The Z has a 300lb weight advantage but the power difference kinda evens things out for the mustang..this is a weird one. Only other thing is powerband and gear ratios
The roll race results are not THAT surprising. A Z is never going to beat a high-powered Mustang from a standstill. That is not what they are for. At least with the 370Z that I had all of the power was above 2500 rpm. The new Z is a TT so it is likely to also lag at lower RPM , but once the engine spins up, then they are in the fat part of the power band. Still, Z's are supposed to be for driving, not dragging.
I drove a 2016 GT w/MT for about four years. When Ford came out with the second gen S550 in 2018, they reworked the Coyote V8, upping the compression ratios and adding direct injection on top of the port injection on the previous version. They also reworked the gear ratios on the manual transmission on the GT's. The end result was, even though the new engine produced about 20 more hp, the car's total performance did not improve much. There were many who believed it would have been much better off with the previous years gears.

The horsepower is always at the crank, not the wheels. Once you bolt up the transmission, the rear axle, the differential, and all of the other components in the engine the parasitic loss happens. There are always ways to remove some of these factors by deleting components that are belt-driven or lightening up driveshafts and other drivetrain components. Of course, replacing certain stock components with aftermarket ones, and getting a re-tune in some cases, will help too.
Watching these two cars with drivers trying to shift makes me appreciate having cars with quicker shifting automatics. No sloppy shifting, no driver errors..just shifts that are smooth and faster than what any human can do. I love manuals but the constant excuses from drivers who missed shifts or didn’t get it quite right would get tiresome after awhile. Modern automatics for the win!
Sam, for a pretty decent car drag racing channel, you need to work on the numbers. Sounds like you’re just guessing the weight of both cars (“3,700-3,800 lbs for the Mustang,” it’s 3,827 so your second number was pretty close, “3,300-3,400 lbs for the Z,” it’s actually 3,486 so you were off by almost a 100. Not a huge deal, but just look up the actual stats on the Manufacturers’ websites, it’s pretty easy. And I’m surprised no one said anything about the Z performing noticeably worse in the second and third drag races. Maybe the engine was getting hot and it reduced the power. I mean just look how it was right next to the Mustang in the first drag race, and how far it fell back in race 2 and 3. You should also bring back the stats on the screen, right next to each other, so we can easily compare the cars. Keep up the good work!
Does a Mustang at 500HP @ 5000RPM vs Nissan Z at 420HP @ 6400RPM make a difference? I know more horsepower can mean more speed but does the higher RPM difference help?

That s650 steering wheel amd column looks massive and very unappealing from that view..
Seems to me that a twin turbo v- 6 should be making a lot more than 400 HP. I could be wrong, but seems like almost all v-6's now a days make over 300 HP naturally aspirated, being twin turboed, and only 400 HP doesn't seem right to me.
Stupid question, but was that the nismo Z?
Did the Z misshift during the last 2 drags? It did much better in the 1st drag.
simply Mustang shifts in begin was terrible.
Sam can't ever shift a manual transmission. He needs to review automatics only.
Wait a minute, get you an automatic trans. For the ford, you will kill the other guy
You could read War and Peace in between Sam's shifts. He's probably wearing flip-flops.
GREAT RACE CARS--WOW-BOTH CARS ARE AWESOEME-
Watching these two cars with drivers trying to shift makes me appreciate having cars with quicker shifting automatics. No sloppy shifting, no driver errors..just shifts that are smooth and faster than what any human can do. I love manuals but the constant excuses from drivers who missed shifts or didn’t get it quite right would get tiresome after awhile.
Modern automatics for the win!
I like the stang. I just wish the coyote didn't sound like a 70's chevy truck with fence post exhaust.
Mans was driving with his feet and shifting with his teeth 🤣
This race confirms what everyone has been saying all along.
That he can't drive...you're correct.
@@tri3pleagent😂 😂 I've been looking for this comment!!! Thought it was just me!!! 😂 😂 😂 😂
Automatic gearboxes have surpassed manual transmissions. It's not even worth discussing. Nostalgia is the only reason for getting a manual. I'm old-school and my 2023 Mustang GT has a 6 speed manual and I love it.
Slow shifting deliberate? Or awful?
Both
Liked your attitude. Subscribed
i'm convinced this channel goes out of their way to shift as slow as fuck in these cars to make them look slow as possible
Z driver bangin gears makes a huge difference in the rolling races
Z going to win do to you got crap tires on the mustang ,and the Z is light you know that ,come on , not a far fun race...
