Ding ding ding!! We have a solution to the spelling problem I ran into at 2:59 - Marcy over at www.youtube.com/@sketchbookscheming has let me know that the word is "Zhuzh", which, can we just all agree, is a weird spelling? So next time you are writing a paper on interior design, you will no longer be deducted points for spelling that word incorrectly. It's just one of the many benefits of watching these videos... :)

My mother was an architect and she absolutely loved loved loved that she did. She was amazing at it too. When I was young she would have to bring me into the office with her at time and I grew up playing with her alcohol markers, the stencils, the drafting pencils and just the best art supplies a kid could ask for, and she showed me how they built the miniature dioramas for the building models. As I got more into art as I got older I was more into the creativity and fantasy aspect of but I had that base familiarity with and appreciation for architecture. I was and still am no good at math or drawing straight lines or measuring and perfectly spaced lines. I would draw my fantasy castles and treehouses as a teenager and my mom loved them but their wonky aspects gave her anxiety lol. She passed away 11 years ago and I miss her so much. It was honestly hard for me to draw or create at all for a really long time after she died. It was sudden and traumatic. I’ve now come to the realization that I am my mother’s daughter and by drawing my fantasy houses, castles and cabins, her love for architecture lives on through me. While my creations are most definitely not up to any type of code and are as far from realistic actual architecture as they could be, my love for beautiful and weird structures came from her. My love for seeing personality and emotion in buildings came from her. I’m so glad I’m finally in a place where I feel I can draw swag in without getting overly emotional, I’m glad that such a small thing and drawing something as innocuous as buildings could make me so emotional. I can drive through my old hometown and still see many buildings that she designed that are standing today. Our creations are our impact on this world and people around us, however small. ❤❤

What a touching and lovely tribute! You’ve got me so curious about your mother’s work now - I’d love to see it! I understand both the difficult and important aspects of those memories and how that can affect your own creative life - I’m glad to hear that you seem to be finding comfort in your own creative voice and hearing the echoes of your mother too - that’s pretty profound! I think she would love to see her child finding her own artistic path, whatever it might be… but grin a bit that she influenced how you saw the world. Thank you so much for sharing your experience… I do hope I get to hear/see more about it over time!

Love your expressive buildings, Brian! Very inspiring to me in that I am usually chained to a reference photo if anything has a hint of perspective. I loved how you were able to zhuzh them up too!

I think this sort of thing is really fun, just making up little worlds - but you can absolutely use references too! I just don't enjoy drawing all these perspective lines everywhere and if I'm just making stuff up it can never be "wrong", haha! "Zhuzh" - see, that was going to be my next guess (ahem). Who the.... I'm convinced English was created as a practical joke. Haha! Thanks for the help there!

Hi there! 😊 What an intriguing video! 🎨 The vibrant colors and fantastical designs are simply delightful. 🌈 I especially loved the first sketch, where the bicycle makes you wonder what could have happened, 🚲 the second sketch with the ice cream shop 🏠, and the fourth sketch with the bunnies, octopus, mushrooms, and scarves-such a fantastic imagination at work! 🐰🐙 Keep up the amazing work! 🎉

Thank you very much for the kind comment! I like the first sketch the best too - I think it’s the colors - really bright, but not overwhelming, I think. Thanks for checking out the video!!

ooh...these are great! The yeti thief is my favourite (althought it's a tough choice!) and really liking that city background :) The giant ball on the birdhouse was looking like a fat ball to me riiight up until you turned it into a disco ball to attract passing party-goers (hey, isn't that what all houses need? might even get a band in there!) So, there I was, mind made up (can't beat the yeti!) right up until I saw the final one, and you stole me away with the rabbits. They're obviously discussing ways to get that octopus out of their watch tower :D

I always love getting your feedback! Did I turn that into a disco ball!? Man, I really wish I would have thought of that because, as we all know, that’s the thing that makes a party. Somehow we gotta get the octopus over to the house party and the bunnies will have a place to chill in the observation box. Then… Bigfoot/yeti can bring the ice cream and the world will smile with perfect balance! Glad you enjoyed the videooooooooo

Wow, there are so many angles and compositions in the sketches, showcasing your drawing ability! You made me crave ice cream after work. It's happy Friday, why not haha. It's very inspiring for me to hear your thinking process while you're creating those sketches.

I hope you got your ice cream!! It ISSSS Friday and I hear the call of the sweet marble slab creamery calling your name. Or, maybe its MY name... ice cream doesn't speak very distinctly, I guess... I better go make sure, huh?
I'm glad you enjoy the process - I never quite know if I'm saying too much or being boring or... I dunno. Like you, I'm new to this... just kinda figuring it all out. Always nice to hear from you, Chika! Enjoy a creative weekend!
