  • On today's 'My First Time' I open a small sample bottle of the Glengoyne 18 from their core lineup. Will it be better than the Glengoyne 12 that I recently tried?

Was fortunate to have bought a bunch of Glengoyne, the 12, 15, 18 and 21 years ago when it was available for very very low prices at a shop in California. They make beautiful Whisky but the 43% presentation is such a shame. Cheers

Nice one Wade! Glengoyne was the first distillery I visited and I picked up the Cask Strength Batch 2 which blew my mind at the time. The 18 is really an elegant and wonderful dram. We are guilty of turning our noses up at low specs sometimes but when you give some of these drams a chance and they strike you as delicious, it's always a good day. I had a very similar reaction to this dram as yours so I can absolutely relate to your smile 😀 Cheers my friend 🥃

Thank you brother! Managed to pick up a bottle of the 18 today on a $60 discount on RRP so looking forward to getting to know this whisky a little better 😉

Great review. Glengoyne makes really good whisky, I've been to to the distillery a few years ago, really nice. I agree with you that there are some bottles that are really good at a lower abv, a really great example is Glenfarclas 12YO, I really recommend that one.

I still like the lagavulin 16 which is 43% ABV too

Luckily bought Glengoyne bottles a few years ago, so decent prices. My 18 is actually still closed. If you get the chance go for one of the CS batches. Had CS batch 3 and it was lovely. Glengoyne don’t add brown dye to their whisky. Shame the core range is not at 46.%though. Enjoyed the review, slàinte

I have only had the 12. It's 194.99 in my market. That might be too much for me right now. Especially with all the other 15-18 year old whisky I have. Nice job. Cheers!

The 18 is much better than the 12, but yeah considering price, stats and all the options out there it’s a tough one to pull the trigger on, but I definitely enjoyed it and will be keeping an eye out for when it’s on special

@@McIntyresMalts ha! Our time lines aligned!
For me it takes a while to figure a whisky out. I don't have the best "nose".... but so far it seems to have plenty of depth, a weird funk note which is almost cheesy or something.... smoke....a bitter sweetness (on line it says "marshmallow and orange oil"?)..
It has a kick too... refined and clean. Reminded me of drinking something like Springbank or Ledaig..a little.... anyway I hope you'll review it! I do like this very much and may even try to visit the distillery this year (about 5 hours from me)
