Growing up in NYCity in the post-war 1950s was a special time for me. Beyond the nostalgic aspect, this scene says a lot about why so many of us will always call NY home, no matter where we live. The song has that special emotional underpinning which grabs hearts...especially for those privileged to have been raised during the optimistic '50s.
this NEVER gets old! This is by far my most favorite Martin and Lewis film! at 17 a theater class i was in gave an assignment on recreating what we thought the best musical choreography in film for a talent show up coming..most chose Astaire, Kelly, even Cagney, but me & a friend chose THIS routine! stunned my teacher hated the idea-i was an actor NO singer-my partner was the singer so jerry's singing was perfect 4 me & the dancing was relatively easy to learn- WE TORE THE HOUSE DOWN! memories!
I love this partnership and collaboration. Even though by this time a split was imminent, they gave their best to this beautiful lil number. I’ve never seen Dean Martin so athletic and seemingly enjoying the work. Jerry is his usual very athletic dynamic aggressive self playing off that original Smooth Criminal Dean Martin. Love this. RIP Dean and Jerry.

No one will never ever really know the true real reason for the break up of the act the Martin and Lewis act ...We will find out who killed Kennedy before that.
Me and my gang were teen agers a d grew up with these incredibly talented guys-we made sure to see every one of their films! Now, we're all in our 80's, a nd sadly, they've passed on: so.....thanks,for the memories you two.....
I was studying tap in one of the best dance schools in New York (hence America) when this came out and of course we had a routine to this song. Unlike some of my routines from those days, I can't remember a single step of this one.
itsjust me Because these are very different times and people are much more cynical and jaded today. I’m not sure if anyone who didn’t live through those post-War years can ever really fully understand the relative innocence and hopefulness of those times. We had just come through a long war just a few years before and people were lighthearted and thought they had so much to look forward to. It really was a Golden Age before all the horrors of the late 20th century descended on us. As the old saying goes; ‘The past is another country, they do things differently there.’
@@lindashelley3635 Very well said, Linda. Your comments were perceptive & articulate. Great summation of that long-ago era in entertainment, as well as a once-great nation that seems to be diminishing by the day. Thanks again!
That was on a movie set, it was all recreated in the HUGE Paramount hangars. It was all fake except the two of them and the extras pretending to be bums. A 5-year-old child would understand, for Christ's sake.
God knows why. But i’ve been watching Jerry Lewis interviews recently. It seems to me, that he was quite up his own ARSEHOLE!!! Except. I do amdmire the way he stood up for Sammy Davis Junior. He stood up for the underdog.
Who is over 45 and still loves this move and all Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin movies?
You don't have to be over 45 dear 🤗💝

Even now there is no comedy couple as good as they were.
Goodbye, Jerry Lewis. Thanks for the memories and the laughs.

This Is My Favorite Scene Of Them, From The Movie Living It Up 1954

I saw that movie as a kid and, in my fifties, I still remember those lyrics...

Love it, brings bck great childhood memories of going to the flicks in Dublin ! XXXXX
I forgot how well-done the production was in these Martin-Lewis pictures, I was expecting it to be more low budget than this.
They were top box-office stars when this film was made.
love it! Thank you!
Countless thanks to Jerry Lewis, Dean Martin, Paramount studios (and verycoolsound).
This is just the best! Amazing music and dancing! Thanks for posting it. I remember I watched it when I was still in elementary
Que fantástico escucharlos la época de oro del cine artistas como ellos ya no existen geniales
Thanks so much for the post. Saw this movie several times growing up as I was a big Martin & Lewis fan and this song was my favorite.

Wait doesn't NY have street preformers though like would it really be that weird?

"Living It Up."

Homeless people are rarely violent...
Look what a movie! It was certainly not a true homelss that. The scenes are reconstructed from reality for a movie!
@@jerrylewisthekid5479 It's a joke. I was kidding , those guys were extras who were paid to be silent and watch Jerry and Dean perform.

Dean and Jerry's movies were as bad as Elvis's. ON stage in clubs on TV they were Terrific.
Terrible can’t stand jerry they were better apart
