$1200.00 sounds like a lot of scratch, but considering the quality of that SWEET old wood and the sturdiness of the hardware you used, you couldn’t find a mass produced set of shelves anywhere near that price. And it wouldn’t look anywhere near as classy. Plus, believe me, time spent with your father making that is absolutely priceless. That’ll be in the “Fluff family” for generations.

    • @AD1978leo

There’s a product called Maker Pipe that makes all sorts of connector fittings for 3/4 EMT conduit which is very inexpensive. Fittings aren’t super cheap but affordable. Tight fittings with Allen style bolts. This is how I built my amp shelf.

    Contractor/Cabinetmaker for 52 years
You can get 2x12 fir kiln dried at a reasonable cost if you want a heavy duty option go for structural parlam beams
1.5 or 2.0 available in various depths, even though they are not oriented on edge they will be plenty strong to span on their side
Get one lvl and cut it up you’ll be surprised how reasonable they are
Call a local lumber yard and ask, I don’t know about big box stores, we have mom and pops out here still in the sticks
Also the hardware options are only as limited as you imagination
Not from old ships or a Pharaohs sarcophagus but she’ll get er done
