Thanks so much for the shoutout mate, and great review. Obviously I like the idea of comparing similar whiskies with few notable differences 😉

I love these vs series Wade, they're fun and educational at the same time! I agree with your pick. The 15 is a bit too sweet for me where the 12 with the bite it has makes me like it more. Cheers dude!

Tried them both, two great drams. For me the 12YO comes out on top, I think the total value of the 12YO is better.

I agree, I love them both, but the value of the 12 is what seals the deal.

Great review! I also enjoy the VERSUS videos, you could make that your thing haha. I think we all love comparing/contrasting wishes. I don’t remember picking up those salty notes in the 12 year old, that’s really cool.

Thanks Chris, they are a lot of fun to film!
Yeah perhaps the salty note I get is batch specific, it definitely wan't present on the 15 for me, but these are my first bottles of each.
I get the same salty note on The Macallan 12 Sherry Oak too.

I still love this format, Wade! Keep them coming. You just highlighted the law of diminishing returns when it comes to whisky. For most distilleries, getting to anything above 15 yrs gets ridiculous in terms of price. I think the Glenallachie 12 is great value. It's a punchy, rich, sherry bomb. Billy Walker and his team can do real magic with cask management! Cheers!

Interesting tasting notes. Never tasted the salt on the 12, nor any tobacco notes. I remember the 12 being even sweeter than the 15. Need to do a side by side again soon. It's really hard to pick a favorite, to me these are both must haves. The main difference that stuck with me: 12 has red fruits, 15 replaces that with figs and dates... the 15 is way more oaky with lots of tannins... but in a good way. and when side by side it's clear to me the finish on the 15 is much more intense. I picked the 15 for a really, really good price so I'm giving it the edge. Both are wonderful.

It's fascinating the different flavours that appear to different palates and amongst different batches isn't it!
Of these two the 15 was absolutely sweet, no saltiness whatsoever, but clearly present on this 12 for me. I do find for me personally on some sherried whiskies saltiness is often there in a nice contrast to the raisin type notes. Agree with you both are fantastic whiskies and I look forward to trying many more GlenAllachie expressions.
Thanks for watching and taking some time to comment my friend, it is appreciated 😉

@@McIntyresMalts I’ll try them again one of these days, try to pick those salt and tobacco notes on the 12 and rethink about the e sweetness on the 15. Just tried the Tamdhu 12 and both GlenAllachies are definitely sweeter than that for my palate! Slainthe

I bought the 12 excellent whiskey. After that I bought a sample of the 15 and I liked it more, they are different, the 15 probably feels more mature and in my opinion a better whiskey. (Let's leave the price aside for a moment, although it is important).

I tried something similar like this a few months back I had purchased The Glenfarclas 10 from Aldi for like 69 Aud and I really liked it the ex bourbon style butterscotch nose and palate the toffee and the light spices just worked really well and at only 40abv. So I bought the Glenfarclas 15 for 129 aud on special knowing full well it was more sherry barrel than ex bourbon and I really liked the 15 as well however given the chance to buy one or the other I would probably pick up two bottles of the 10 because it just hit some sweet spot for me even though it is lower age and abv. Your right with the Glenallechie 12 its priced well and I have one its great juice but would I fork out 180 for the 15, no but on special for around 150 I would think about it. Cheers mate keep up the quality reviews

Thank you brother! It's fun to do these comparisons like what you did with the Glenfarclas.
I agree on the pricing of the GA15, I got mine on special for just under $140 which is great value, but at $180 it's creeping too high (but isn't all whisky lately?)
Thanks for watching and commenting mate!

Added the 12 to my Amazon list...I did try the 15 with a little sample bottle.. but found it just too sweet... I'm a salt smoke peat guy to be honest....
I would like a mellow fruity malt though on my shelf... so I think I'll add the Arran 10 before I buy anything else. Meant to be a good one

    • @McIntyresMalts
      @McIntyresMalts  Год назад +2

The 15 is definitely sweeter whereas the 12 has more contrast with that salty note. Yes there are a few Arran expressions on my to buy list too! Just picked up the Sherry cask and the port finish I had was lovely. They are well priced too.
I can't recall if you and I spoke about Glencadam, but they have a lovely pear note if you are seeking more fruity flavours.

You should definitely try the 15 it's great. I love them both, just like the sweet / salty contrast on the 12 more as the 15 is mainly sweet only. If you like the 12 you won't be disappointed with the 15

First of all your videos are really good and i wish you all the best to get lots of viewers in future. The quality of these videos is really great and your enthusiasm really shows. As i am living in europe i can get these whiskys way cheaper than you. I can get the 12 for 42€ and the 15 for 65€. The price difference in percent is pretty much the same as for you, but the absolute value is not that far from each other. Would you reconsider your decision with a price like i can get it? I can really understand you argumentation and i can totally agree with your point, but for me i like the 15 more than the 12. Both are great, but the more harmonized mouthfeel and the sweetnes i really like more also considering the price as for me its not that big of a jump in price.

Thank you my friend I appreciate the kind words!
Wow I wish I could get these whiskies for prices like that. Price definitely plays a huge factor in our minds if we feel we got fair value in exchange for our hard earned dollars.
65 Euro for the 15 is the equivalent of $107 in my country which would absolutely change the outcome of this versus challenge for me. I love both of these whiskies, but the 15 at that price would make this my whisky of the year lol
