When was the last time you played? There have been games that I used to think were IMPOSSIBLE, until I went and played them much later and found them to be so much easier than I remembered.
I’d agree with Glenn’s sentiment tho - the game’s controls were tricky to learn but once mastered it made formerly hairpulling manuevers second nature. I remember this being on the cover of NP and being pretty hyped for it. I think it was like the fourth game we got after Star Fox, Shadows of the Empire, and Kart.
I got this game at blockbuster once as a little kid. I wanted to rent a power rangers game and I got the power rangers case but this game was in it instead. I was soo angry at first, but when i got to play as the giant Robot I was starting to get into it. I never knew the name of this game up until now watching this video. so thank you cause the name of this game has been haunting me for years and now I know it's Blast Core. (lol I just wanted to tell my little story)
I thought the length of the single player was fine. You can definitely plow through only the main story pretty quickly if you want, but there is a quite a lot after that. The fact that you described the game as easy and some of the stuff as being an "option" kind of makes me wonder if you really played the entire game. You never mentioned things like the levels where you go to different planets or trying to get all the platinum medals, which kind of makes this one of the most difficult games that Rare has ever made.
You've motivated me to play this game again after more than 5 years of not playing it! So fucking awesome to see part of my childhood beign restored in a simple video.
MayRey It'd be on xbox one since it's made by Rare but yes a sequal would be nice. You can play the original on Rare Replay for the xbox one if you'd like.
I've had this game in the back of my mind for almost 2 decades and i completely forgot what it was called. This game was so much fun when i was a kid. I need to play this again.
I don't even think the game designers intended you to 100% complete the game. After gathering enough platinum medals (¿maybe 80+%?) your rank becomes "you can stop now" indicating that you are done. But even getting to that stage is an achievement.
I just put this game into my N64 today and it's still fun. I do really wish we'd get another game like this. Not only did Rare not make a sequel but I'm surprised there hasn't really been any similar games on console.
I don't understand how you thought this game was easy. I remember it being so hard and frustrating that I quit playing it. I could never get that dump truck to do the side swipe drifty thing right. I've always thought about going back to see if I could complete it but never did yet.
I've been looking for the name of this game forever! Thank you for doing a review. I have always been bad at games but I loved just destorying buildings and trying to beat it!
I remember this game took me a year to beat. I actually have a fiscal copy and I'm also glad this is on the Rare collection for the Xbox one. I really love this game. The only problem is getting used to the sometimes floaty controls but other than that a solid title all around. C-hop's rateing 8/10.
Just discovered your channel, this game was amazing. It was so hard trying to nail all the platinum medals and send your screenshots (actual developed photo) into official Nintendo magazine.
I remember this was one of the first N64 games I've received along with Mario Kart 64 & Super Mario 64. I loved this game when I was younger. I still do. I remembered never being able to do 2 of the hardest levels until I got it back this summer. I finally beat the game & I still enjoyed every moment replaying this game after so many years.
I'm so glad I was able to have this game growing years ago. I rememeber getting all platinum metals and going to moon, mercury and Mars. Addicting gameplay, good music and awesome graphics. I also rememeber me and friends seeing the early game screenshots in game mags back in '96 thinking the robots were the construction equipment transformed as part of the game expanding alternate gameplay. How cool would that have been, to transform on the fly to get the mission complete. Great review as always.
Fantastic game. I remember playing the hell out of this game, getting Platinum medals on every little stage and bonus stage (didn't the stages repeat too, so you had to do it twice? my memory is off). It was crazy.
Rare replay really does this game justice, I am blown away with the clarity and crispness of the graphics. Before, there were some levels that I couldn't work out how to do because the pathway I needed to run down blended in with the background too much.
This is one of the best N64 games and I definitely agree it was a hidden gem. Rumors of the N64 Classic coming out this year, if Nintendo is able to work out a deal with Microsoft and Rare, I'd love to see this game be included as part of the N64 Classic. I'm also sad that Rare never made a sequel to this game, and the premise was incredibly unique and the game was a ton of fun. This video brings back great memories for me when I was a teenager.
I think the difficulty balance is just right for this game and getting all the lights on the levels gave loads of replay value, it also gets wonderfully mental at the end when you end up on different planets!
Blast Corps is such an GREAT classic game, i have so many fond memories of this unique game that RARE made, Blast Corps was so ahead for its time in 1997!
An oldie, but definitely one of my favorites. :) Got this one with my N64, so it was the first game I played. Fond memories with this one. Seriously, though, absolutely loving the videos you upload. This was a well-picked subscription. Cheers! :)

Great review Glenn :) I remember when blast corps was first released I renting it every weekend for a month trying to complete it, I dont think I ever did, but destroying everything in sight never got old completely forgot about this game till i clicked on your vid :)
I was so excited for this game to be released and at the time it did not disappoint it's still badass looking I wonder if playing it would feel the same today
I remember that after finishing the final level (Moon) in the text that followed was something about that the blast corp company will be going back to its roots of military vehicles or something like that. So a sequel was definitely planned and was going to be most probably tanks and heavy military vehicles . My best guess is that Rare simply didnt had the time to make one more game with all of the other projects and rushing starfox from n64 to gamecube probably robbed them from their time . After that, it just got too cold and no need to revive .
i think I was 6 when II played this. I'm 28 now. I could never remember the name and someone made a facebook post about it which led me here. Holy crap. This must have been one of the first games I ever played. Bomberman 64 was the first.
Talk about judging a book by its cover. From the box I thought it was a Vectorman type game. I'll have to give this one a go. Great review as always GP! Maybe Rocket could get the Glenntendo treatment next?
This game always got great reviews but when I tried it as a young teen I don't think I really 'got it', however having recently acquired it as an adult I think it's great!
I remember getting this game and having to immediately go out to dinner with extended family. Not one minute of that dinner was I not thinking about Blast corps. Longest dinner of my life.
My friend and I were obsessed with this game back in the day. We spent hours upon (frustrating) hours playing it until we eventually got platinum on all levels, which was very frustratingly difficult. I remember wondering what the hell the reward could have been for getting platinum on all levels... I thought it was going to give us the meaning of life or give us bank account information to an account with millions of dollars in it... or SOMETHING good along those lines. NOPE! All it said was “congrats! Thanks for playing!” .... :/
When i was a little kid my paresnt split up and i'd spend every other weekend and every Wednesday i'd spend the night with my mom. I had an N64 there and we'd rent a movie and a game whenever I was there, we'd watch the movie together and i'd paly the game late at night and early in the morning. This channel brings back alot of memories of these old games and alot of forgotten memories of my childhood :3
Getting platinums in damn blast corps is one of the craziest things of all time… this gameplay looks like some stuff from the first hour as you’re learning to play, but my goodness trying to get golds… and then platinum are truly insane…
the last "promotion" rank you can get is called "you can stop now", it's not hard to understand why they put that there after you got all those platinums, it's really time to stop and try playing another game after something like that :p
I don't recall playing any of the main game as a kid. I just remember spending a ton of time exploring the levels without the threat of a bomb blowing everything up.
I remember itching to play it all release week, but all I had time to do was pick up the pre-order. I spent the first 18 or so hours of the weekend on a heroin-like binge though, and it wouldn't be the 1st. I loved how Rare dealt w/the N64's quirks like the ridiculously limited texture space...I think a lot of other devs knew the totality of what they'd pulled off. They used the intricacies of the tech as part of the artistic expression (another ex. of that: the original Parappa for PSX), and the result was a clean, funky visual vibe on a fuzzy CRT that my eyes just ate up. Add in great level design, insanely fun controls and physics, continuously fresh variety, and a wacked out soundtrack and it's one of my fav game experiences. Wait...less than 6 months later they pumped out Goldeneye? NUTS
Looks like an amazing game, I'm definitely was going to try and play it! Someone is offering this one with a bunch of other games and a Pikachu edition n64 for sale here in Berlin. Thanks for the great reviews,I just subscribed🙂
Glad I'm not alone in pronouncing it Blast "Corpse". Obviously I now know it's 'core' but my friends and I didn't know any better at the time and it's been Blast Corpse ever since. Think it might be a UK/Ireland thing actually. Everyone I know also calls it Blast Corpse while I imagine in the States it had always been Core since they would have heard the word growing up from being used in the term Marine Corps etc.
+N64 Glenn Plant What game are you talking about? I looked on GameStop's website and didn't see anything called "30 for 30". Is this game released on another system as well, or because they're Rare games, Microsoft has the exclusive? Could you give me the exact title of this game in the States? -- I enjoy watching your pithy, but informative N64 reviews.
+Nuno Schmidt I think I found it, "Rare Replay", and it is an XBox One Exclusive...too bad, as I have no interest , right now in upgrading my 360 to a One. I'd much rather own a PS4. Though I'll probably get one.
Yeah it's really cool having your memeory jump started by a vid, like when I read the name of this I was like how do I know that name? then 2 seconds in I was like "Oh Yeah!" ;) Great vid as always Glenn :)
I quite like this game, called Blast Dozer in Japan I do believe, don't have the cart on hand at the moment. It's really very fun, but it didn't last all that long. I still enjoy going back to it for a quick bit of fun from time to time though.
Amazing game. The difficulty was pretty good wasn't at all impossible to beat. An 11 year old me beat it and loved the game. Sideswipe was a bit hard to control but inspired me to build some crazy stuff in crossout. Was fun to go back through and beat it again and get all the bonus stuff too.
I loved this game. My mum and dad brought it for me for my birthday and at first I was thinking “oh no” because they didn’t have a clue about what games I liked or disliked. I wouldn’t have chosen it left to my self. But I was pleasantly surprised once I got into it and then came to love it and yes it’s very addictive lol
Unbelievably, I have the intro screen playing as I type this.. on Nintendo Switch Online. Thank you Nintendo & Rare/Microsoft for getting this on the Switch. :) Blast Corps was my 4th N64 game in 1998.
Now that I own Rare Replay on XBOX ONE I'm going to give this game a try, I never had a Nintendo magazine subscription so I never knew when new games came out and only went off what was on the shelves and cover art.
The reason some games were so short and easy was due to game rental being a thing back then. Blockbuster every weekend with my dad and brother spending our allowance.
Could you please consider doing a shadow man reveiw in the future? I love both the game and your content and I think that it would be a great way to introduce the game to a larger audience.
One of the most unique games I've ever played, and definitely one of the best in my book. It's a shame that nothing came out of this game though, and is probably the most underrated game on the N64. The difficulty varied, but some levels would make me bash my head against the wall due to failing it over and over again. And the sound track? Very "funky" and unique as well. Graeme Norgate never disappoints. This game is still awesome to this day. Though multiplayer would have been awesome.
Easy, you call that easy!? This game was great fun, but it drove me INSANE with its difficulty!
I could never beat that final board where the only vehicle was backlash
When was the last time you played? There have been games that I used to think were IMPOSSIBLE, until I went and played them much later and found them to be so much easier than I remembered.
Given up because of backlash. Even the walkthroughs on RUclips have trouble with it!
I can confirm, it's not an easy game
Hearing the music in the beginning made me tear up with nostalgia.
***** glad i could ...in some way...bring back awesome memories :) thats what its all about at the end of the day :)
***** That's awesome! Only music brings me back to my childhood the way video games do but VGs are way more powerful for me.

That was a happy accident :)
this game needs to make a come back... one of the best games EVER

I tried very hard trying to get as many of the platinum medals as possible...it was a thorough challenge and very rewarding.
I've only ever heard of one person getting all the platinum medals
You've motivated me to play this game again after more than 5 years of not playing it! So fucking awesome to see part of my childhood beign restored in a simple video.
There NEEDS to be a sequal to this game. I don't care what console it's on, Wii U, PS4, Xboxone, I'm getting all 3 so it doesn't matter.
+Transgamer its a rare game so unfortunately won't happen
MayRey It'd be on xbox one since it's made by Rare but yes a sequal would be nice. You can play the original on Rare Replay for the xbox one if you'd like.
I've had this game in the back of my mind for almost 2 decades and i completely forgot what it was called. This game was so much fun when i was a kid. I need to play this again.
Always love when that happens!
Well, it's on the Nintendo Switch via Switch Online + Expansion Pack.
All the opportunity to try get 100%. 😉👍
when i was a kid i was obsessed with this game, i would stay home from school pretending to be ill just to play this lol
This game was so hard. Unlocked the planets at the end but a 100& wasnt possible for me to do.
I don't even think the game designers intended you to 100% complete the game. After gathering enough platinum medals (¿maybe 80+%?) your rank becomes "you can stop now" indicating that you are done.

Pimpalicious1987 yeah its weird, its such a unique and cool game - its prime for a sequel
I still have this game too, I loved it. Watching this makes me want to play it again :)
It is really strange that no company has made a modern game like this with all the ability they have now with graphics, physics etc.
Destroy everythings or the Nukes destroy everythings.
Thats the Story

palomdude I quit because that F truck
dario HC F that truck
It depends on what kind of games you are good at really. It can be difficult for me at times too.
So we all agree fuck the backlash lol
You have to destroy everything, or else the nuke destroys everything... Wait..
+Sarah Connor haha video game logic hey
I've been looking for the name of this game forever! Thank you for doing a review. I have always been bad at games but I loved just destorying buildings and trying to beat it!

Do it twice if you want double platinum medals
Rare replay really does this game justice, I am blown away with the clarity and crispness of the graphics. Before, there were some levels that I couldn't work out how to do because the pathway I needed to run down blended in with the background too much.

Super_Captain_N Fucking War Gods!
Even the cartridge on the front cover of the game seems so nostalgic.
It took me so long to track down what this game was called. Thanks for the review 👍🏻
J Bomb was also my favourite craft. Just being able to fly and bring down everything with a single button press was awesome.
yeah i too loved that!
This was the very first n 64 game I ever played and I love the visuals of the explosions even today .
I recently wipe my cart and spent a day blasting though the game again. Really great concept that I would love to see revisited as a modern game.
I had a great time as a kid figuring out all the secrets and the best paths through each level. I don't know if I ever 100 percented Blast Corps as it was had.

I played this when I was 4 and had so much fun. :) So much nostalgia.
And soon it'll be in Xbox one too
Yeah it's really cool having your memeory jump started by a vid, like when I read the name of this I was like how do I know that name? then 2 seconds in I was like "Oh Yeah!" ;) Great vid as always Glenn :)
Yeah getting platinum on all is certainly a challenge, maybe golds is more reasonable
Doesn't anybody else notice the generational leap from like a 2d Mario 3 game to this 3D masterpiece❤
The theme to this game is so nostalgic it hurts
I miss this game so much, one of the best on the n64, havnt seem something like it since.
during the days of the n64 i always underestimate this title, 10 years later i tested and discovered the damn game is so addictive.
Now that I own Rare Replay on XBOX ONE I'm going to give this game a try, I never had a Nintendo magazine subscription so I never knew when new games came out and only went off what was on the shelves and cover art.
The reason some games were so short and easy was due to game rental being a thing back then. Blockbuster every weekend with my dad and brother spending our allowance.
loved this game, still have it
Love this game. Still have it and haven't finished it yet (don't play games that much).
This game is excellent. I never played it as a child but I picked it up a few months ago and I loved it.
Really great review, mate. In-depth with some great insight. I may have to opt for a Japanese copy of this game ;-)
I remember this game had a really strange save system where it would save files to the console's memory. I also had a hard time erasing my save file.
It saves to the cart 👍
this game doesn't get enough love from the Retro community. I fuckin loved it as a kid, wish I could play it again now........
Though multiplayer would have been awesome.
all time favorite game of my childhood, this and that game where you play as cars with guns and drive around survive
I actually remember the music in the game the most fondly. Maybe because it sounded novel to me in the states.
