  • Don't hose down the engine like I did. Real hard to start after! Guess something important got wet!

Never had any idea that the inside could get that wet and be okay once it dried! Formula 409 does the trick dissolving oily residue, now I want to spray it on the engine inside mine and give the toothbrush a workout. I’m not convinced spraying it with water is a good idea, but using armor all is a great idea! I’m inspired!
After having no power for 88 hours last week to prevent wildfires🔥, the Honda kept the devices charged plus 6 aquariums and the network going. It deserves to be detailed❤️

I have several HONDA generators and take good care of them. I use Pledge on the outside which keeps them nice.

I use the cheap dollar store pledge for everything. . On my Generators I armorall them once a year and always have them covered.

In Louisiana during Hurricane season...the local fire departments get a lot of calls about overheating generators.
They hose these down with water. I have seen many of these ruined by that.
Motors run fine after a dry out. But, they never have electrical output over 2 volts or so.
I like clean equipment. But in this case.....I'd rather put up with a little dust.

Should start it up and count the green blinks of the light , the green blinks will show you how many hours are on it , good video

I am not sure what year Honda started that, half of mine do not have that feature.

@@GlennsSpeedShop Maybe your does and is under 100 hours. Most people just go camping with their generator or use it in a blackout sometimes. I thought all the little suitcase portable generators had the blinking green light. It blinks green once for each 100 hours of use the light blinks when you start it up.

What do you look for and what do you test when buying these used Hondas?

    • @NETWizzJbirk
      @NETWizzJbirk 4 года назад

      1. Overall appearance tells you if it was left outside or garaged. Look at the screws for rust. 2. Pull the rope... tells you that it has good compression and that the timing belt isn’t broken etc. 3. Look in the oil filler to validate presence of oil (most importantly), its color, and that the flinger has both plastic paddles intact. 4. Look at the color of the fuel lines and serial verifies it’s age. 5. Smell the gasoline to see if it’s very old. 6. Does it run? Does it surge? 7. How many times does the light flash gives you a rough hours count to the nearest 100 hours. 8. Is the air filter present and reasonably clean? 9. Does it make power? 10. Does the chassis look like all screws are present and tight like it hasn’t been messed or tampered with?

Why don’t yo just take it to the car wash dummy! Better yet fill a bath tub and let it soak.

Never ever would i put strong cleaners like that anywhere close to
a generator. Plus all the water you have sprayed on the internals
if that thing lasts i would be very amazed. I never leave it out in the rain or
if i am outdoor i use a folding plastic table and cover it so rain will not
get on it. But hosing it like you did no way man il leave mine a bit dusty
    before i do this.

Too funny. I leave mine out in almost any condition. A little water will not hurt this machine.

@@markrottjakob2670 I've left a generator out in the rain for a long time. A work generator 6250 watt I used on the top of a work van. But once when I was running it the rain all of a sudden rain started to come down very hard. The lights shut off inside the van. The engine was still running but not making any power. Luckily it was still under warranty but the generator electrical side burned up. Or possibly blew a fuse inside. No fuses were blown on the outside but it was still under warranty. So the store upgraded it for a Over Head Valve engine a better engine for a few more dollars.

Steve Hill Thanks for the comment. My intent fir this video was to show how I clean dirty Honda Generators. This was one of two I bought and sold to a coworker. I of course changed the gas, oil, cleaned the foam air filter and checked the spark plug before I sold it. I own four of these, one for more than 10 years and have. Ever changed a spark plug. I put about 26 hours on one last week alone. I use my Generators to power sound equipment for my DJ busness. I think they are the best portable generator available, I use them 2 to 3 days a week and in 10 years have never let me down. Even my 10 year old units look good, keep them clean and covered for a professional look.
