  • This is probably the easiest way to tie an FG knot simple and tight.
If you don't tie it tight it can come undone and you will lose your trophy fish.
In this video we show you how to use a simple trick to anchor the line in your fingers, making it easy to tie really tight so it won't come undone.
Alternative methods are quite complicated to tie and difficult on a moving boat.
The FG knot is best used as a leader knot to tie braid to mono leader using the wind on leader system. This system allows a longer leader which assists landing fish around rocks and pilons etc as the leader is more abrasive resistant.

im sure you were skeptical when that knot first came out mand eaning how can it be stronger than the ABSpeacial but after 50 or more practice knots the FG really turned out to be the strongest leader knot and smoothest THX for sharing

I've watched many videos on tying this knot, still haven't nailed it consistently, I like your method of rod holder and standing on the leader spool, will use next time (might even give it a go today) but I prefer the reverse rissuto (that's not the correct spelling) for finishing the not off instead of all the half hitches

Same. I’ve always done the 3 half hitches around the leader and braid. I pull hard as I can after the first hitch to lock it in. Then the Rizzuto finish around both leader and braid as well. Then you don’t have the leader end coming off at an angle.

I had my fg fail against a good fish on the weekend. I used a few choice words. Will follow your technique with plenty of practice for sure

If you are not using a jigging rod with small guides you can use the tried and proven bimini + albright. Ryan has caught over two thousand huge metre plus barramundi and can tie both in under one minute. www.ryanmoodyfishing.com/wind-on-leader-system/

try this: just before snipping the mono pull on the main line and the mono leader really hard (use gloves), this allows the braid to sink into the mono enough so that it will not slip, it also gives you that confidence that it will not slip when fishing.

I find FC lines over 50lb become an issue with the FG knot. I have returned to mono leaders and it binds much better and casts with no slap. I use the PR knot for any GT popping rods they have large guides and its the strongest knot you can use.

he never cinched the wraps down after the first half hitch most important part so it bites the floro
