  • In this video we are starting a new project, we are building an Off Road Racing Shifter Kart using a CR 125 dirt bike engine. I want this project to be small and fast with full suspension. I first start off with making the front hubs so we can have front brakes. then I start working on making the front A-arms and the beginnings of the frame.

    Love this build. Try getting rid of top 90 on the front bars and go with a 30 or 45 maybe. You could angle it back to meet the top shock mount. Also make the vertical portion angle back a little. You will lose the expansion chamber if you ever roll it. It will be interesting to see how well a twisting chain from the jackshaft to the rear axel will work.

  • @showdownz
    @showdownz Месяц назад +1

    I really think you should add a roughly 15inch support on each side going from the top bar that goes over the engine to the bar the seat is attached to. Basically extending the top bar that's at a 30% angle until it touches the seat bars. My reasoning is this. If you get down level with the back suspensions forward pivot point and look across to the same point on the other side. You will notice that the entire back part of this buggy is supported by four bars that are on the same plane. The two additional supports wouldn't be much work or add much weight. You may have to put a bend in them but again not that hard. I think this would make the overall frame much stronger. Love your videos. Hope this helps

    • @showdownz
      @showdownz Месяц назад

      From the side the frame has a sort of hour glass thing going on. Where the front and back are three dimensionally wide but the middle is super slim from the side view. If this machine was getting a roll cage this wouldn't be the case but it doesn't look like that type of go fast toy.

    Rotate the exhaust 90 degrees to the right and make clearance on the front frame hoop....only needs a bit.
    Also... you need a sway bar/anti-roll bar to control that roll.
    Without an anti-roll bar the outside, tires will dig in too much in turns and alter your camber too much.
    As it is your setup will stop you drifting in power on slides and doughnuts.

      Honestly design has always been his weak spot. His fabrication skills are very good in all areas but the fact he designs as he goes often means his vehicles look a bit odd and quite often aren't really what he set out to build.
      I'd love to see him actually design a vehicle totally before starting the build so he's not constantly making compromises between looks and function and not quite getting everything out of the components he uses.
      I understand why he designs as he builds just think he would end up with something better both in terms of looks, function and it actually being the vehicle he wanted when he started.

    You can get some older mountains bike downhill rear shocks for much more control, and the parts are cheap if you want to restore one shock or parts like springs. You can go as old as 2010 if you want cheap, quality performance. Getting the right spring is crucial, though, to start, not to overwork the shock.

  • @jasonbirch1182

    Ive been building something similar in my head for awhile. I think it should have a full perimeter on the second level of frame and a full roll cage. The extra weight wins with the saftey and shreda bility factor without nearly as much death factor. My plan is the smallest possible caged full suspension vehicle. Like a tiny front engine crosskart. Or like a caged quad basically. 750 nighthawk power.

    I think the chain will pop up with that much twist. Maybe center the sprocket on the axle to reduce overall movement? Think rear of a sport ATV with a swingarm.

    • @InGamesIPlay
      @InGamesIPlay Месяц назад

      I agree sprockets should stay properly aligned at all times, ATV/quads don't use IRS(independent rear suspension) due to the chain it would twist that's why anything with IRS has a transfer case with drive axles.
      Best make that a swingarm like mentioned above, but at least your brakes aren't relying on the jackshaft chain like your some of your prior builds, best avoid the jank.

    I’ve been watching your channel for a while Chris and I’ve got to say you need to relax on the “maximum suspension travel” and start to figure out how to tune suspension. Almost all your rigs have so much travel and it’s so soft that the rigs almost roll on flat ground.
    Just trying to say that you can get so much more out of a properly tuned suspension even if it’s only got half the travel

    You must find a hood for a John Deere garden tractor. It will fit.
