- Escape Or Die Trying (often simply known as O.D.T.), is a video game created by Psygnosis for the PlayStation and PC and was complete but cancelled for Nintendo 64. It's a 3D action adventure, with some RPG like elements such as character building. Playing as 1 of 4 characters with more to unlock, your goal is to explore the “Forbidden Zone” to look for gas canisters to repair your airship which was attacked and crash lands on an alien planet.

Glenn N64 will one day have to review himself since he's become such an icon of all things N64... truly the moment that will break the internet
Haha that would actually be quite funny, maybe April fools day
I bet he's a blocky person in real life. He plays all these N64 games because they look more like him than modern games do.
@@dopplegangerdavid haha - if you’re curious I’ve been on camera a load of times earlier in the channel history
A new video from Glenn is always a good start to the weekend!
Thanks man that’s appreciated
Last time I was this early, N64 magazine was still in print
That's why your boyfriend calls you Minuteman.
@@Sandman_Slim thank you for calling out this old and tired meme comment so I don't have to.
@@Sandman_Slim hey! You're a silly goose!! 🪿
Haha now that’s been a while!
You’re one of my favorites on RUclips and it is great every time you upload! With your knowledge and research you do in every episode, you should really consider doing an N64 book sir!
Perfect timing for nostalgic millennials AND you’re actually a fan who has played the games unlike the other gentleman who just released a book.
Merry Christmas!
Glad you like them! No plans to do a book as not really my thing - plus I did write the foreword for the n64 anthology by geeksline books so I consider that to be the perfect n64 book
This look like a game I would have loved if these was released in the N64. It's not groundbreaking but it looks interesting.
Yeah it’s a cool concept that’s done fairly well, with proper analogue controls it should be better
I don't know if this was objectively a good game, but I really loved it on playstation as a kid. I would always get the name wrong, saying "Escape, or try dying" Lmao, and I did die a lot. I think I managed to finish it eventually though!
Haha that name has a ring to it
For whatever reason, this game has always fascinated me.
Had it on the PS1 but could never finish it as it was too difficult.
However, played it to completion later in life on Duckstation using save states.
Loved it. Later, got the N64 rom and played it to the end again on my Nvidia Shield via a N64 emulator. Honestly, the N64 version is the best one, even though it doesn’t have the FMV sequences.
I absolutely recommend this game to any Action RPG / Adventure games fan, but only via emulation as save states make the game way more enjoyable and less frustrating.
Thanks for the review, Glenn.
Or use the cheats for the n64 version to boost your character and it makes the combat much easier
@
Yep, did that too on the PS1 but still died one too many times in platforming sequences, environmental traps, and some boss battles.😅
What is a duckstation?? Is that the name of a ps1 emulator perhaps? I'm not very familiar with ps1 emulation 😅
Love you sharing your experience/memories with this game though!
Never heard of this game as an unreleased game. Thanks for sharing!
Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for the uploads Glenn!
Glad you like them!
This one is definitely new to me and sounds right up my alley. Thanks for the early present and Merry Christmas.
Happy holidays!
I played the Prototype roms and they even carried over the XP glitch into the N64 version, its also interesting to know that the Music randomizes itself after a certain time, which i dont think is a thing with the Playstation release.
The cheats work on n64 too so a good idea just to max weapons and blast away ha
Merry Christmas, Glenn Plant! Here’s hoping your holiday season is as legendary as an N64 GoldenEye multiplayer match-packed with nostalgia, good vibes, and just the right amount of chaos!
Thanks, you too!
Anyone else happy that they announced a new Turok game?
What ? 😮
I'm cautiously optimistic, I think it could turn out fantastic but I'm worried it'll feel too generic/bland. Same worry I have for the new Perfect Dark, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not still hyped as hell!
Turok: Evolution was brilliant on GameCube, a real masterpiece in my opinion
@64-Bit-Gamer I hadn't played it for the GC. But I got it on PS2 and it felt like a step back from the N64 titles.. 🤷
@@64-Bit-Gamer look at reviews then and now of Turok Evolution. It's awful, killed the series and a company.
Wow, I never knew there was a complete ROM out there of this. Gonna check it out now!
I couldn't care less. I don't even like vode games.
Hope you enjoy it, it’s an acquired taste but definitely worth checking out
Ya know what....I had no idea this game existed. Completely passed me by (and I thought I was an N64 'expert'!).
Always enjoyable finding something new hey!
I'd call this an early Christmas surprise, unless you have a video dropping around that time. If not, have a guud rest of the year, and happy new years!
Happy holidays! Maybe one more I’ll see how I hold up
It's great this made it in to the wild. I wonder how many games are out there still hidden away.
Always surprised we still get new finds all these years later
Never heard about this game until now. Good video. You want to know what I use do when I go to high school?
Sure
@n64glennplant when I used to go high school I used to bring my n64 to play with my friends.
If this game was released for the N64, I'd love having it in my collection.
You could always get a repro with box etc
Psygnosis situation was rather odd.
As a first/second -party SONY -studio, i think we should be grateful that we actually got something from them on N64.
-So enjoy, Or Die Trying.
Haha that should be the sequel!
Thanks for the video Glenn, I didn't know about this game beforehand, could be worth a blast.
Hope you check it out and enjoy it
Never heard of this one. Sounds cool. Can't wait to check it out eventually.
Maybe it's a superficial comparison, but it makes sense to me that you'd dig this game, as it seems to share some qualities with Shadowman as well -- even if Shadowman is more focused on action/combat. From the other comments, it looks like perhaps I'm not the only one to make this observation 😅.
Hope your new year is off to a great start, Glenn.
Ohhhhh "Chaos Engine!" Had to look that up -- we called it Soldiers of Fortune in the US! Only ever played it on the Sega Genesis, but I think it was on snes too. Great game!
Now let’s hope that the new shadowman game is 🔥 - I’m not hopeful but we can only dresm
Never knew about this game being on N64. Will have to check it out, thanks for the insight Glenn.
And thanks for watching Jonathan!
Still watching Glenn 64 thanks for your efforts 😁
And thanks for watching!
Totally forgot this excited. Nice video, as always!
Thanks!
I would love this game as a kid.
What part interests you the most?
O.D.T on N64 deserves more recognition!!
I think so too
This interests me. I'm gonna play it.... soon. Right now I'm trying to get GoldenEye and Perfect Dark running on my PC.
Enjoy them all!
I remember reading about this in Nintendo Power!
N64 magazine for me
Thank you for the great content this year and I hope that you have a great Christmas. N64 forever :)
BTW: Do you use Adobe After Effects for your animated video intros? I'd like to learn how to do something similar to make my non-gaming videos for RUclips look more polished.
Yup
This is yet another title that I I thought looked pretty cool when I saw it in Nintendo Power. (Man, that magazine was a great marketing tool. Too bad for Nintendo that my parents weren't buying any brand-new N64 games for me!) I picked it up on PC not long ago, and from the little bit that I played, I'm liking the setting. Just not so sure about the clunky Tomb Raider platforming, though. Guess we'll see!
Yeah it’s a shame it didn’t at least get proper analogue controls for n64 which would make a world of difference
Its been a long time since ive heard that intro ❤
That’s when real ones know they’re getting old haha
Those controls look rough 😆
I bought a CRT TV yesterday, I don't remember N64 looking this rough back in the day lol. But emulation is really hit n miss with performance and accuracy with controls etc.
I'm also realising there aren't actually that many good N64 games. Beyond nostalgia, it's slim pickings. Obviously we have the absolute classics, and they'll always be great, but the lesser known titles are usually pretty mediocre.
Nice crt pick up! I don’t use emulation myself so can’t be of much help with settings or performance etc but I’m sure someone will be able to help
This N64 game looks decent to be fair, Especially for 1998. I've got lost in Turok 2 so this can't be as bad as that. I quite like dungeon/adventure games once I get into them provided that the game cameras aren't messed-up and the gameplay is solid.
Are you a Diablo fan too?
@@n64glennplant I think I have Diablo 3 on the Xbox 360 but I haven't played it yet as I have a lot of games. ODT reminds me of Shadowman & Castlevania mixed with elements from another N64 games. ODT would've needed the Expansion Pak to clean-up the textures. I think ODT would've reviewed well if it came out before Turok 2 & Zelda in 1998.
Hi Glenn! Hi Gamers!
Hey all!
Woha :O A new kinda INtro, how cool is that :D The perfect Friday evening Video here :D
It’s actually the old n64 beta project intro - first used over a decade ago now I’m that old ha
@@n64glennplant :D
I have it on PC and it is one of my favourite 90s games.
Good man, I feel it’s far from perfect but very underrated for how good it is
Glenn needs to be given the rights to N64 magazine at this stage - it’s only fair.
Haha I’d love to get the old writers lot together for a one off special
@ That would be stellar.
Retro Gamer had a one-off special issue of Super Play a free years back. An N64 Magazine special issue could be a goer if you got crowd-funding for such a venture.
This looks really good actually on 64 I'd like to see a company like night dive re-release this using this engine!
I've always wanted to play this despite having an N64 after seeing ads of it in EGM.
Looks like its time to dust off the 'ol little black box...
Hope you enjoy it!
It looks good.
I think so too
Reminds me of Shadow Man and Aidyn Chronicles combined.. 😵💫🙂
I see what you’re saying, let’s hope the new shadowman is a winner
@@n64glennplant new shadow man ? 🤔
@ yeah been delayed but it’s in production
@n64glennplant 😮 I didn't know. So I guess it'll be the third in the series.. 🤔
And Glenn ole boy, speaking of which.. when r u going to review Aidyn Chronicles.. ? 😁🤔
It's definitely unique looking but it does seem a bit lacking. I can kind of see why they weren't to dead set on releasing this one.
It’s actually paced quite well aside from moments when you get stuck
@n64glennplant if that's the case I might have to look into giving it a try.
I have an alpha version of Doom 64 that is a lot like the final game but there are some interesting differences that I can point out for an episode down the line maybe!
Yeah that would be cool! Now if you can get hexen 2 running on n64 please
@@n64glennplant Maybe one day! :D
Looks like the type of game that would have been great in between the really big titles.
Yeah a great upper end filler
Cool first time seeing this one as I was 6 near the end of the n64s life. What other games should I know about.
Check out my channel playlists I’ve covered nearly all games by this point
@n64glennplant will do, thanks!
I've tried it a few times but I end up getting totally lost. I'll have to give it another go!
Funnily enough the start of the game is easier to get lost in compared to the later levels
Never heard of this game, but it looks very cool!
Hope you find some time to try it and see what you think!
Glenn, will you ever finish the Turok 2: Remastered livestream? You were sooooo close to finishing the game.
Haha I’ll probably do a full run, my health dipped before the final parts so had to break it
I've hated Sony since the PS3 CMOS issue was NEVER fixed. 🤨.
Shame, I don’t hate them just find much after ps2 era to be dull
I would totally check this game out.. 🤔
Hope you do!
I played it on ps1, i thought it was a turd personally but there is a following for the game for sure.
Yeah it’s the setting which I think either grips people to complete it or make people dislike it
It reminds me of Duke Nukem Zero Hour. Im gonna try it out.
Less action and more puzzles but yeah both good third person shooter style
ODT was so fun but so unforgiving...
Yeah tough as nails in parts
I really wish they would have released this game back then on 64, i didn’t have PS1 at the time. I remember seeing this game online some years back and thought it looked pretty well made and i liked the animations of the characters.
Yeah the wide range of characters is definitely a plus
ODT came out at the same time as I got my first Playstation and I wanted it so bad ! I thought it looked super cool in the magazines. I never ended up getting it unfortunately, but it's stayed a personally meaningful game for that reason. I had no idea there was an N64 port that was 100% complete and never released, that's whack.
Living in France at the time this game got quite some coverage. There was a sense that France could have its own video game industry. Unfortunately it never really came to be.
Hope you finally get to check it out!
Castlevania 64 but good
Castlevania is probably more fun but atmosphere wise I prefer sci fi over gothic horror
They didn't try very hard to get this released.
Kinda hard when they became Sonys property
Can u opt for the d-pad instead of the controller stick ?
Can’t remember off the top of my head but assume it’s probably possible given it’s a dpad game converted to n64
looks very cool
Worth checking out
I’ve been thinking of you the instant I saw Turok Origins has been confirmed at The Game Awards. I didn’t expect the series to come back! 😮 Though, the last time I checked, isn’t the game supposed to be a first-person shooter just like the previous instalments? 🤔
I have mixed feelings on it too!
NEW GLENN DROP NEW GLENN DROP
👍
Tried it on pc and the controls feel so clunky - your almost trading blows with every mob.
Making it feel like turnbased combat :D
Yeah it’s very weird almost tank controls but there’s not too many times you get swamped with enemies so it becomes manageable
Game looks terrible for a 98 N64 game.
For a third party game for 98 I think the scope etc looks decent considering it’s a port of a ps1 title and not built from the ground up for n64
