Car Trends That NEED TO DIE!

  • In this no-holds-barred video, we're diving into the 10 Car Trends that absolutely NEED TO DIE in 2024. From absurd paid subscription features to the demise of tactile controls, we're breaking down everything that's been grinding our gears and should have been left in the dust of yesteryear.
    What’s Grinding Our Gears:
Paid Features in Cars: Are car manufacturers getting too greedy with subscription-based features for things your car already has? We think so. From remote start to performance upgrades, it's becoming a pay-to-play world.
Touchscreen Tyranny: The move to replace every button and knob with a touchscreen might look sleek, but is it practical or safe? We're calling for a return to tactile controls.
Gimmicky Gear Shifters: With manual transmissions fading, the least we can ask for is a straightforward way to shift gears. No more dials and buttons, please.
Plastic Overload: Whether it's cladding or engine covers, the plastic takeover is real, and we're not fans. Let's see more of the car, not less.
The Big Grill Illusion: Grills are getting bigger, but not necessarily better. We're all for functional design, but let's keep it real.
Low-Profile Tire Trend: Bigger isn't always better, especially when it comes to wheels and tires. We're advocating for comfort and practicality on the roads.
We Want to Hear From You!

Another trend is features that you turn off in your car just for them to turn back on again when you restart the car.

Paid subscription features for cars is definitely a trend that should die! It’s definitely some “You’ll own nothing and you’ll be happy” WEF bullshit. And giant grills and fake exhausts are ridiculously stupid!

Fake exhaust ports remind me of when I got a big toy fire engine for Christmas when I was 9. It was so cool because it had a siren & a water reservoir + a hose to shoot water, but even then I knew it couldn't extinguish real fires. Don't try to sell me a Tonka...I'm a grown man now!!

You touched on headlights, but I think "brights" deserve their own mention. Its like there's an arms race going on in the world of headlights to see who can have the most blinding headlights. People in my town drive around with their brights on non-stop if there's so much as a sprinkle of rain. Brights should be automatically disabled when there's a vehicle ahead of you. It would be easy AF to accomplish, but they just let people gonaround blinding each other all night every night. Please, turn your brights off people....

iirc, Audi (I believe it was) haf sensors that could detect oncoming traffic and automatically dim them. It didn't meet archaic US safety regulations though, so we don't get them. Just like the camera side mirrors

You can blame bullshit US legislation for that and also the bullshit regulations that make every vehicle have 0° headlamps regardless of how high they ride. RIP eyeballs when a new truck is oncoming.

Great vid & points. This very odd trend of very modern vehicle comes with low profile tires is insane so many are getting screwed especially ones that dont go to the track, live near a place with bad roads, and arent that knowledgeable on tires why the heck a honda accord corolla & more needs those type of tires?

I'm doing an upper control arm replacement upgrade along with an inner CV boot replacement on my NB miata.
I also needed to replace the fuel filter in the rear of the car, and the Fuel "damper" on the fuel rail.
But I've pulled apart the entire driveline on that car. None of it was really hard to do. I even rebuilt the engine. Again, not all that challenging.
The only thing I've worked on that was easier is an EG Civic. That car is stupid-easy to work on.
Here's to the hay day of automobiles.
      Cheers.

The only ones I partly disagree with are the reimagined gear selectors and the "ridiculous" headlights, but I don't care whether they're gone or not.

    • @christopherlowery855
      @christopherlowery855 Месяц назад +1

You would if you accidentially put your car in park when reaching for the volume knob.
You would if you had to replace one of those over-complicated headlights.
A headlight should have 3 bulbs, that's the extent of the complication. Things were bad enough with ballasts, HIDs, and projectors. We could still deal with that. But the multiple projector LEDs, all with intependent circuit controllers, all bundled into one overly expensive unit is the gripe here.
The days when a $24 pair of Xenon bulbs meant a serious upgrade, to your nighttime forward view, are long gone. The minor benefit just doesn't justify the increased cost of these headlight assemblies.
Despite the hype, LEDs often go out faster than incandescents. The problem isn't with the diode itself, but rather the controlling circuit board.
There's a lot to go into, just know that the complaints are well justified.
      Cheers.

To be honest with you, reimagined gear selectors are kind of a pain in the ass. But I can get used to them overtime because my 2007 Mercedes S350 has one too.

    Now you're speaking my language!
Yes! All of those trends are cancer.
You forgot the removal of mechanical linkages everywhere.
You also forgot plastic engine components. A plastic oil pan on a Coyote engine with an integrated plastic windage tray? A stray pebble from a rock truck will shatter that thing. Things were bad enough with RTV and aluminum pans, but this is on a whole new level of disposible engine. What's next, Carbon fiber engine block?
Still, all of these are why I have a hard time being interested in new cars. Its like being constantly reminded that the role model you loved as a child is dead. Sure, to those who didn't know your role model, or didn't even look up to this person the same way, such a reminder is inconsequential. However, to me, it's just a depressing reminder that no new car is a good car. There's just better new cars than others. At least the ND miata has an aluminum valve cover. So somone is making wise decisions.
Overall, every one of these points I completely agree with. Just like the cancer microtransactions in the gaming industry, it has now caught on in the car industry. "Boycott these companies" has been my response. BMW might rethink their strategy once they stop making money. Something has to give. I'm just waiting for everyone else to realize that new cars are worse, not better. The only place this IS NOT the case is, with the world of motorsports and exotics. They're still setting insane records. My gripe is with the completely disposible path production vehicles have, and are going down. $30k is not a drop in the bucket, but we're treated like it's $400. Even if a new car was $1000, the disposible aspect would be reasonable. But they're not.
New cars are a scam, that's all I'm saying.
You guys seem more hopeful than I. The ND Miata is the only glimmer of hope I see.
Everything good was cancelled. The new Z takes multiple days just to replace downpipes... Apparently.
The days of easy maintenance seem long gone.
Maybe I'm missing some finer detail somewhere.
    Change my mind.
    Cheers.

Carbon fiber trim needs to die. It is way over played. It is getting to be rice at this point with the steering wheels, mirror caps, and etc.😂😂
Low profile tires are here to stay as long as brakes keep getting bigger, vehicles continue to be faster, and cars getting lower. Folks have to just be careful while driving to avoid potholes.
