I SO AGREE. I have thought of this many times. And then… all the very talented who, for a myriad of reasons, don’t become musicians at all (access, mental health, etc).
I really love how PMJ makes music for people with a wide range of taste. The cover so many genres and iconic artists. I love so many genres, and I love to see them all blended with vintage style. Thanks PMJ. YOU ROCK!
I think they just go for easily identifiable songs. Something a lot of people find accessible. The talent is in interpreting a diverse catalog into a style that's completely removed from the original.
In principle, I like that they make music, unfortunately what is being released to the masses today and occupies the music charts, conscience does not allow us to call it music.
Nice observation! Scott Bradlee himself, definitely one of those pianists who can do it all blindfolded and upside down. Insane. And started this all as a fun exercise with his buds because they love music that much. But a good reminder that there are many more performers up there than the singer. Who nails it as well. Everyone did!
This is an homage that properly displays Cobain's song writing abilities. The man was not just an edgy punk but was a sensational word smith. Thanks Alisan Porter and PMJ for stirring myself and taking me down memory lane.
Not to diss Cobain, but this is not an example of his being "a sensational word smith". "A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido!" That's someone with a rhyming dictionary, not a master of lyric-writing. Again, this is not to diss ALL of Cobain's work, but this song is not exactly the pinnacle of poetry.
@@cameronsitton501The alcoholic drinks, The Mulatto, The Albino, and The Mosquito are present in the line. Alcohol is known to enhance the libido, hence "my libido". Nevermind was originally called Anthem, and Kurt Cobain said this song (whether he meant it jokingly or not) was about a teenage revolution, so this line could be an allusion to teenage alcoholism and general drug usage with teens, which is still an ongoing problem. It isn't mind blowingly deep, but it's likely more then someone with a rhyming dictionary. (Also, this isn't me saying "ACThuaLlY, DadDY KUrt wAs a GENIuTh", this is just me trying to say that maybe the line means something, even if unintentionally.)
I much prefer when you make the song fit the genre than when you try to make the genre fit the song... This was one of the better covers for that reason.
@@BlownMacTruck The way he put it didn't make so much sense but basically he's saying that some of the covers don't fit the genre as much because they are too close to the original.
Kurt was a tortured man. And this song as written and sung by him encapsulated so much of that. I feel the singer here captures a lot of that in her performance and does justice to the song. Great cover.
Fergus MacLeod. So what? His first single was Love Buzz a cover from Shocking Blue. The leadsinger (Mariska Veres) of Shocking Blue made a lot of stuff even Jazz and Gypsy music. Great artists are seldom narrowminded.
I grew up being a huge Nirvana fan and this doesn't sound anything like any other version have ever listened to. Omg what a voice, girl! I love the meaning and feel you give to the song. It's surprisingly good with that orchestra and style of melody too!
007: The Patch to Nirvana A outstand thriller. The Queen's agent must unveil the true about an obscure secret weapon. A former Nazi nightmare breed in the early cold war that gone horribly right before get discountinued due to it's volatility. But can James Bond fight a enemy that is mostly a ghost?
i'm back to this AGAIN. there's so much to like... the way she says 'whatever' at 3:59? the great dress. how does she have enough breath for that whole 'yeah' at 4:38? every time she drops the pitch in 'entertain us' i get chills. i don't know who i'm more attracted to, the singer or the double bass(?) player.
I appreciate this channel because it doesn't only make great covers, it also performs great shows to sit and watch! Look at vocal's hands! Great job, guys.
i hate that this doesn't have a million views because its my all time favourite song that pmj's ever produced. alison porter's voice carries this song so beautifully, and the arrangement is brilliant. i loooove this
this is amazing... i absolutely love the slow groove of this, that maintains the dark, passionate feeling of the original. i also am very impressed by the way you translated the musical motifs from the original into arrangements for this ensemble, especially the post chorus guitar riff
After a few months of not watching the channel I was just catching up with what I'd missed, and I'm absolutely blown away by this performance. More Alisan Porter please! Her voice is so soulful and powerful, and expressed so effortlessly! I found it really moving actually, which I didn't expect of a Nirvana cover. And of course the rest of the band and the arrangement were outstanding. Incredible, incredible performance. Easily on a par with my previous favourite PMJ covers, Morgan James' "Take Me To Church" and Haley Reinhart's "Creep". I have a feeling I'll return to this video many many times! Thank you.
One of my favourite songs of all time and I loved this version. Been playing PostmodernJukebox for last couple of hours after someone introduced the channel to me... epic! Loving it.
honestly my first impression of this song wasnt the best. but it came up on my mix while i had headphones and i was honestly blown away. the way this woman sings has honestly left me in awe
This has been sitting in my watch later list for a while. I felt like the last few PMJ releases were lackluster and wasn't excited about hearing what I figured would be a disapointing take on one of my favorite songs. I am so glad I held onto it and finally gave it a listen! This was a truly captivating vocal performance and the arrangement for strings provides the perfect setting for a dark cover.
El Tio Brizu Yep, I was definitely being completely genuine. Nothing facetious here. I actually thought the vocal heavy song had no lyrics. You caught me.
Goodness these people need to be on the Radio...... I like there versions of these songs better then the originals.... I am in love with this channel :)
When ever I see a new PMJ video, I not only am amazed by the experience, but appreciate how much work goes into it. The suitable venue selection, the sound and lighting, the filming, the costumes, the selection of musicians who have spent years studying and practicing, the song selection and arrangements. I never whine about concert ticket prices, professionals deserve every penny. Love your work.
I know, everybody know's. wanted to put here that's i'm not being some obnoxious meanie. i just wanted to say "i thought so too", couldn't help shoehorning in a reference to the songs lyrics
Would be nice, but The Eagles are notorious for charging outrageous license fees to play their songs and they sue often. I don't know if they still do it, but The Eagles wouldn't even allow their songs to be played on television at all, even for a fee, and I'm sure that would be true for RUclips too.

True, it sounds dark classical and I guess Kurt would like it.
He was a grunge artist. Why do you think he would like classical music?
