Thank you for watching! If you want to see the behind the scenes of my projects go check out my Instagram: instagram.com/makewithmiles/ Also I've been getting a lot of comments saying that I should gone with a tube amp or gotten nicer parts, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money on this project, and the amp I used for parts suited my needs before so that's why I used it. I use it quite frequently and it works great!
This was such a cool build and I am very proud of your abilities to create these works of art. Not to mention the amounts of inspiration I get from watching :)
I am impressed by the attention to detail you have presented in every aspect of this piece of work, from the kumiko grill, to the kerf bent corners to the turned knobs with contrasting veneer insert, to the screen printing on the control panel face-- not to mention the quality video editing. I wonder how many different workers would be needed in the factory that originally manufactured this amp to do the work you have done? Your skills are apparent, but I am truly amazed by the focus, persistence and patience you demonstrate in all of the projects that you have made for this channel. Most excellent guitar amp..
Miles, I think you did a great job with this amp. It does my heart good to see a young man like yourself taking on challenging builds like this and make them turn out so well. The amp will work very nicely with your kumiko "Strat" that I also watched you build. Very nicely done
Thank you so much, I really enjoy taking on challenges like this because I feel like I learn so much more when I am trying things that are brand new to me. Thanks for also checking out my guitar build, I appreciate it ;)
Miles! Your artist's eye for beauty and design is such a gift and I love that you take the time to develop this and explore this and learn from others. Your process reminds me of a mountaineer climbing a mountain: never mind how long it takes, never mind that things don't always go as planned, just keep moving upwards towards your goal. Thank you for sharing!
Great job....we need young people who can work with their hands. I just retired after 40 years in my trade and believe me.....very few young people are entering the trades theses days.
Wow, Miles - not only are your making skills incredibly impressive, but your video editing/production is through the roof. Your videos are so mesmerizing! Great job - thanks for the entertainment and inspiration; keep it up!
You may want to put some metal foil contact glued on the inside top so that the metal box makes a contact when it's fitted. The foil and the metal amp chassis box will then create a shield for radio frequencies/interference. Alot of old tube amps used that to shield, an easy fit! Nice work.
I'm a hobbyist woodworker and musician. I've for years had top of the line tube amplifiers and cabinets and since I've transitioned to a pedal heavy setup the only thing that matters to me is a decent clean channel with headroom. So in my experience, the amplification/power section matters much less than the cabinet/speaker pairing and construction, so your re-use of an amp you already like and pairing it with a better speaker is a great move. For my home set up I made a 1x12 with a vintage greenback and then took the electronics from a really small and crappy sounding 10 watt marshall practice amp. The crappy sound came from the really small cab and cheap speaker, but 10 watts is more than plenty for a bedroom / practice set up and it had an actual spring reverb tank so when paired with my custom cabinet, sounds really good! I've also used it on almost all of my home recordings too so the moral of the story: save your money, make something yourself and play as much as you can! I really love your knobs, so clear.
I am truly blown away on the amp transformation! The attention to detail is impeccable! You have an exceptional skillset for someone your age! You have a bright future, young man! The only thing stopping you is you! But I don't see that happening! Liked and subbed!
He has an exceptional skill set for someone anyone's age. No offence, but I read all these comments and people keep repeating that it is always exceptional for being so young, exceptional for "his age" but I doubt any of the people commenting like this come even close to having his variety of skills. Therefore, I personally find this sort of addition a bit patronizing. I would simply say, he is an exceptional man with exceptional skills and patience, period.
This is amazing!! I was already impressed after the kumiko and the veneer but then you just kept going with the screen printing and the knobs. You should be really proud of yourself!
Miles there's no reason why you shouldn't take your art and create bespoke builds for people. You craftsmanship is outstanding and I know me along with many others would be interested for sure. As an example your kumiko strat and this amp👌 would easily be able to be sold together. You have the skills and the talent to take this as far as you want to my friend.
To see the younger generation taking time to rebuild is totally awesome. This does sort of show that these people are spending quality time being productive instead of being destructive. Hats off to you kids. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙈🙊🙉😲😎😺🇺🇸
Haha thank you! Shooting in 4k is definitely a bit of a sacrifice for the storage on my computer but I think it is worth it because of the crispness ;) thanks for watching
@@MakeWithMiles oh absolutely! I know that deal, haha. The first time I recorded one in 4K, I definitely had to go through my harddrive get rid of some stuff! So worth it though!
Very nice build! Just one thought if you’re ever inside this thing again for whatever reason. If you ever open it back up, you might want to add some adhesive backed copper or other type of foil to the inside top (and part of the sides) of the box. Make sure it makes good contact with an unpainted part of the metal chassis. If needed scrape some paint off underneath where the chassis is screwed to the box. This does not require much work, but makes the amp completely shielded, making for less susceptibility to interference. I know, not necessary, but it did go through my head when watching. Again: top notch build!
I’m surprised you chose not to add straps or handles to the top or sides. Very classy looking upgrade. The custom knobs would look pretty good on pedals too!
This is def because the time this was released, but hearing two different royalty free songs that City Planner Plays runs on loop is TRIPPY Insanely cool stuff man, I can't believe you're doing all of this so young. Using all of your vids for inspiration!
God Miles, I’m gonna be honest you’re my #1 favorite of the makers on RUclips. This was such a clean build and I, personally, am very satisfied with how beautiful it turned out. You’re gonna go far man i’m proud of you. Definitely a big inspiration to me. Keep it up :))

Well kiddo, you got this old man's attention. You earned my subscription with the first video i watched (kumiko guitar), im stickin around to see what you can do. Seriously impressed.
So good dude! So many disciplines thrown into one video. It turned out amazing. Great idea to use a kumiko panel as a speaker grill. Can't wait for that future tube amp build one day with a full stack 😉.
Wow! So awesome! I have an old Johnson Amplification Millennium stereo 150 amp that I wanted to make a walnut cabinet for. I am inspired by your video to give it a try. Thanks for sharing!
Great results, really cool idea to improve that amp! I am not sure I would have thought to use the knobs to line up the panel and the veneer. The screen printing looks excellent.
I came across your channel rn at 29k subs. I'll come back to this comment when you're at a 1m subs. I know you're gonna get to a mil soon. Stay safe when you're using those tools!!
Dude! That looks incredible! I’d love to have this as a head shell for my tube amp! I bet you’d sell a ton of custom amps if you paired this with a custom amp builder!
Agreed! With a proper high-end amp/speaker combo, this would be amazing. The craftsmanship in the enclosure is incredible, its a shame its a cheap amp inside - this level of work deserves a matched high-end amp! Either boutique, or something like a 5150 lunchbox or Blackstar.

Nice work! Lovely to see the shirts from other makers too. One suggestion... maybe you could find a local leather worker and get a custom handle made for the top of the amp?
Really outstanding craftsmanship! I am impressed with all of your techniques and choices. One suggestion as a guitar player with years of experience, is to cover the control panel with some clear protective material. After years of use and cleaning the original lettering and surface will fade and become hard to keep clean. Minor point for a great project.
Wow, the retro Asian design aesthetic is super clean! Awesome build. The setbacks and challenges are only making you a stronger Maker. Way to go, Miles! 👍👍
