"Comfortably Numb" is one of the most iconic songs by the British progressive rock band Pink Floyd. It was released in 1979 on their album "The Wall," which was written largely by Roger Waters, the bassist and primary lyricist of the band.
The song is known for its powerful guitar solos and haunting lyrics. It's often considered one of Pink Floyd's greatest achievements and has been hailed as one of the greatest rock songs of all time.
"Comfortably Numb" features dual lead vocals, with David Gilmour singing the verses and Roger Waters singing the chorus. The lyrics convey a sense of emotional detachment and numbness, possibly influenced by Waters' feelings of alienation and disillusionment during the time of writing "The Wall."
The song is particularly famous for its mesmerizing guitar solos, notably the extended guitar solo performed by David Gilmour. The solo, which occurs towards the end of the song, is often cited as one of the greatest guitar solos in rock history.
"Comfortably Numb" has been covered by numerous artists and has been featured in various films, television shows, and commercials over the years. Its enduring popularity and critical acclaim have solidified its place as one of Pink Floyd's signature songs.

Pink Floyd came out with “The Wall” movie. You should check out the movie. Just make shire you have something to smoke. 😂😂😂 just kidding
"Leo Fender made the guitar, God made Dave Gilmour to play it."
When a new Pink Floyd album came out you locked yourself in your room with gigantic headphones on high as hell and left the planet
😂😂❤❤❤✌️
When I bought "Dark Side of the Moon" in '73, I did just that. Had the posters from the album hung next to my poster of Jimmy Page and Robert Plant from their concert at Madison Square Garden in '73, from "The Song Remains the Same" movie. Had my black light on and, as they say, the rest is history.
Haha true story!!!! ❤❤
Certainly did!!😂😂🇬🇧
Blimey,you too?
You don't see a Pink Floyd concert, you experience it.
That is so true, it is an experience that you can't describe....
Animals Cleveland 77. It's been unforgettable for me.
Best concert I ever saw
Saw them in NC…. What I can remember was great 🤣 The light show will take you away. One huge party for sure.
One of the best seen live. It is a feeling.
''... a child is grown, a dream is gone...''
“no one told me when to run..I missed the starting gun..”
The best line..
"The child is grown, the dream is gone..." Cheers, mate! 🙂
@@kevingood4644 Run, rabbit RUN!
PF is on a completely different level. They are a gift. Yesterday was David Gilmour's birthday, great timing!
my big bro and his fiancee have attended every of their concerts in the 90s in Copenhagen, they say every concert is an experience!a childhood friend of mine who hadnt the money to visit a concert of theirs, could hear the concert 4 km away in his school area at nite!
I was there.
Been to thousands of concerts in my 70 years, but this!
This was the best.
Changed my life.
I saw them in 94.best concert I ever saw.
Wow you're so lucky! I would give anything to have experienced this in person!
The feels and goosebumps i get just from watching the video, I cant even imagine what it would have been like!
@@mooks29 Also saw them on the Atom Heart Mother tour in ‘72 I think it was,in London.
We were spoiled back then, saw Led Zep couple of weeks later in Manchester.
@@TheCornishCockney The Second British Rock Gathering, Germersheim Germany, 1972! They closed Friday night! Started the set with One of These Days, finished with Echos.
It was....ELECTRIC!
Best guitar solo ever
Definitely!!
yeah, not a guitar solo, THE guitar solo!
100%
Simply the best guitarist ever to pick up a plectrum. Ladies and gentlemen I give you Dave Gilmour.
Seeing Pink Floyd Live was a Religious Experience. Ohio State Stadium with over 150 Thousand People Easy Probably closer to 200 Thousand. They played for 3 and half hours minus a 45 minute break. Greatest concert in my life and the Best Light Show Ever. His music will last forever.
I saw the Animals tour in Cleveland 77. It was long ago but I still remember everything.
I was at the Shoe that night in 94. The light show made the stadium look
The mirror ball made the stadium feel like it was going in circles. Unbelievable.
Their music😘
“David Gilmour can do more with one note than most guitar players can do with an entire fretboard” -Dave Mustaine
"The child is grown, the dream is gone." Brutal truth for us all.
Trust me, there are all the other concerts you have seen ...and then there was Pink Floyd!!!!!
Agree
🎯
Beyond the literal description of a doctor giving a band member drugs, there is the deeper level of how our world can destroy compassion and love. The first guitar solo is the euphoria of comfortable numbness to face anything, then the second solo of lament of now being comfortably numb and the loss of connection and isolation. All expressed in music. That fleeting glimpse of love by a child, now lost in the modern man. Incredible.
Very well explained !!!🙄
I am 65 and this is my favorite band and my favorite song. I am fortunate enough to have seen them live. Enjoyed your reactions.
Best band ever. Seen them 6 times back then. Still holds today...and I'm 68
65? No Youngsters, please !:)
I paid £1 to see them at this same venue: Earls Court with 18,000 others when they debuted "Dark Side Of The Moon" in 1973 in London:)
I'm 37 and own them all on vinyl, they get played often, I listen to them daily.
@@Isleofskyethat is an experience I can say that I am actually envious of. That has got to be a hell of a memory.
@@jons.14 Thanks,My Friend, and you have seen the current Oasis ticket prices up to £204:)
Pink Floyd (as above) £1......and all around the same time at their respective "peaks": Led Zeppelin@Wembley Arena=75 PENCE // Both Deep Purple and the following week Creedence Clearwater Revival @The Royal Albert Hall BITH 25PENCE "in The Gods" so £1+75p+25p+25p=£2.25 LOL
Good Luck mate.
David doesn't plug his guitar into a amp during this performance. He plugs it into his heart.
I would go as far to say that he plugs into his Heart, Spirit and Soul, 🙂
Actually he plugs it into YOUR heart.
The greatest concert ever. You can't go wrong with Pink Floyd.
Pink Floyd not only gives you EPIC performance musically, but also visually. I was lucky enough to see them in 1994.
I saw them around then. There were pigs flying. 😂😂 And so was I. 😂❤️❤️✌️
Tampa Stadium. Incredible to see live👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Me too
pink floyd has several singers. the guitar is one of them....
Pink Floyd were absolute masters of live performances. Their attention to detail is evident every time they perform live.
This concert is from 1994 .The song is from 1979 The Wall album which is a concept album that is a story about a character named pink based on bassist Roger Water's life from a young child losing his father in the war and all the trials and tribulations of life that have cause him to self isolate (Build the wall ) best listened to from song one til the end there is also a movie of the same name Pink Floyd The Wall . I saw this show live at the Pontiac Silver Dome just out side of Detroit aprrox. 6-8 months before this video was made. I've been to over 200 concerts this is by far the best I've seen . Pink Floyd isn't just music it's an experience.
what was our 2nd best ..
@@mollybeegood6342 Second best would have to be Deep Purple Perfect Strangers the reunion tour. Third would be KISS at Tiger Stadium in 96 Then the Black and Blue Tour Black Sabbath & Blue Oyster Cult. .The concert for SARS would rank up there with three big name bands The Stones, AC/DC , Rush along with many other bands
The verse that starts with, "When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse...." gets me everytime.
Thanks for not interrupting the solo. There should be an app that destroys the computer of anyone who dares to pause Gilmur's solo.
David Gilmour guitar solo so beautiful and his voice is good to love this song
The whole Pulse concert is life-changing! This wasn't even the finale!
You guys now need to watch "On the turning away", "Great gig in the sky" and "Wish you were here" from the same concert. (Pulse)
Also, “Run Like Hell” was the last song they played at that concert, is a must-watch
"Coming back to life" always gets me from pluse.
One does not listen to Pink Floyd, you experience Pink Floyd. Every song takes you for a ride!
Pink Floyd made concept albums. If you guys ever decide to do whole album reviews, Pink Floyd should be your choice.
That's one of my favorite guitar solos of all time...and, what a light show!!!
Pink Floyd was their own genre. They blazed trails, took risks, did all the unconventional things and won.
Yep. There’s that one word EVERYBODY says after this is WOW. Good to see you enjoyed this.
"Sorrow" from "Pulse" is also fantastic guitar work from Sir David Gilmour.
That little "ping" was crucial my friends.
Not only is Gilmour one of the best guitarists of all times, but he’s also very humble and down to earth if you watch interviews.
This concert is off the chains, prolly one of the top two of ALL time. The production, engineering, sound, and raw talent of all of them excelling in their craft. Pick any song from that concert, heck do em all.
Nothing, NOTHING on this planet like a Pink Floyd concert, it's like a religion experience, my favorite band of all time, that guitar plays on the strings of your soul.
Glad I'm a boomer and grew up listening to all this great music!!!
One of the greatest bands ever
October 20th 1994 was the best day of my life. I was at this concert at earls court London England while I was in the navy. Everything about the pulse concert was over the top when they played money the crowd went nuts . You should react to great gig in the sky at pulse concert. I will help you pick your jaw up off the floor. Best to you gentlemen from a retired navy vet.
I was also at this exact concert. A life event for me and the only time I had tears in my eyes at the end !
Nice reaction . If you liked this song then you will love Sorrow, High Hopes, Great Gig in The Sky.
OMG Thank you for feeling the way I did....
You're so welcome. And Thank you for the wonderful suggestion. 😊
You should really listen to the entire Wall album all the way through! It's truly a work of art!!!
And that is not at the end of the show, there are more songs after this. What a light show!
"ECHOES" (Live in Pompeii 1971/72) ..... "Shine on you crazy Diamond" (Studio Album)
Great song
Pink Floyd was the band that we would trip to in the early 70s. Headphones and acid : )
"High Hopes" - from the same concert, is another classic performance, and for sheer contrast, "Echoes" - performed live from ancient Pompei , in the early 70's
"Us and them" (studio ver.) Should def be next.
My favourite, it just nudges Time off of the top spot...the lyrics get just get me ✌️
@@robwalker7575 Yeah, it's one of my favourite songs ever. Also "Echoes" is up there for me.
Love ❤❤❤❤
Yo, when Fenom sits up, it is _GAME ON_
Best live guitar solo ever.
The whole Pulse concert is epic.
Don’t forget David Gilmour’s ‘Remember that night’ live concert.
Pink Floyd was, is and will always be my most favorite band; for five decades already.
Pink Floyd is an Experience. You FEEL their music as it takes you on a journey.
No band puts on a live performance like Pink Floyd, and David Gilmour guitar speaks to a persons soul,...
Good call Heidi. I can’t wait for you guys to get deeper into Dark Side of the Moon. “Time” is really 🔥
I saw this concert in the Pontiac Silverdome. Over 100,000 people and we were all connected during that song. Watch the disco ball too. We were all blown away by the spectacle. For weeks all my friends and I could do was say WOW! It overwhelmed us.
The look on your faces said it all as that epic solo came to an end. I first heard this when I bought "The Wall" in '79 and 45 years later I still get the chills when David lets his Strat sing the end of this piece. Live it is even more awesome.
For over 40 years that line ' When I was a child I caught a fleeting glinpse out of the corner of my eye....' gets me emotional every time I hear it.
Great reaction , love your work.
I have to say it!! When you see them live, it feels like they should be giving out mushrooms at the door! ❤❤✌️
Luckily, I brought my own. 😆😁
🎼There will never be another guitarist like David Gilmour. Or another keyboardist like Richard Wright. Or another drummer like Nick Mason.☮️
Thanks for digging on some Floyd w us !! Woot Woot !! I got to see them LIVE in the Superdome on the Division Bell Tour.... It was like an out of body experience for me. David Gilmour's guitar is mesmerizing, transcending, it takes you places you never thought a guitar could take you? I will never forget that night. Pink Floyd and David Gilmour, my fave band and guitarist !!
Try Shine on you crazy Diamond, Welcome to the Machine, Have a Cigar
Always enjoy your channel and reactions. This is my favorite from Pink Floyd personally. I’m 65.
The ending guitar solo in this is one, is one of the like 5 most famous guitar solos in rock history. It has a life of its own.
Arguably the best live guitar solo in history.
great reaction guys, that guitar solo is widely regarded as the best solo ever and i have to agree,
the whole live pulse concert is amazing, id recommend you react to TIME, SORROW, HIGH HOPES
from the same pulse concert, sit back and let your mind be blown
When my old man and I need to relax we roll a couple and listen to Pink Floyd. They just take you there. 🎸🌬🎵
20 years old a coworker had 2 tickets to this tour to sell me. The only money in my bank account was for my car insurance. The concert was worth it!!!
In those solos, Gilmour doesn’t plug his guitar into amplifiers. He plugs it direct to your soul.
I love how he doesn’t wear some fancy outfit or leap about on stage, no attention grabbing. He looks like a builder coming to your house to give a quote on fixing a gutter. But then sets to rocking out the greatest solo ever.
The Floyd are an experience like none other. DG doesn’t plug his guitar into an amp he plugs it into your soul.
I was lucky enough to see this tour and at this venue. It was probably next to the birth of my daughter, the most thought provoking and emotional event I have ever seen.
Great big shout out to David Gilmore for that guitar solo!! Fine job fellas 😊
Thank you for not stopping every 30 seconds to comment. This song brings back a lot of memories.
I was at the Pink Floyd - Pulse concert July 1994 in East Rutherford, NJ. Giant Stadium . It was the best concert that I have ever seen or even imagined.
67-year-old Canadian and I still love listening to Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin music of my youth.
Heidi is in that clandestine group of people who go channel to channel requesting the same songs over and over that actually get their requests answered. I wonder what it takes to join that group. A dozen people have reacted to this in the last 2 weeks. It's not coincidence.
Art and the pure joy on Corey’s face! Thank you, friends ❤🇬🇧
What a amazing Guitar 🎸 Solo by David Gilmore
I was at this concert. Ahoy Rotterdam, November 1993. Ahoy known for it's unbelievable acoustics. When the ball opened up everybody's jaw dropped... it was above me in the arena.
This was an experience, not just a concert... David Gilmore has Guitar god status ❤🎉
THE GREATEST LIVE GUITAR SOLO OF ALL TIME!! INCREDABLE!!🎉😮
Pink Floyd, weed and big speakers. The best of times. This is a masterpiece and is better than the album version. When David Gilmore opens his mouth, I get chills. Great reaction to a beautiful piece of art.
Saw Pink Floyd in 1977 and 1988 both were amazing to behold…
There is a professional tribute band called Britt Floyd that tours. If you ever have a chance, go see them. It’s the closest you will come to Pink Floyd in concert.
I saw Floyd play The Wall live on Long Island. It was the single greatest night of my life. Nothing will ever compare.
Written by Gilmour and included somewhat reluctantly by Roger Waters in the Wall album. Waters kinda thought he owned the creative part of PF and that’s where all the feud started.. one of the top ten best guitar solos ever ❤
You guys just witnessed absolute greatness.
Goosebumps guys....Oh my..YEAH..♥️🙂
It was AWESOME to see all 3 of you “get it” during the second solo🎸🎸🎸🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 BEST reaction video I’ve seen done of this song!! Playing all the way through and DEFINITELY not interrupting the solo 😎😎😎😎
The outro: best guitar 🎸 solo EVER!!! 🤘🏼🔥🙌🏼
One thing about this concert - the impeccable quadraphonic sound… you could feel it in your bones, yet it didn’t hurt your ears
I saw them in concert and it was an absolute religious experience. The best concert I’ve ever been to.
Seen Pink Floyd "The Wall" in 1979 in Los Angels Ca, at the Fabulous Forum! Best Show I've seen ever! I'm old but worth it!
Even though it's from a whole other era, you still can hear the age-old Chuck Barry riff in the guitar solo.
Saw this tour at the Oakland Coliseum. I remember when the white lights appeared above Dave's head and thinking it looked like God had pulled out a magnifying glass so he could get a better look. Then it became a giant halo. Then the disco ball exploded, followed shortly by my head. Good show!
And still the best part for me was them opening with Astronomy Domine!
🤘🧙♂🤘
OMG...someone that just LISTENS and appreciates the sound without interrupting 42 times. Thank you !!! The most beautiful man and music ever made !! Legend.
Check out Sorrow from the same concert. Any song from this concert was amazing. This concert was from 1994. The song was written in 1979. This concert was 30 years ago! ! Crazy good!
you know a classic when it still sounds awesome 40 years later
I saw this tour 4 times in NY and New jersey. Tremendous! especially cause i ate 3 hash brownies beforehand. Gilmours vocals and solo launched my soul to the heavens! Never forget it, EVER!
The song is from The Wall album, they released this whole concert(from their 1994 Pulse album Tour) as a live DVD. Oh and I was there. I was 19. I wasn't ready. It was beyond incredible. Best night ever.
Tour was called The Division Bell tour, that’s the album they were promoting. Pulse was the name of this album released a few months after the tour.
Best concert I ever went to nobody comes close to live shows like the Floyd nobody, zero, natta,
I was at the Chantilly Hippodrome near Paris in 1994 for their PULSE tour, and it's the most fabulous light show I've seen in my life, along with that of Genesis in 1977 and Queen in 1984. Three unforgettable concerts that give me chills just thinking about them. As for the sound, it was simply monstrous ! The loudest I've ever heard in concert with the WHO in 1978, ZZ Top in 1986 and Mötley Crüe in 2011...
Pink Floyd is more than just music, it’s a mental journey ! ✌️ ❤
From the same Pulse Concert, please check out SORROW and also RUN LIKE HELL.
They played live in Gdansk, Poland among the many places they've performed. That's the shipyard where the Solidarity movement began, arguably leading to the demise of the Soviet Union. One of the songs played was "High Hopes". That particular performance is spectacular!
That stage show would still be incredible to see today. Try to imagine seeing this live 25 years ago. No other band was even close to this on stage. Of course the music is spectacular, it is Pink Floyd after all. They don't play a lot of notes, just all the right ones.
I believe it was, at the time, the most expensive set to go on tour and the highest grossing rock tour.
They had three sets. So they could be playing on one whilst another was being set up in the next city and the previous set being taken down to move on again.
