David Gilmour is the guitarist from pink flloyd. This song "comfortably numb" is from "The Wall" album. It is a concept album that tells the story about a fictional rock star named Pink who has built a wall around himself to isolate himself from human emotions.
In this song Pink has become physically and emotionally ill before a concert.
The doctor comes in and gives him a shot which makes Pink become comfortably numb so he can go onstage for the show.
It's a double meaning. Comfortably numb for the show as a metaphor for how Pink has become comfortably numb to all human emotion.
The absolute best version of this song is from the pulse concert. It will totally blow you away; even after you've seen the version you just watched.
" COMFORTABLY NUMB PULSE CONCERT" will bring it up on you tube.

    • @system64738
      @system64738 6 месяцев назад +4

And I can add: "The Wall" (and Comfortably Numb) is from 1979 ... so it's really from the older stuff...
I find this version the best:
      ruclips.net/video/26GAP7FAMXU/видео.html
Not necessarily because of the music or the vocals - but because what belongs together comes together here.
On this song in particular, Waters' and Gilmour's voices complement each other perfectly.
Unfortunately, Waters was (and still is) on an egocentric trip - when I think of what good music the two of them could have created together with Mason and Wright (R.I.P.)....

Comfortably Numb is from Pink Floyds 11th album "The Wall", released in 1979. Pink Floyd is one the greatest bands of all time. The performance you watched was awesome, but 1994's PULSE tour performance is absolutely amazing. This band has been releasing music since 1967 (The Piper at the Gates Of Dawn), with their final album dropping in 2015. One song you might know, "MONEY", from 1973's DARKSIDE OF THE MOON, considered by many to be one of the greatest albums of all time.

Thanks for reacting to one of my favorite artists! I was fortunate to see David Gilmour on this tour when it came through Chicago in 2016. I had only become a fan of Pink Floyd the year before, and he was my favorite (I love guitar players!), so I was thrilled when I found out he was touring his solo album from 2015 (Rattle That Lock). Of course, he played a lot of Pink Floyd classics (like 'Comfortably Numb'), as well. Light shows were also a big part of Pink Floyd's stage show, which David Gilmour carried over into his solo tours. He was 70 years old in 2016, so he still sounded amazing! David Gilmour is known for his emotional, soulful solos. He isn't flashy. His haunting vocals are also a big part of the Pink Floyd sound. David joined Pink Floyd in 1968. After the band's lyricist and bass player, Roger Waters, left the band in 1985, David Gilmour became the leader of Pink Floyd for the rest of the 1980s and beyond. Probably the best Pink Floyd concert video is from 1994; it's called Pulse. I suggest reacting to the song 'Sorrow' from the Pulse concert. In the Pulse shows, there are also two other original members of Pink Floyd: Drummer Nick Mason and keyboard player Richard Wright. Sadly, Richard Wright died in 2008, but he performed keyboards in David Gilmour's solo shows in the early-to-mid 2000s, which I thought was cool.

Have you ever every had a split second memory from your childhood? It comes and goes so fast that you can't quite grasp it, but it's there, and it's real. Those fleeting glimpses tend to fade as one grows older but they remain an integral part of who we are...

Yes, as others have noted, David Gilmour is a legend, and began his career with Pink Floyd, without a doubt, one of the greatest bands of all time. The 1994 Pulse concert version of "Comfortably Numb" is regarded as the best version of the best guitar solo. The song was originally released in around 1978 as part of "the Wall" album, which is legendary. All the Pink Floyd albums from Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall, Animals and Division Bell are masterpieces as are the Pompeii and Pulse concerts.

So i'm a bit sad you didn't hear the Pulse Version of this:)
But you can show it to Don :D
(Gilmours guitar is a very different vibe than other guitarists, more of a feel than a "look what i can do" type :D)

@@Kristina-jf4hd For the complete Pulse tour experience, we sat center stage 300 level other side of the arena at B.C. Place in Vancouver. Freaking incredible, the arena has a soft top held up by air pressure that can be adjusted for ultimate acoustics. Saw everything, the complete laser and light show designs without getting a crick in the neck from looking up, had massive big screens on each side so you could see what was happening on stage. Right in between the rear quadraphonics was assaulted by the sound. Dude sitting by us was in the 10th row the night before and said these seat blew them away for overall experience. Still get goosebumps when I think about it. Hell, that was thirty years ago now. And Comfortably Numb has always been my favorite Floyd tune. Wish I could have gone both nights and tried out your seats also.

David Gilmour is one of Eddie Van Halen's inspirations. I remember in one of Eddie's rare interviews back in the day (I think it was Guitar Player magazine) while he was sitting with the interviewer and talking about influences Eddie mentioned Gilmour and said he loved his playing that "it's so tasty". In that same interview he also mentioned Eric Clapton as a huge influence as well. As a couple have mentioned below, the 1994 Pulse concert is epic and a much better version solo-wise.

That list you were given was the names of the lead guitarists for different bands. David Gilmour was lead guitarist and a singer for Pink Floyd, Mark Knopler was lead guitarist and singer for Dire Straits, Eddie Van Halen was lead guitarist for Van Halen, and, of course, SRV was lead singer and guitarist for Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. "Comfortably Numb" was released in 1980 by Pink Floyd from the album "The Wall".

Yo BP!! Man I am beyond excited for you discovering David Gilmour (my favorite guitarist) and so ecstatic for you to react to Pink Floyd (in my top 3 bands). They have so many incredible songs. Some albums though you just have to experience the whole thing in one sitting, like The Wall, or Dark Side of the Moon or Division Bell. Also there’s a film for The Wall and it’s so sick!! Definitely recommend seeing that one. Great react!! Let’s gooooo!!

David Gilmour has been a member of Pink Floyd since 1968. He replaced founding member Syd Barrett, who was forced to leave the band due to mental problems caused by excessive drug use. He has since become the band's frontman and lead singer. He is one of the best guitarists in the world, not perhaps for his speed, but for his specific guitar playing. His guitar tones go straight to the heart and soul.

Ok so 1st of all the 1994 Pulse tour version of comfortably numb is much better. 2nd you should check out "pink floyd - the great gig in the sky" and 3rd solo wise "the eagles - hotel California" but i bet you've heard that one but that last dual solo is fire

The way Eddie Van Halen put it into words is best way I've heard David Gilmour explained.
"David Gilmour is the benchmark of less being more. He has proved that shredding and fast playing is not the benchmark of mastery level. Gilmour never wastes a note; he builds his solos like a painter; every note, every bend, every tonal inflection has merit...David's solos paint a picture in the minds of his listeners. Something that really is a testament of his talent as a guitar player"

In 1973 Gilmour and his bandmembers wrote the most influential album of all time (alongside the Beatles´Sgt. Pepper album), THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON. On Wikipedia´s list of bestselling albums of all time it lists #4. "The Dark Side of the Moon" held the record for the longest time on the Billboard 200 chart in history, with over 950 weeks landed. It reached Number 1 on the Billboard 200 on April 28, 1973, one month after its release. "The Dark Side of the Moon" made a re-entry in the Billboard 200 charts as late as 2020.
