You should have made the tubes with the bearings in the shorter. The shorter they are the less load on the axel. Yes it puts more load on the bearings, but they can handle it far better. You should look for parts in a junk yard to save some money and time... spindles, breaks, sway bars... Some of those small cars have parts that would work great in a buggy. People used to use VW beetles all the time.
Remember your first builds??? 😃 Man, have you come a long ways!!! I want one of these machines to fart around in the desert in my retirement! Like the one that is so comfortable, can't remember what it's called. I am fascinated by the metal work and the engineering that goes into these builds. I have been a wood worker all of my life. The tools for metal working have become so good - makes me wish I was younger now and I would probably do it. I missed that one.

I commented something similar on a past video. Possibly consider to using rubber/poly/nylon bushings on critical parts to take out the vibration and slop additionally absorb & deflect impacts to prevent breakage. Love the builds but keep thinking my spine and eardrums would rattle apart driving these things, lol.
Every bar will have some torsion to it, some better than others. Some race spec are made out of Chromoly tubing. Maybe an automotive one from like a Fiesta, Fiat 500, or Smartfortwo would be more apt for this.
@@Ratkill9000 having just been under a smart fortwo I can say that it also has a hollow tube style sway bar. Just had to replace a muffler on it and gave it a general check over as a courtesy inspection for wear items.
If you put a chain on each wheel suspension to hold up the wheel you don't need a sway bar. You can put the brakes at the front and remove the one at the rear. To make the hubs rust proof you can make them red hot and dip them in old car oil, they become black and never rust,
This is such a killer project. Please Mr. Rodger it: take your time to do it right. A way to go to see it running again, but it will be back, better than ever.

@21:20 you were concerned about the sway bar. As an automotive repair technician I have seen cars on the highway with hollow 1 inch tube sway bars. Granted they are smaller cars, but still 4000 lbs plus. The hollow Razer sway bar will be fine.

Try welding with Flux core wire instead. You won't be able to see what you're doing with all the smoke but at least the mosquitoes won't be bothering you.

Tubing sway bars are been used in automotive industry for a long time. I've seen it on Chevy trucks. It should be fine if the manufacture used the correct material.
I know you know what you're doing, but 08:50, that use of the grinder with cutting discs which are good at catching, if you're unlucky and the disc grabs. Something to think about.
May I ask you what your settings are for welding the tubing . I am going to modify the grandkids kart. I just need a starting point to weld the tubing. I have never welded tubing before. I do have a wire feed welded , any info would be great.
I was wondering what you going to do with those levers? I was hoping they weren't going to be for the brakes. but then I noticed that they were shift levers. I have been looking at a kit to add front brakes to my kart. and at just under two hundred dollars on eBay. I'm really temped to get them because it would be impossible for me to build them. without the machining equipment like you have. for me Mosquitoes are a real problem because I'm allergic to them. when I get bit by them it really messes me up. if I get bit enough times I have to go to the emergency room. I really like how you built your spindles. they appear to be strong and adjustable with the hyme joints. (excuse the spelling) you would be surprised about that sway bar it might work. a suggestion, see if you can find out what the weight of the vehicle that it's applicable for. and compare it to the weight of your vehicle. if there's a huge difference it might save you some unnecessary work installing it.

go to home depot, and get you 3 or 4 flats of merigolds (flowers) and stick them in pots around your shop especially the door and your skeeter problem will be gone. thank me later.

Pity you oriented the heim joints that way, now all suspension forces and jumps etc are trying to rip the ball out the eye of the joint. If the bolt were horizontal you'd only have steering shocks on the heim joint and the suspension would be against the entire eye of the joint. Otherwise it's a good design. Except perhaps you have the roll center geometry off so the steering will feel heavy. Hope the Ackerman angle is good also. I enjoy your fabrication style. Just would say a bit more time showing how stuff is fabricated rather than shots of welding and tacking would be more enjoyable. And the gear linkages, especially high/low, the shifter arm on the trans is at an excessive angle, should be rotated perpendicular to the orientation of the shifter rod and the rod shortened.

Most of the swaybar stiffness is in the outside with the inside just along for the ride. Hollow tube works and saves lots of weight.
I'd return that "sway bar." You could make something like that for so much less. There's no way it has any torsion resistance.

A lot of full size cars have hollow sway bars. It doesn't take much stiffness to affect sway, especially on something as small as this go cart

You should try a sway bar from the early Suzuki samurai, up to 1988. It will be perfect. If you want the dimensions just ask.

Did you calculate scrub radius while designing the spindle. I noticed the old spindles had it way off to the inside, like cheap lawn karts.

Get an UV bug zapper trap. That will attract all the bugs and kill them for you.

I noticed that you never use a sleeve between the bearings. Doesn't that add extra strain on the races?
It'll be fine if he uses a nylon lock nut and doesn't crank it down tight. A sleeve in between would be better though.
