I'm thinking of making something similar for myself. I'm not sure if it's an Australian thing or not, but pretty much every single type of CV joint here has splines on both ends, not splines on the wheel-bearing side, and then a bolt-hub connection on the differential/inner side. I was thinking, to get around this issue, and be able to use the double spline CV joints, I could get a wrecker differential, and use the two output gears that have splines inside them already. Have you come across this same issue before? I can't find anyone else with this specific issue either...
Miata hubs press right on to the Polaris bearings? This answered so much because I’m building a kart too, not using KJ’s build plans because I’m modifying a yerf dog for IRS and old Honda motor cycle engine. Was planning to use Miata knuckles but they’re just too damn heavy
So just wondering I have a 2001 Artic Cat 500 4x4 automatic quad. Would you know if the hubs will work with the Miata axles I know I need to figure out how to be able to use the rear dif as it"s shaft drive. its currently a basic case and was mostly pulled apart already
I would like to say Thank You for sharing this. I do have a question about using the Mazda Miata CV's and the 2003 Mini Cooper front wheel hub assemblies. Are the splines the same (other than using a spacer to take-up the extra spline length)? The 1990 Mazda Miata Outer Splines have approximately a 1.060 OD, .992 Root Diameter (very bottom of spline) with a .010 radius at bottom of "V", 90° Angle (if making a from a solid shaft and using a spline cutter on a dividing head), and the approximate material left on the 1.060 is around .038 inches. Thank You! Wayne
We are using 1993 miata axles, don't know if they are the same as 1990. But yes the splines are the same and they mate perfectly to the hubs other than having to use the spacer.
Thanks for the info was watching the video at work the volume was down silent movie I watched it again when I got home thanks for the info would you have the dimensions of the wheel adapter like you said 4×100 wheels are harder to find thanks Custy
Hi good build ok so you changed the bearing too and pressed in the Miata bearing and not using rzr bearing so Miata hub and bearing goes in the Polaris spindle right thanks.
Yes the bearings were shot when we bought the spindles so we changed them. We pressed in the Miata bearing and Miata hub. Link for parks in description. The rzr bearing and the Miata bearing are the same bearing though.
@@TylerBrown-wq8hs As long as you use high carbon steel keys and 1045 steel for the shaft it should be fine. It's been used is 180hp sleds and it holds up.
great work, is there any good database around to work out what axels fit in what hubs in what bearings? doing alot of ground work my self as looking to build a gsxr750 crosscart for racing. Interesting that you found those mini wheel bearings (and even mroe interesting that the miata axles fit right in). Ive found early opel Astra front wheel bearings/hubs come as an assembly, very common, and a very cool beefy looking 3 bolt pattern, 4x100 but im not sure if the miata splines or anything else will fit. Some gooling says both are 22 spline but would need to confirm
Car forms tend to be the best as manufacturers don't really give out drawings. There somebody will usually know the right specs. Ford owned both Mazda and Mini at one point so we just took a wild guess and they ended up fiting.
Found your video while looking at KJ Racing online. Very good idea. Question...Are the main hub bearings you replaced in the Polaris RZR 800 carriers the same as the Mazda Miata bearings? I am looking to build a CrossKart and am not in an area where i can get a donor ATV but have an ATV with a solid axle so i am having to put together a rear drive-train. Thanks... :)
Yes!!! You guys are so awesome! Thank you so much! I am going to start collecting parts immediately.
I thought you had 10 years of hard work designing this. Here someone did it for you. WTF.
Nice of you to share. Am a year into my cross kart build and already planning out my rear drive upgrade!
Outstanding video - thank you! A real craftsman knows how to get things done - and you are a REAL craftsman! Thanks again!
According to the part numbers and what vehicles it fits you can use rear knuckles from various sportsmans as well.
And why not just leave the studs in the miata hubs and cut off the excess if needed and put new studs in the adapter?
@@abels_04 It can be done that way as well it's cheaper to replace with bolts instead of buying more studs.
Very well explained on the kind of hubs to use. Thanks this was very helpful.
Loving this channel already
new subscriber Frum TN here glad i found ye all by accident .God bless
Golf kart wheels come in 12" it solves this problem as well. You can run atv tires

With the right sensor that ring could be used to fab you a speedometer.

Can you tell me why you went with trailing arm design?
What sway bar are you using in the rear.
Do you need to change the bearings on the rzr hubs to run those Miata axles?
Does the Miata hub press in the rzr bearing with out modifications.
Hey man what size were the flange bearings on the spool?

What is the total width of the hub to hub?
What about using the stock miata hubs and carriers have yall done that?
I have built that spool but beefed the plates up... how much Hp/Trq do you think the spool can handle? Im worried cause Im using a R1 engine.. 👀

Do you think it will matter if the two carrier wheel are from a different year. ? (One is 08 the other 12) same part # tho
They probably will. We use partzilla since you can look up the part and see every model it's used on.
