Of all the people that teach me how to improve my drawing, you are by far the best. Your combination of explanation, demonstrations, and flow of your videos manage to consistently pack in a wealth of knowledge. You seem to effortlessly make this knowledge available to all. Congratulations not only to your developing mastery of drawing, but also the ability to teach it to the masses. Please know how much we all appreciate both!
Not sure how I ended up on this channel because I don't draw but you have some of the most aesthetically pleasing filming/editing styles I've ever seen
I've probably watched a thousand art sketching drawing painting videos on YT. I think this may be the finest one I've ever seen. Portraits are probably the most difficult skill to learn in art, and doing them directly in ink with no pencil sketch makes it about 5 times more difficult. (Yes I try.) So I'm not sure people realize how incredibly skillful and artful this demonstration is because you make it look so effortless. Just superb. This is worth watching over and over.
Drawing in black ballpoint pen is one of my favorite supplies! Pen drawings really do make you slow down because each mark is final, there is no erasing. You’re videos are so inspirational. Hope one day my videos will be to this caliber
A lot of art teachers emphasize you should draw with mediums you cannot erase and i think this is the way, because you will never learn your mistakes if you erase it.
You are so in your own pocket. Even though you are an exceptional artist, i don't watch your videos for the art and the art advice. I watch because I enjoy being part of this world you have carved out for yourself. I recognize that your world is built on self-love and lots of dedication. Please always stay true to yourself and your vision. Please never create anything just because it will get you followers. I wish you to stay so deep in your own pocket that you can never be shaken out of it by external temptations. If you want to get weird or post something unusual, go for it! Go ahead and rub people the wrong way! That's their problem! ❤
I think it’s very relaxing watching your videos and informative, it also amazes me that you do it with ink. I’ve done it before with colored pens but not without references I’m inspired by you to grow to that level of freedom to draw without them references. I also understood the reference you made when you said that ink forces you to have a deeper intention with every stroke because there is no undo or erase. 9:01am
It's inspiring when I watch you so "matter of factly" create masterpiece-quality ink sketches. You are truly blessed with talent deep in your soul. I stand in total awe of your abilities. I will subscribe to your channel hoping that some of what you do will rub off on me. Thank you.
Amazing... although the worst part about watching this as an artist is realizing how effortless inking is for you... and how near impossible it is for me. It's not the ink, it's the understanding of form, light and shadow, proportions, and the fearlessness and confidence you put down that understanding on paper. I build a drawing... you print a drawing. My mind can not comprehend how one does that 4 portraits in a row without an "undo" command to fix your mistakes :) Perhaps I'm not there yet, perhaps I'll never be.... honestly I dont think I ever will have that ability. My brain just does not process things this way. As a sculptor I can build and refine... but one wrong brush stroke and my ink drawings are completely broken beyond repair. I Can't see the total of it without sketching it in pencil. What you're doing is more printing than sketching or sculpting... and I don't understand how that is possible.
I have been drawing a lot and posting on my community page it helps me, the mental health nurse told me in hospital after I tried killing myself 5 times back in Jan and Feb of this year to try it and I just think it helps me not cut because if I am sad I can draw something that feels sad or something angry or evil of something I feel I wish I was a great artist like you though
its my first time watching one of your videos and i can say without fear you are a master and your technique is simply incredible, thank you for continue doing this amazing job!
Hullo Jess, I do enjoy watching your sketching spreads in your sketchbooks! I kinda feel like you have a true gift for this kind of presentation as your works always look so well done!! I know this is because you keep working at it all of the time! I know I have slacked off for over 10 years and working in a sketchbook is just not where I spend my time these days. Thanks for continuing to share your works in your books with these videos, so lovely Thank You!
Great video. I enjoyed watching you create your delightful sketches, but I also felt there was a lot of information for me to take away, think about and try in my sketches. Thank you.
Gorgeous composition! Brave of you to dive right in with a brush-tip. I find starting with a fineliner allows one to get away with construction lines and work 'em into the rendering later on.
You are so amazing!! I love watching your videos! You have taught me several things too. But I love watching the way you go about your drawings and the ease at which you create your pieces!! You are a master of your craft for sure!!! ❤❤❤
I like you're back on the barrels of your pens when first touching the initial shape with highlights in mind. While it is a dark Irreversible move I'd bet it feels more like a mid tone to which you intend on Goin darker on later. And I'd also say especially when warming up, or first getting started. That kind of beginning tempo can really be spread out to create some masterful pieces.
Thank you for the great advice and exercises ^^ I’ll try to implement some in my next spread! I also really appreciated the videography and the way you guided us through your session: it was very personal and immersive, and it really reflected your advice to slow down and be intentional too. It’s very inspiring!
What an amazing masterpiece! Great composition. But foremost: I am inspired by the way you put your lines. Your hatching and sculpting those beautiful faces, the expressions and the lighting are gorgeous. Thank you so much for sharing! 💛
Lovely work! I'm taking a course on ink sketching, so this is helpful . The instructor has started with exercises that seem much more related to illustration or cartoon. ie based on one's imagination more than 'reality'. We'll see
I'm getting lost in this video, every time there is a video of ink I enjoy your teaching lessons you give. Thank you for this topic, it was highly requested for real girl. Can you help me/us know, when artist working on their drawings and paints of their artwork, what defines things like 'title', 'description' and other listed things that are describing art, I'm trying to figure how one artist desires to understand these things, hope I'm clear to where I am getting at? Tips and guides of how to question the output of creating last impression that you aim to draw in your audience to feel your art including what draws in researching this things, to do homework to learn about. Much appreciate how you explain this artistry teachings and honestly I love going back to all the videos you created years back and a nice to watch again.❤❤❤❤❤
I always find it interesting how artists approach their drawings differently. I always start with the eyes and build from there - love the vid. New fan from Denmark 😊🇩🇰
Of all the people on you tube there are only a handful able to create a sketch on video without preparing a traced line art ahead of time, and that is Jess, Steve Mitchel from the Mind of Watercolor, Slew and Darry Tank, all others are only here to suck up our time for useless videos while only being swatch-artists. I like that Jess practices all the essentials constantly, figure drawing, portraiture, watercolor, pen, ink, pencils pretty much all mediums. I enjoy watching her.
This is the exact video I’ve been wanting from you! I’ve always been so impressed with your confidence in mark making so it was great to hear your thoughts on it. Your drawing turned out beautifully 🖤
I’ve learnt so much and I’m definitely going to get more confident in ink and pen because I’ve always loved it but never really gotten the right techniques ❤️Thank you for the tips ❤
Sooo inspiring, i ve to learn a lot from you for my Channel. Not only from an artistic point of view, but also for the storytelling, narration and cinematography. Suuuper High quality, you rock girl 🎉🎉🎉
Beautiful work! I love the depth of different character types you create. Do you improvise and pull them from imagination, from the experience of having drawn so many faces, or do you collect and use reference images too? Really love the look of the dark ink and the fine brush lines. Love how this one came out.
whenever i draw, i always make cuboid or rectangle shape first for the head, then work on the body… the head will be the last thing i draw because that’s is my favorite part to draw.
Where did you find your reference photos for each of these drawings?! They’re wonderful!! I too love pen & ink- so basic yet so outstanding to view! Thanks!
Mentally and psychically engaging, but physiologically rolling me in, as well. I kept getting pulled out of the eye-dancing captivation of watching movement in lines, Because my body would bounce me out, demanding I be a tie-breaker!!! : my cheeks wanting to beam, but my jaw wanting to drop at the same time. 😂❤ (surprisingly hard to do simultaneously, it turns out 😊😮) !! Watching these drawings is so viscerally fun. Beautiful work ❤❤❤
Hi Jess 🙂 I love going back to your videos for inspiration. I was curious, and I don't know if anyone asked this in the hundreds of comments before, lol, but how long did it take you to start and complete that drawing? I've been teaching myself drawing, and I just want to understand that even for skilled, master (yes I think so) artists like you how long should I as a novice expect to take when drawing something as detailed. It might help me gauge where I'm at, besides looking at how well my drawing is or isn't done. Hehehe. Anyway, thank you for all you do.
Hi Jess! I love your videos!! I really think that you should make a video that explains your portrait drawing process! Or a video about capturing a likeness of a person! I’m 12 years old and I really benefit from your videos, but I can never get my proportions right, any tips?

@@artofjesskarp I just ordered the supplies you mentioned in this video. Can’t wait to try them out in my own sketchbook!
Drawing in pencil is tedious because of the fading and repetitive factor. Ink is more restrictive but less time consuming and shows up well
A lot of art teachers emphasize you should draw with mediums you cannot erase and i think this is the way, because you will never learn your mistakes if you erase it.
The composition was just beautiful!!...The way you connect the different components of the illustrations always amazes me!!
Thank you very much!
You just drew faces from nothing with amazing proportions and rendering 😱 incredible 🤩

Wow. The quality of your sketch work is really fantastic. I really do like your bold style.

Great video. I enjoyed watching you create your delightful sketches, but I also felt there was a lot of information for me to take away, think about and try in my sketches. Thank you.
I love your sketches...glad that i stumbled upon this video, you made me more confident and motivated. 🤗😻
I love those Pentel microbrush pens. Lot more control than the bigger brushes.
Thank you!! I do too
Wow this is so Amazing!!! I Love Ink Drawing and know how difficult it is! Thanks for sharing!!!
Thank you so much 😀

Such a great video! Thank you for sharing your tips - now I am eager to bust out my ink pens to play with today!
Thank you! Go for it!!!
Really beautiful sketches, it always amazes me how some artists can nail proportions first time, I'm not sure thats something that can be learnt.

Love your ink faces/drawings!!!
Thanks
Amazing Art Skills! Love the content, keep up the good work. I like to draw in ink only myself, I like the challenge. Cheers!! 🍻
this reminds i need to get out my brush pen more. its actually freeing when drawing knowing you have to work with any mistakes you make 🙃
Hey jess ❤, your paintings drawings are crazy, please open some of your courses to teach how to draw and paint
You inspire me so much! Thank you for the beautiful content you create. I hope to build a similarly inspiring world with my work. ❤

Thanks! I like royalty free websites or Pinterest but just for practice. Better to use unsplash or pexels free photos
Amazing sketches I wonder what pen did you use to make them
Mentally and psychically engaging, but physiologically rolling me in, as well.

When you made these drawings are you using a reference photo? Great job !
Yes, thank you!
Hi Jess!
I love your videos!! I really think that you should make a video that explains your portrait drawing process! Or a video about capturing a likeness of a person!
I’m 12 years old and I really benefit from your videos, but I can never get my proportions right, any tips?
Did you use reference for these faces? Thanks for sharing. Amazing art.
