Star Wars Shadows Of The Empire review on the nintendo 64. Recorded using a dazzle and on original real console hardware and game cartridge. - Игры
I liked Dash Rendar.
I like turtles
I like Goku.
i did too man, 4 years late...i dont care. u are not alone.
Dash Rendar is pretty cool and went through so much like the sewer mission... Damn lol
Should have been a Star Wars spin off movie on this character.
I got this and Mario 64 with my N64 and couldn't have been happier. This was a fantastic game and I feel really bad whenever people bash it :(
nsignific its a fun game, when you consider that it was a launch title its exactly what every launch title should do, offer something that couldn't be done on the previous generation and show off some raw power :)
this was among my first shooters ever. It was this, Godeneye, and Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. This is a good game, but needless to say it didn`t see much play time against the others (IMO some of the best shooters of all time..) I was only able to game on the weekends so I had to make some tough calls heh
+MadMax052 I totally get that, but I played it at launch and there wasn't much else available :)
i got this with goldeneye 007 for my 16th birthday.
The Wampas scared me so much when i was a child. xD
wow this game was one of my all times favorites, didnt know people hated it
I liked it myself as a kid.
It has a lot of issues, namely the controls.
it was hard. the controls were a little awkward at first but easy to get used to. people don't like to admit a games just too hard so they act like there's just no getting used to the controls.
I still love it. Look.. you can find people to hate anything. I myself hate paper mario and mystical ninja goemon as well as pokemon games.. all games that people absolutely love.. so even I'm a hater.. who LOVES this game.
@@shaun8062 hey thanks for the reply, forgot I even commented on this video 4 years ago, where does the fucking time go? 2016 seems like a decade ago bro!
Shadows Of The Empire is still one of my favorite Star Wars games!
wait till the next episode tomorrow! thats my fav :)
"Dash Rendar, a poor man's Han Solo" ?? no wonder i liked him so much! and the Outrider too!!
Yea, I wasnt a fan of that epithet. Surely there is room for more than ine smuggler in a galaxy? Hes not supposed to be a fully fleshed out character.
At the time I played this on my N64 I don't believe I even ever had internet access.... so I had no idea people disliked it so much. I love the game, and along with rogue squadron, supermario 64, Golden eye and perfect dark, they were some of my fondest memories of gaming growing up.
I was around 50 years old when it came out, my best memories too!
it was popular when it came out - i don't know anyone who didn't like it - all of these complaints are modern complaints and people judge it based on how video games play NOW - i used to play it over and over and over back in the day
I don't believe I ever paid attention to reviews as a kid either I didn't know you could look up reviews with the internet so I didn't care.
Back then... not everyone felt compelled to share every opinion and every hot take online. Opinions were expressed mostly on the playground and in the magazines.
Has anyone talked about the cheats for this game? You could play as a wampa, a snow trooper, and AT-ST and others! You could do all kinds of things like unlimited jetpack, super jump, wall ghost, all weapons. This is one of the best Star Wars games ever, making a top ten list for sure, maybe even top 5 and it doesn't even involve using The Force.
Entering the cheat was my favourite part haha it was so ridiculously complex, the way you had to manipulate your hands on the controller was hilarious. Worth it though for the awesome suite of cheats you'd be rewarded with.
WOMPA STOMPA
I remember using my nose to move the stick for the cheat
@@Nobbie248 works better for me using my lips lol
@@norrinradd2214 i have 4 brothers who played too so didn't want put my lips on it haha
You want my opinion of this game? Well, let me tell you, Glenn: This was another one that I missed out on as a kid. So, I found it at my local game store recently and bought it. Then I played it...
And I have to say that out of all the Star Wars games I have ever played, this was the first one that actually made me feel like I was in the Star Wars universe :) It's definitely become one of my newer favorites on the N64!
It's so cool to know people are experiencing some of my best loved games for the first time even now! That's why retro rocks :-)
*****
I agree 100% :)
@@n64glennplant agreed
This game is in the same league as the films it's based off. You seem to go through every aspect of Star Wars: fighting in Space, fighting on ground, suspense, pod racing, I could go on and on. The graphics are good, and about the best you'll get for when it came out, and for a cartridge. My favorite level was "Gail Spaceport," where you get your jetpack.
Interesting Trivia: during development of SOTE, the team at lucas arts found a way to get rid of the big black bars present on a lot PAL games and informed other Devs of it. So after that these were history.
haha awesome trivia...bumped!
Played this when I was 8 or 9. It is one of my fondest memories of that era of gaming.
Though after the first time I played the second level I could never play that one again. When I found the Wampa's in the cage, I was going to leave them in there. My dad was like "Psh, they are white wookies that the Empire imprisoned! You should let them out and they'll help you." I told him that I thought he was wrong... but being young I trusted him. So I did let them out... and they killed me. Scared the crap out of me! Dad thought it was funny -_- ... I always made him play that one for me after hah.
haha thats so funny see its memories like that which make me love doing this channel!
There's a cheat code for the game that allows you to play as a wampa
You know what I think? I think shadows of the Empire deserves a complete remake on the PS4 and or the Xbox one. That's what I think.
+hothmandon That'd be pretty cool, especially considering the latest Battlefront had zero single player value. We need a good story driven Star Wars game!
It deserves a remake on ANY platform not just PS4/XBONE. Gamers today act so narrowed minded...
Battlefront 2 release on Xbone and PS4...This deserves remastered on Switch and Wii U.
amen
Switch exclusive ;P
You know, seeing the footage here and remembering when this game released, I can't help but give this game credit for how ambitious it actually was.
Make no mistake, it's a relic by today's standards but when you examine the game in the context of mid to late 1996, and consider that it was a launch title for a very groundbreaking new system, it accomplished a hell of a lot. Forget the bad controls for a second; not only was this game developed before the n64 controller design was finalized, as was mentioned in a separate video on the subject, but celebrated games that came along later such as Goldeneye were not a whole lot better looking back. Fully 3D shooters like this were fairly new territory even on PC and practically nonexistent on home consoles. Not only that but they managed to squeeze in levels involving the flying combat, arcade style rail shooting from a turret, the swoop bike level and the jet pack mechanics; say what you want about the 3rd person action levels of the game but I feel that those were done very well for the time and added a lot of freshness to the game.
And this game-play variety hasn't been attempted a whole lot lately either which is a real shame, because as a kid this is really what I loved most about the game. A lot of the later Star Wars titles like the 3rd Rouge Squadron game on the GameCube, the later Jedi Knight series and the Force Unleashed have flirted with it a tad but we haven't seen it in a long time. This style really ought to come back, I think they could really use it to breathe some new life into aging game-play mechanics of games today.
I still remember finally beating this game with my little brother watching behind me in excitement haha i was probably 8 yrs old and he was six we had a blast playing it and now whenever i play it it seems easy but back in the day it was a fun little challenge. Oh how i miss the simple days haha
i was better at it as a kid, but mainly because i played it more than any other 64 game. i used to play this on the hsrdest difficulty and replaying it recently normal mode was decently challenging. this game is pretty challenging at first at requires some practice to get good, which is why it gets some hate. many gamers these days want to get past everything on the first try, and if they can't the controls suck or it has terrible level design, or whatever other excuses they come up with to cover up that they just suck at the game or don't have the small amount of patience required to improve at it.
Dash is still better than Jar Jar
I didn't mind Dash when playing this game.
One of my favorite N64 games, for sure. To this day I still remember sections of the sewers, jetpacking around the canyon, and flying through the Skyhook.
The on foot levels were actually my favorite part as a kid.
Shadows of the Empire > The Force Unleashed
Unless you count the Wii version. The Wii version of The Force Unleashed was the best Starwars game ever.
BLOODY__FATALITY I agree with this man
shadows and jedi outcast are my favorite star wars games. i also really enjoyed jedi power battles, especially the dreamcast version.
Loved this game, so must nostalgia. I loved the gritty graphics, I have fond memories of completing that train level for my little brothers :D
Truly amazing game. I've never seen the PC cut scenes but personally even then I thought that the comic based cut-scenes were really well done, unique and beautiful.
This was one of my very favorite games as a kid and I remember the first time I played it again as an adult, the haunting music and vivid aesthetics of these scenes, unlike anything else I really know of, was overwhelmingly nostalgic in a way that moved me. Not just some canned animation but a real work of art.
Well said.
Totally agreed. The smell of the N64, every little sound from the music to grunting when you take damage, that weapon loading like click when you pick up ammo. The textures and camera angles which you often have to fight the controls over lol. I remember how difficult and intimidating many parts were as a kid, the initial Hoth battle where you have to tie the AT up. Then the Wampa’s in the base and AT in the hangar, that was scary but more so the AT because it was so hard to beat. Boba Fett was so cool and hard to beat, but it made him feel accurate to the lore, a badass, and I remember being jealous that his jet pack was better that yours. And IG-88, I fell off those trains getting to him so many times lol, to face the stuff of nightmares, I mean those sounds he made and leaping at you to fry you with a flamethrower. Those two boss encounters stand out in my memory, the way they fit into the story and gameplay, difficulty and the sheer aesthetic effect, they were excellent.
More whining and complaining about levels being too long? The Gall Spaceport was an amazingly well designed level. Why does everyone think they should be able to beat a game on a single playthrough? This game was extremely challenging, with many secrets to unlock and memorable moments. The levels where you are on foot are minimally cumbersome until you get used to the controls. Why is everything such a major complaint? Take the time to actually get good at the game!
you should play the remastered version :)
I loved the Gall Spaceport - looking back, it was one of the longest but most immersive levels of any game of my childhood
Your right. This is a great game. And everyone stop wishing every game needs a remake. Most remakes are terrible.
One of the biggest let downs as a kid growing up was playing new games and beating them in a day or two. Never understood the appeal of games being really short.
Shadows is how games should be made! The amount of variety is astounding and Gall spaceport is my favourite leve!! And to contradict what he said about save points (why do we need save points anyway? Where’s the satisfaction and accomplishment) half way through the level when you first get the jet pack you complete the first stage, what more does he want? Long levels are value for money and personally the asteroid field is my least favourite mission.
Dash Rendar and Kyle Katarn would have been two character movies that would be fantastic. Two crazy awesome ships. Two distinctly unique characters. And two great stories. This is one of my personal favorite games for Nintendo 64.
Excellent video 👍 thanks for posting
I played this a bunch as a kid. I loved the train ride through the ship graveyard planet, I've always loved ruins and wrecks for some reason. I'm disappointed you didn't mention the seeker missiles with the built-in cameras. As a kid, those were the absolute height of hilarity.
Ah, one of my first N64 games that I owned. Great memories playing this game. I too thought it was Han Solo when I first played this as a kid. Then I saw Han at the end and was confused. lol
The first time I faced Boba Fett. *Boba Fett dies* "Oh that was easy" *Boba Fett's space craft appears* "Oh dear gawd!!"
haha yeah the first part of bobba took me long enough but when the ship came i was like go eff off! haha
This game is, in so many ways one of the best on N64. Compared to Goldeneye for instance it really still stands today. And oh man, the music and sound effects! Really really great game.
Spot on when you talked about the feeling of the first level. The bosses were so hard in this game, esp boba fett my god. Oh and who can forget the play-as-any-enemy cheat in level 2!
Those games that has low gameplay quality but high quality in atmosphere, I like those kinds of games for some reason.
Yeah I think I know what you mean and I too enjoy those
I saw this game in the late 1990s when my family was looking at houses to move into around Long Island, while we never did move out of the home I am still in now, I recall this one family having two TVs and two N64s, the one that I remember not being used had the Shadows of the Empire label on it and I wanted it bad, even though I knew nothing about it other than that it was Star Wars. I went to FuncoLand in Levittown, NY, found the cartridge with the label, and bought it.
I liked it a lot, I already had Rogue Squadron, but the on-foot levels in SotE were fun, even if the controls weren't perfect. They need to remaster this game for all consoles including PC. It had to be the second to last great multimedia chapter in Star Wars history. The stories and games that came out after Episode II were great, much more fun than the prequel and sequel trilogies themselves, and the first planned sequel trilogy isn't even done yet.
One of my favorite N64 game despite it's flaws!
It's strange, I never had that criticism of Dash Rendar, I liked him and to me, he definitely feels compatible with the Star Wars universe. Good game.
This is the 8th game I beat in my challenge to beat all NA N64 games (296). This is my favorite Star Wars game of all time, it let's play as every aspect of the Star Wars universe, except as a Jedi. I never had a problem with the on foot levels or the controls, just watch my playthrough, I 100% clear it on Jedi difficulty; I'll show you how it's done.
First Stars wars game I've played in my life memories. Such an underrated classic
Would love to see it get some new polish!
That IG-88 was a real bastard.
He did alot of dam up close!
When I first saw this game running it was mind blowing I went from my SNES to a full 3D star wars world along with Mario 64 and Turok. They were the days when you were blown away
Saw this vid the other day, and decided to give SOE another go. Got hooked up again instantly and this time I finally beated the Jedi difficulty (and you really feel like one after defeating the Gladiator on this mode). Im really surprised with the sense of achievement that I got after 18 years of its release! A must own N64 cartridge
Luca Moreno glad i could get you back into this! the rest of the star wars games on n64 are all worth playing too
I played this so much when I was a kid, absolutely loved this game!
What was your fav level
I liked the game a lot back in the day and have played through it countless times. While it might not be the best Star Wars game out there it was still very great and atmospheric and also never was repetative because of the variety of sections. As a matter of fact, I was always hoping for a reboot of the game Uncharted style for current gen consoles. That will always remain a dream though.^^
This game was so popular that it was impossible to find when it first came out. I remember calling gamestop and trying to reserve a copy around christmas, but to no avail. I think even after New Years it was still impossible to find.
Like you Glenn, this was one of my first N64 games, along with Diddy Kong racing. I was totally blown away by this game. I love the high level variety and the 3D graphics at the time were so gorgeous. Some people criticize the game harshly because who the hell knows who Dash Rendar is? I however, welcomed this new protagonist with praise - he's like a bad-ass Han Solo. I still play through this game periodically for nostalgia.
I can't think of a game more in-need of a remake than this one.
Would be sweet right
Yes! The flying sections were good, but the on-foot and speeder bike controls were awful.
I didn't have a N64 when this came out. A buddy of mine had one and had this game so he invited me over to play. I just sat there and watched cuz I was so blown away by the whole thing.
Dude as an avid n64 lover it's so nice to hear someone else talk about their nostalgia for n64 it's awesome! Keep it up
thanks the whole channel is n64 so you've come to the right place
I still have this game. I played it so much back then it was awesome.
Pc or n64 version?
N64 Glenn Plant N64.
this game introduced me to IG 88.....he was tough....
This was an amazing game and I think it was my first intro to Star Wars.
Rafael Galvão star wars is amazing, cant wait for the new movies!
I remember a lot of people not liking Dash Rendar but I never really cared I was too young to really understand why they didn't like him. I remember playing the Hoth level and thinking it was amazing. I wanted a game that was just the flying sections and then I got Rogue Squadron!!! it was like a dream come true. Back in the day Star Wars game always got made with a lot of care and attention. it was rare to get a bad game unlike today with Disney and EA. sad times. I am happy I lived through the golden age of Star Wars games 1997-2006 (start with Shadows of the Empire and ends in 2006 with Kotor 2)
I remember having to put in that crazy debug code where you have to hold down more than half the buttons on the controller and push the stick. I would use my nose for the stick. I looked like a crazy person.
+Walter Hunt This, I used my chin haha, it was so amazing when I finally entered it the first time, I thought it was just fake. Extremely difficult code to enter with loose n64 sticks (much easier if a friend was over).
I miss games with crazy cheats that are hard to find (and in this case hard to enter)
IMO the best Star Wars game on the console. I'm not a huge fan of the movies, but I do like the universe. And this definitely felt like I was part of the universe instead of just using some Star Wars themed stuff in Star Wars themed places. Episode 1: Racer also did a pretty good job with the universe immersion but I felt this one was just so in depth.
Your mention of Rebel Assault on the 3DO makes you a true gamer!
Love that game, ra2 tho wasn’t near as fun
Another awesome review Glenn! This was one of my favorite 64 games as a kid, but after recently going back to play it, the controls really didn't hold up for me. This one definitely needs an HD remake - even if it's just the first Hoth level.
now that would be cool although i guess you should check out my next review in star wars month RE the comment about hoth :P
Loved Dash! Nice review. You were honest with yourself; this game was so fun and replayable!
I remember my first playthrough of SOTE when I was 7 years old. IG-88 and the Dianoga boss scared me so much that my dad had to help me beat them XD. This game is also one of the first that I played to start my Let's Play channel here on RUclips!
nice! ig-88 is a cool boss but its ruined by that simple glitch there is to beat him easily...once you know it its hard not to use it hah
The Nostalgia behind this game had great times as a kid when this first came out it was so exciting to play this game back in the day
Definitely a nostalgic attack! Loved this game. Never thought about it til now. Crazy how all these memories just came flying in while watching it ❤️ That jetpack I loved lol
Coming back to this review. Good work.
I always felt the game was better played in the first person perspective. It was always the better option than third imo.
Yeah it’s funny how many people say that, the first person mode gives cool dark forces vibe at times
I love this channel thank you for taking the time to do all this
+Hernan Henriquez thanks Hernan
I always loved playing this game as a kid, and since Star Wars Racer has been rereleased on modern consoles, I wish they would rerelease this game too,, even if it's the PC version, i don't care, just please bring the game back
I remember I was just shocked by the battle of Hoth...I was 8 (1996) and v much used to X-Wing and to the SNES Star Wars but Shadows of the Empire was (and will forever remain) something else. Thanks for this review!
This was the first game I played for my new N64 when I was just 17. The first thing that impressed me when I plugged in this cart back in about April 1997 was how the real instrumental theme tune was pumping out of a cartridge. All the music from this game has been ripped straight from the movies and way better than anything I heard from Tie Fighter for the PC! As my N64 collection grew this one took a back seat but I still used to go back to it for the Hoth first stage.
Bro, you do fantastic commentaries! I really enjoyed the video! A bit nostalgic cause I remember playing this as a kid and beating it on hard and finding out what happened! Thank you sir for a stroll down memory lane.
Hudson Logie and thank you for watching, glad you enjoyed it - thats why i do what i do right here :)
Crazy the swoop bike chase sequence seemed faster than the book of Boba Fett's one!
Not seen that surprisingly!
I always liked this game when I had a Nintendo 64.
5:51 they even used the han solo pose while shooting, where he sticks his arm out….
The hoth level was so iconic I played it so many times. This game was pretty clunky in many ways and overly difficult, but it was so exciting being a Star Wars fan at the time it came out.
I played it as a kid in the late 90s when you had to go to "the kid" to get the scoop about video game quality. We had a video game barter system and we would trade in the neighborhood. Your neighborhood was social media in those days.
Totally forgot about this game. It's a pleasure to see it again. What a great game
My memories of this game revolve mostly around wanting more ship levels and the strange gun recharge mechanic! I wanted more of the bike racing and ship fighting, both being satisfied by rouge squadron and star wars episode 1 racer later on.
I too yearned for more of those elements and I also was thankful that itch was scratched by the latter titles!
Does anyone believe its worth owning today? So like i might buy on ebay and fairly cheap, if you can give me good enough feedback but my feeling is positive atm. Cheers!
I like it
had this game growing up. could never get past the boss at the end of the train level...... EVER!! Literally one of the hardest n64 games i have ever played.
That’s a badass level but yeah you need ammo stocked up to nail him!
Fun Fact: you never battle Prince Xizor the main villain of the game.
That is a cool fact
Used to play this at my cousin's house, he had a 64, I had a PS. We'd always hop into random levels in the game, I don't think we'd play much of the later on foot levels but that starting level was pretty special.
However, these days it's easy to see that the classics X-Wing and Tie Fighter hold up far better, maybe not visually but certainly in gameplay, story and presentation
I know this game had it's flaws but it's one of my all time favorite Star Wars games. The levels were huge and awesome, to call the foot levels "filler" is ridiculous, that's the bulk of the game and the most enjoyable part; even though the "Hoth" and "Skyhook" levels are probably the two best levels in the game. SHOTE had serious atmosphere and was even pretty creepy - The IG88 level is intense, especially with the noises he makes, and the Boba Fett level had an erie feeling to it. All in all one of my top 5 N64 games.
My dying wish, remake this game for PS4 and Xbox One.
Belive it or not, I think it's actually quite scary to imagine the amount of effort needed to make the animated intros (Not the 'RetroWareTV' logo.) for each individual review, which by the way, I feel that the Duke Nukem 3D intro looks like the best. This is the level of effort that is not a necessity for making a good review, but it makes a solid review (Like this one.) stand out from the others in a quality standpoint. You are doing everything right, never forget that. :)
Thanks it's cool to know people are noticing! I do it for fun, like you said it doesn't add much to the reviews but hey ho it's nice visually I think :-)
This was one of my first n64 games and I loved it. I still think its one of the best Star Wars games ever. I liked the variety of level types with flying, gunner, "motorcycle," and rail-shooter, as well as walking levels. I also liked that you used a blaster. I don't care for light saber battling as much as shooting.
I remember being insanely stoked as a kid when I found the desert Wampas in the mountain level.
I recall the true ending only being revealed when you beat the game on Jedi (which I did). This was the 1st game I completed 100%, every challenge point, every difficulty, I even made up my own challenge on the swoop bike level where I learned how to boost through the entire canyon sequence without crashing or even getting caught on a wall. Also the boss in the sewers was terrifyingly.
I only completed 100% on Medium (To Unlock the Tie Fighter and X-Wing on the Skyhook Level) I've heard that the bonus for completing the Jedi difficulty 100% , it allows you to control enemys for your advantage ? Is it true ?
This and star fox were the first games I got on the n64. I have put so many hours into shadows of the empire. Great review man :D
thanks! i really do need to get around to doing star fox !
I remember that to enter the cheat codes, you had to use all of your ten fingers and even your nose, to move the analog stick.
Nice to hear your connection with the game and recounting of memories here. Great review Glenn as always.
Thanks! Plenty more nostalgia coming is next weeks episode! Rogue squadron is next
Excellent. I've got to say though the best Star Wars game imo is Knights of the Old Republic. Cracking story line with a twist that rivals, if not beats The twist in Empire Strikes Back..
you know thats one of the few SW games I've not yet played! its a sin i know! hah
One of my favorite things to do in the swoop chase level is win at the last second possible. then in the ending cinematic scene as dash pulls up you can see all of the other bikers right behind him.
I like the sound of that
The first level was amazing. Went back and played it again and that level still holds up. The on foot sections ... don't hold up too well. Like most N64 games, the controls are archaic by today's standards. We are spoiled by dual analog sticks. I loved my N64 back in the day, but my nostalgia bubble gets popped every time I pick up that controller.
Awesome intro music! And as always yet another great review.
it is an awesome guitar cover for sure :D
Im thinking about getting this game (i got a n64 recently). Would you say yes definitely? or is there a better SW game on 64? i have SW racer. I didnt have a N64 when i was kid and i think this game only came out for this console and PC. So it seems that is a cool addition to a 64 collection, plus seems cool.
It’s fun but rogue squadrons better
The great memories. I got this game along with my N64 on Christmas and it was so much fun. I feel like you are a little of on people not liking Dash. There are so many people now asking for a disney+ show of Shadows. Anyway, this was probably one of the top games for N64 and I still love it today. I will say, the best way to play is the game view being in first person.
Besides golden eye my fav n64 game. The vehicle based levels were so fun I could play for days esp the last level with the falcon!
I also loved the swoop bikes!
N64 Glenn Plant oh ya, so dope!
Loved this game, but I remember the train level followed by the IG-88 boss fight being incredibly frustrating. The sewer level was a pain to get through as well but still for it's flaws the game made up for them in the vehicle levels and I always had a fun sense of adventure exploring the different areas across the galaxy with Dash.
I remember being a kid and being alive for these times where we didn’t know any better I thought this game was 10/10 now in retrospect people saying it sucks ? lol
I still enjoy playing this far more than many modern games so that’s one of the joys of retro
this game , mario 64, rush, and rogue squadron were my favorite games
I played this mostly in first person and it seems to help the feel of the controls somewhat to me. Great game.
Yeah that’s a popular way that people seem to play this one
*I loved Dash Rendar. Guess I'm alone?*
I wouldn't think so, its cool that they retouched the movies to add his ship into them to make him canon again
@@n64glennplant whoa! They did? I didn't know that. Then again, it's been a while since I've watched star wars.
I remember this was one of the first N64 games I played as a kid. I remember being so hyped for it as I love Star Wars a lot. For some reason though, I never really played it that much. I loved the concept of the game but I remember always just being really frustrated by the controls. It always felt like it took forever to do anything and it all just felt very slow. Like whenever you try to trip up the AT-ATs, it always felt like it took forever and then it was frustrating if you let the hook go too soon and then you'd have to do it all over again. I also remember being really terrified by the wampas as kid. I'd love to play this again as an adult sometime to see if I'm any better playing this game now. I could only ever manage to make it to that train level before I kept getting killed all the time. I do agree though the music was so beautiful and I lost track of how many times I used to fire up the game just to listen to the theme song.
Shadow of the Empire was pure gold. The novel was fantastic, the comics were great and this game is legendary!
3:00 Letting those snow yetis on loose was the most scariest thing ever :D I remember i used to run away from the room, back to hangar! Haha good times.
Älkääsoittakosilloinkumäkuvaan22 haha they were awesome...until they started flipping out and attacking
I'm not a big Star Wars fan, but I remember playing this on my friend's N64 back in the day and I liked it.
yeah i think this had to be one of the most common games for friends to lend to one another early on! i know for sure i lent it out a few times
I hated this game because it was really frustrating, especially the 3rd person parts but once I got to play it (really play it) I started liking it. The vehicle parts were the best. In the end, the game started to grow on me and now I rememeber it fondly.
Great video, Glenn! Haven't had a chance to catch-up on your videos in a while, but I'm finally getting to it! This was probably one of my favorite N64 games, back in the day. Some of the boss battles terrified me as a kid, though (like IG-88) xD
haha yeah it seems like lots of people have commented about ig88! he's a bad ass for sure
Great review - I agree with all of it. I played the Hoth mission a ton, and I was always disappointed by how short the turret level was.
I really don't like the star wars franchise but I absolutely love this game. So challenging but rewarding.
This game was a great launch title. Did what it was supposed to. Large levels, variety in gameplay and showed what the N64 could do.
