was an absolute noob and ran up and freaked out when I realised how much it was. Managed to get myself rune legs and helm because of it. If that was you, thank you. Made one of my best rs memories.
DUDE, seeing how many players use to play back then really breaks my heart, how much it's died since then so sad....I'm happy I got to experience those days though, cherish forever.
YES! exactly! I hate that we will never get that same experience again, but oh my god what a great feeling it was to explore and not feel like you were on a time limit, nothing but pure enjoyment even out of the simplest of things. You could go almost anywhere on runescape, any world, and make a friend ( or enemy) basically just engage in conversation with whoever, whenever. it was such an amazing feeling.
Man I was so nooby back then I didn’t figure out people traded in fally until I had 3-4 months in playing I sold everything to general stores playing like a iron man before it was cool 😂
I remember when there would be like 10 people in the centre varrock general store and we'd play games where everyone would sell random shit then someone would randomly chuck something real valuable in and there would be a scramble to buy it first lol
Remember Varrock west bank on world 2? Used to be people wrapping all the way around the bank and down to the apothecary. There were different areas for selling things. I remember runes were always sold at the outside eastern wall of the bank.
@@delta-tuning That doesn't ring any bells. People didn't do that. It was a free for all and a complete mess. The Grand Exchange was the best addition to Runescape, along with HD in 2008, almost 12 years ago.
what a wonderful video. Reminds me of logging in just for the feeling of wonder. My friends and I had no idea wtf we were doing, and there was a simple beauty in hitting up castle wars all night long. Thank you so much for this video. Easily one of my favourite RS videos on youtube.
To be honest you can thank youtube for removing historical videos of the OG Runescape. There were thousands of RSMV and makers too. but they all got removed and that's shame. RUclips got big because of things like runescape BTW. Runescape was the best game people could video and put online and share clip before twitch.
I remember all them extremely cringe music videos but they were gems of RUclips runescape videos, I used to RUclips them all the time back in like 05-07 wondered why they all disappeared :(
I remember running to home after school because i was so motivated to gain more levels than my friends, Looking back to this and knowing that 13 years passed is just so sad but overall the nostalgia made us all tear :') Thank you for the amazing content
Oh man this brings back so many amazing memories. I started playing in RS Classic.. and there’s so many things I miss in some ways I wish there was no G/E I feel like back then the game was played more as a group and not so solo... like I remember doing quests as a group haha.. I had taken tons of screen shots from back in the day but as you said computers get thrown out etc... amazing video.
tonyt3955555 trust bro this is what I’m saying, it’s more like “hybridscape” rather than Old school. When OSRS first came out there was no GE, I loved that. Got people into bartering and made some items harder to acquire... now it’s all on a plate
I started playing in 2001. I was 8 years old when my brother introduced it to me. I still have screenshots from 01-06 and I enjoy looking at them from time to time. It reminds me of some of the great times I captured from that time. Cool stuff!
I have some old screen shots from around 2005-2007 as well. The maker of the vid should make an email or something we can all send pics to submit for a vid
8:13 Thehate! He was a legend back in the day and consistently a top player along with Zezima, The old Nite, English King, N0valyfe and many more. So much nostalgia, thank you so much for making this video!
Joining with miniclip was the best so many players. I was blown away how realistic it was. Spent the first few hours picking wheat and making bread east of lumby
HOLY SH- I remember that! I found it on miniclip in 2004-2005 and I could barely get passed tutorial island lmao, I always played ping pong on that site haha
Thank you Moe! For the blast from the past and of course AndrewAJT for this. Can’t even describe the feelings of nostalgia I had especially when you spoke of being F2P and wondering what was just beyond that gate next to Dorics hut
This touched my heart so deep. You could wander around Runescape and meet random people across the game. And the only meeting place where world 1 and 2 where people wouuld trade in varrock falador and Camelot. Ohhh my god the memories strikes good. really enjoyed watching this.
31 and still playing RuneScape. I started playing in 2003, my first downfall was when I walked into the wilderness with all my money and all my stuff. I lost it and stopped playing but came back the next hour lol.
This brought a tear to my eye man runescape back than was my life I miss those days of just logging on with no goals now it's all about being as efficient as possible
I miss 06. I remember sooo many people would just stand around varrock square in crowded worlds and wait for pkers to tele in. Back then damage would register through teleports so people would often die at v square and then we’d just jank their loot lol
@@farratheproducer-beatsinst6367 I did too but the guy used mystic tops instead. Ever since then I merched Mystic tops and even had a 'Perm buyer' who would buy 200 at a time lol. I miss those times
me and my dad used to play Runescape together a lot back in 06 07 08 he just passed in dec. this video brought back a lot of memory's and made me a little emotional glad to have found your channel
i got scammed in that era for my full rune (g), i didnt really react to it so all i did was be bummed about it and return to the yew trees to get my money back at edgeville yew trees.
i miss that when people just randomly talked to each other, like no matter where but always people just talked to strangers, nowdays nobody do that.. nowdays everybody play/watch videos in ssame time or listen music etc..
The grand exchange was the biggest thing to change the way we play. Before that people would find a trade and build connections in the word of mouth market, it wasn't until the grand exchange streamlined resource collection and distribution. For example I knew I could reliably fish lobsters and not waste a lot of time trying to sell them, but immediately with the GE it was more beneficial to kill monsters and sell all the different loot that would have qualified as a "bank sale" and take 6 hours to sell, only a week before.
so amazing, you hit a gold mine. brings back so many memories. I actually enjoyed playing runescape back then. it literally felt like an adventure every time you played.....then came youtube........lol im not complaing, one of the main reasons why i have a level 126 account in osrs today.
and also i thank the guy so much for sharing those pictures. just amazing, thats what i wish runescape still was today and not youtube info driven. but, thats just what it is
I'll never forget, I used to go down in to varrock sewers to kill skeletons so I could level up. I thought the players that trained on guards were so cool, and i was immensely proud of my full steel armor set and mithril scimitar. With the og basic red cape of course.
I was walking around in iron/bronze between varrock and al kharid. I would fight and mine in the scorpion mine, carry ore to the furnance in alkharid AND walk to varrock to smith items lol. I didn't bank.
I remember farming on release day, Zezima was at the Falador park tree patch typing “buying any seeds 1k each” and I had a few I traded him. Great times.
Back before he showed his true colours... these days he just threatens to hack people without actually following through when told to do it if he's gonna do it... I'm still waiting for him to do it.
@@davidwarren2771 not anymore, it was a few years ago and had it saved on my old old laptop, after I was threatened with a hack by him, a few other people have received threats off him too, so it's not like I'm the only one, honestly wish I still had the recording.. but like I'm not gonna try and convince you of the kind if person he is, create your own opinion, He went from my RS hero to RS Zero when it happened.. Just be cautious when interacting with him. Support wont do anything either since he only issued threats and hasn't actually followed through with any of them..
@@plntpls no, not when it's an account that has 14 years of my time put into it. It's the equivalent of someone just kicking your dog like a rugby ball.
When I was a kid I had like this best friend on RS who would always be on. i knew he was older than me by how he talked so i always tried to sound older but i was 8-10 so... anyway we were really cool, he even let me log into his account sometimes to help train his stats cause idk its was just cool to me to log into an account that was like 100cb (as i was only ever like 70). eventually he messaged me one day saying he had to go and that he probably wouldn't be back on for a while, when i asked him why he told me he was a sniper in the military and he had to go to war. My Dear old friend hasn't been on since. God bless your soul WarWar55 i hope you're out there somewhere.
I remember having many RS friends around that time in active duty. I was young like you, and didn't really comprehend war. One friend just played RS all the time because he couldn't really leave his house due to his combat wounds.
Masketta Man you think you miss pre ge, but you don’t. Osrs didn’t have the ge for years, the community voted over 80 percent to implement it. Although it is nostalgic, it’s not that fun to spend countless hours standing around trying to find a seller for specific items. The ge allows the game’s economy to develop and allows more of the content to be interacted with. Although I agree that the ge sucks some magic out of the game, and lessens player interaction significantly, it’s overall worth it to keep the game economy stimulated and keep players engaging with all the content
Oli NZ I don’t think that would work as people will just hop worlds to use GE. It would only work if a whole separate profile for those worlds was created
Thank you for sharing this. I played Runecape religiously from 2005-2008 and then took a hiatus for a year and played moderately in 2010, and then started a new in 2015 in OSRS for a few months. These pictures really bring back the nostalgia. And by nostalgia I don't simply just mean 'oh good times' but I'm referring to palpable sense of emotion that these evoke and the window into my childhood outside of the game. For example, seeing that 2005 health bar reminds me of being a kid, still exploring and learning about the game, hours on end after school . The yellow smile face icon for friends list reminded me of how excited I was to check to see if any of my friends were online at the same time as I and talking about the game in real life to some old childhood friends. The old school bank in Fally reminds me of merchanting bowstrings of prayer pots or unid herbs and planning in my spare time my next merchanting strategy/endeavour, calculating how much margin I could make with different commodities. The scroll bar in the chat pane reminds me of how carefully I read the progress text of a quest, or how I mastered the flash/scroll animations, which I unequivocally credit for my 160 wpm (haha!). These memories aren't just 'good times', but it's an anchor to parts of my childhood outside of gaming that otherwise I would've forgotten.
Dude thank you so much for this vid! Brings back so many good memories! I started playing in 2005 and I recognise all of it. Still getting those teenage kid feelings when looking at some of the pictures :3. After 15 years im still playing Runescape. Its been such a big part in my life. At least I can say my English is high on average compared to others within my range of age in my country. Im sure this comes forth out of playing RS for years haha
I remember buying membership as a kid. I wrote a letter to Jagex and sent them an envelope filled with coins that I saved up. Those were truly more simple times.
aha, photo evidence! everyone always goes "wtf no we didnt" when i say back in the day we used to do fight caves with a crystal bow. i miss the old monster models. i was never a fan of the 2006 monster graphics update
I actually really lovex the graphics update. But NOT Eoc. Killed rs for me. The Eoc update is when i stopped playing. I saw it. Tried to play and just fucked right off.
I didn't prefer but 2006 graphics update either but it was still absolutely playable. The HD update in 2008 and all subsequent graphics updates only made RS more and more unrecognizable.
That was the only way I knew to do fight caves back in 06. Two crystal bows and guthans was the standard to actually making it through for many players
After months playing f2p, I begged my parents (literally in tears) to pay for membership in 5th grade. I was 11 y/o. I then picked flax for weeks. Traded all profits for a fez??? I switched to fishing after that. SOOOO many conversations! The fishing guild was my favorite place. Runescape will always be my all time favorite game. I'm glad it still has a community today, but it will never be what it was. Levi5811
Dude the flax grind was real back then. Remember when you had to type 100 times in a massive horde of people " selling flax (x) each " praying somebody who needed it saw your message and traded you.
I remembered playing back on 2006. I'm from Venezuela, in Latin America didn't get so popular as north America or UK. But I learned most of my English there and meet a lot of cool people.
I never take time to comment, but these vids are amazing and I could watch them all day. I'm so glad that gentleman shared his photos with you. Very wholesome content and very unique. Keep up the good work!
Man this is the runescape I remember falling in love with playing. I remember playing through the summer of 05, I had my first job collecting cowhides for some guy at lummy castle lol. Looking at these pics, makes me happy, yet I feel an element of sadness. It was this community feel, playing castle wars... burthorpe games room... duel arena THEN.... damn. Runescape will never be like that. Sometimes I really think OSRS has been updated far too much, to the stage where it’s hybridscape not Truely OSRS.miss the simplicity of 05/06 :( I make plenty of money on GE today flipping but I’d gladly want to have it removed from game. I learnt my bartering skills in varrock west, and fally big bank, it captured the “market-like” feel which was appropriate for RuneScape’s setting in time (medieval). I guess we must accept that these are just a distant memory now, and the game truely was great. There will never be another quite like runescape in 05/06. Everything is too accessible now compared to the golden days. This time of RuneScape will always hold a place in my heart 🙌🏽😎💙
The one thing that will make recreating truly "Old School" runescape impossible, is that we live in an age of information now, we can look up every little thing, there's guides on how to do almost everything, wiki pages with exact weapon stats to tell you what's actually better than what Take Doric's quest as an example, super easy quest, you just have to bring the materials and it literally takes under a minute, and you get a funny line of 3rd wall break dialogue something along the lines of "I just funnily enough happen to be carrying those exact things". Not many people probably saw that line of dialogue back in 06 or 07 because knowing quest info ahead of time was rare
the part about cluelessness is accurate, I remember when I started I wondered around the game for weeks just collecting things and doing random stuff. Didn't realise there was a friendslist or even a bank in Runescape so I stocked everything in my inventory and got sad when I thought I need to get rid of something. A month later and a friend of mine tells me runescape has banks for stocking stuff lmao...11 years old at the time and not a wonder in the world
Man Ive been playing since 04, i gotta go through my old hard drive i have so many barrows loots, Pk's, even a back to back Armadyl hilt drop picture when coin share was in action. Great video and great memory of how the game was!
@@vesical7952 The entire main portion of the Iraq war was directly due to 9/11 happening (well, using 9/11 as a false pretense to invade a country that had nothing to do with 9/11, as the attackers were Saudi). They were talking about the Iraq war specifically in the video, and that didn't technically start until 2 years after 9/11. And obviously thought you would be taking about the iraq war.
Oh the f2p grind back then, selling big bones and essence was a thing. And the best scam was to say i could trim your armor. This was a true nostalgy trip.
one of my best memories from being a little kid is finally getting the d legs drop and selling it so i had enough to buy dharoks full set. my worst memory is letting my online friend borrow the dharoks set to test his max in the duel arena. he logged out immediately and i never saw him online again. good times lol
Hey man, I just wanted to say I loved this video. I don't play anymore but I still sometimes watch an OSRS video here and there. This truly was a trip down memory lane for me, and everything you described I instantly knew what you were talking about and could relate to haha. Hauling bananas for profit and fishing for lobbys on karamja, dying and losing my hard earned gear the few times I risked going into the wildy, the rich people chilling in varrock square flexing their outfits and rares. After what must have been a few years, hitting 60 def was a huge milestone for me just so i could try on a pair of dragon platelegs a friend let me borrow lol. It was a simpler time...and you're exactly right, I was just a clueless noob kid adventuring around with that iconic music playing in the background, totally immersed until someone had to use the phone (remember that dial-up? haha). Thanks for this.

Dude, I know it was only about 14 years ago, but this makes me feel so old, like I'm an old man watching cassette tapes as a kid. This is nuts.
14 years ago O_O
It’s heartbreaking almost to see the game we once loved in front of us in still image format. We can physically see it, remember it, but never experience that same feel playing in this great time again. We are lucky enough to say we did experience it though, something modern players will never know

Holy shit it was 14 years ago that’s crazy I was 6
When I was a kid all I did was to play flash games on websites till I found RuneScape, at that time I didn't knew how to read English, so I got stuck at tutorial island for 3 days on 2007 lol.
Mined iron ore for days to buy a full black g then get scammed with a normal full black, also gave my full time which cost me 100k to a guy with full saradomin to trim my rune set XD
Since I couldn't read English, I had to find guides of quest in my language so I could do them, that was fun. Nowadays quest dialogues in mmorpgs are skipped like in 99% of the time
Lets all collectively forget everything we know about rs and go back to this.
I got it back in HCIM with no guide. Try it if you haven't dont use a guide.
Tripp City you need to have no life in order to live your life in a game like that.
I second this!
Nah, I still love RuneScape.

I guess that makes the original game like cave paintings lol

This was the best time of my life. Going out with ur friends, coming home, and playing RS the whole night. This was the Time, when flax picking was a good way to money
I was so proud when i was able to wear blue d hide.
He declined the trade and wrote "This isn't enough, give me more"
After few minutes of me trying to explain this is all I have and it is A LOT OF MONEY, I don't know if he was a noob like me or just a really kind person and gave it to me for the money I had.
To this day I have their response on my email since I screenshoted it to my friend and send it to his email so he could translate what they've replied (I had only a basic knowledge when it came to english so not only was I learning the game, but the whole language too)
I wonder if they would send the same response as they did to me back in the day... because they've explained in-depth what I need to do so I could equip the Rune Platebody.

Aaron W holy shit I know right that completely hit different when he said it, I used to be SO curious bro and wonder heavily how it would be if I was a member and use to want to know how the other side of RuneScape looked like so bad

Can you get perfect score in RS 2006 era?
Sad part about that story is that it looks the same as 10k on the ground.
that level 105 was a bad guy for sure
yo bro ik this was three years ago but i did the exact same thing my brother merched some items at fally until he got me a whip, which i wanted so bad but could never get enough money to get one. so first thing i did was take it to pest control. wanted to see what it looked like on the ground and the game ended. probably the worst day of my childhood life 😂

Walking around the masses of people, trying to find correct area to sell your items. I forgot about that, thank you :)
"bank sale"
Seers Village bank was a hype trading spot in summer 07. Anyone else?
i remember having tens of sheets of papers with prices.
lobs 300 yews 300 big bones 200? it was very nice money making to make cakes and lobsters. wich i often did for a clan that was local. also finally being able to make pizza's made me a ton of money. that money i used to buy a dragon dagger and i was so happy. i even made an alt for mining essence to make runes for my clan.
This makes me a little sad... I miss those days...

I was tentative, told him how I struggled to trust people because I'd been lured into the wildly 8-trillion times. not to be a sad sack or anything but we barely lost any troops in the war on iraq; the chances that that guy was coming back were pretty good.
Thanks for sharing very interesting
Bro... It gets better, I promise 😭
I remember crying the first time I lost full rune lmao. I worked my ass off for it and lost it in the wilderness cause I was sure there was no way this dude could hit an 8.

YES!
Hello there
I remember when there would be like 10 people in the centre varrock general store and we'd play games where everyone would sell random shit then someone would randomly chuck something real valuable in and there would be a scramble to buy it first lol
this made me laugh thats hilarious man!
I was such a fkin noob I couldn't fight anyone so I spent the entire game trying to line up a catapult shot and caving in the underground passage
To be honest you can thank youtube for removing historical videos of the OG Runescape. There were thousands of RSMV and makers too. but they all got removed and that's shame. RUclips got big because of things like runescape BTW. Runescape was the best game people could video and put online and share clip before twitch.
True... i had so many Runescape videos on my channel. They all got removed.
Why were they removed?
@@charliekelly7515 google bought youtube and all videos were deleted. Everyone had to reupload everything. I think it was around 06 that it happened

Yeah fuck you google
I remember running to home after school because i was so motivated to gain more levels than my friends, Looking back to this and knowing that 13 years passed is just so sad but overall the nostalgia made us all tear :')
Thank you for the amazing content
Oh man this brings back so many amazing memories. I started playing in RS Classic.. and there’s so many things I miss in some ways I wish there was no G/E I feel like back then the game was played more as a group and not so solo... like I remember doing quests as a group haha.. I had taken tons of screen shots from back in the day but as you said computers get thrown out etc... amazing video.
Same... G.E ruined my Redberry Pie business... was selling them at 20-30k each. I managed to make 130 mill off them before G.E.
The GE I believe, was the major downfall
very sad when i discovered osrs that the ge was back in, even more sad when i realized i couldn't pick up a guys stuff who had died.
Remember selling super sets for like 10k
tonyt3955555 trust bro this is what I’m saying, it’s more like “hybridscape” rather than Old school. When OSRS first came out there was no GE, I loved that. Got people into bartering and made some items harder to acquire... now it’s all on a plate
These pictures are super nostalgic :) I quit the game in 2008. I recently got the urge to try OSRS, and stumbled upon your channel!
The real question is did anyone ever find out about "We are the 0" whereabouts?

I would really love to know too. I wish him well if he's still out there. If not, I hope his son's able to shed a story or two for us. #Godbless

I started playing in 2001. I was 8 years old when my brother introduced it to me. I still have screenshots from 01-06 and I enjoy looking at them from time to time. It reminds me of some of the great times I captured from that time. Cool stuff!

What a great time of my life, sad RuneScape will never feel the same as when I was a child back in 06 thanks for sharing these pictures

A friend of mine used to swap obby capes with black capes from highway men to make his money
i got scammed in that era for my full rune (g), i didnt really react to it so all i did was be bummed about it and return to the yew trees to get my money back at edgeville yew trees.
the full verac noted swap with black skirt was shit too :P
i miss that when people just randomly talked to each other, like no matter where but always people just talked to strangers, nowdays nobody do that.. nowdays everybody play/watch videos in ssame time or listen music etc..

Absolutely. The GE needs to be abolished also
@@farratheproducer-beatsinst6367 abolished is too radical and the player base would not like that. Make it somehow inconvenient to use
We just need a few Worlds or one World that has no GE access.

Did you get it? 😂
I did!

We definitely did! I remember using one to kill hellhounds in taverly dungeon for clue scrolls.
I'm glad it still has a community today, but it will never be what it was. Levi5811
Dude the flax grind was real back then. Remember when you had to type 100 times in a massive horde of people " selling flax (x) each " praying somebody who needed it saw your message and traded you.

The one thing that will make recreating truly "Old School" runescape impossible, is that we live in an age of information now, we can look up every little thing, there's guides on how to do almost everything, wiki pages with exact weapon stats to tell you what's actually better than what
Take Doric's quest as an example, super easy quest, you just have to bring the materials and it literally takes under a minute, and you get a funny line of 3rd wall break dialogue something along the lines of "I just funnily enough happen to be carrying those exact things". Not many people probably saw that line of dialogue back in 06 or 07 because knowing quest info ahead of time was rare
moe we appreciate you more than words can explain
the part about cluelessness is accurate, I remember when I started I wondered around the game for weeks just collecting things and doing random stuff. Didn't realise there was a friendslist or even a bank in Runescape so I stocked everything in my inventory and got sad when I thought I need to get rid of something. A month later and a friend of mine tells me runescape has banks for stocking stuff lmao...11 years old at the time and not a wonder in the world

It was a simpler time...and you're exactly right, I was just a clueless noob kid adventuring around with that iconic music playing in the background, totally immersed until someone had to use the phone (remember that dial-up? haha).
