Omgosh!!!!!!! We had never built anything til we jumped off grid in 2015..... when u said a 4x8 isn't 4 ft across.... this explains why even when we measured our 16 on center correctly we kept messing up at the end!!!! I thought it was us all this time every time we build something. I cannot wait to tell my husband this. Ty for all this info.... I'm mad we never thought to measure the actual plywood.... makes me feel so stupid lol but I'm so glad to learn it today as we have one more build to go.
It does make it very frustrating when you try to build something a certain size.
@@DeepSouthHomestead my husband called on first break from work and I told him.... and he thanks you so much! Tho, we both feel pretty stupid for not measuring the boards lol who knew 4x8 didn't mean 4x8, not us ! Lol any how, I sure hope u filmed more of the build in this style.... honestly it was the best floor build and explanation I've seen on you tube... in real language and visually something I totally understood. Thank you!
Lay the middle sheet first and then go both ways to the end. Gives you a little more play that way.
4x8 sheets are most definitely a true 4x8 you may have thought your 16 on center was correct but actually it was probably wrong . When starting layout you actually mark 15 1/4 mark your line and put an x in the direction you pulled . Put your board in the x side up against the line
@@NewsThatMatterUsa thank you for this! We have another build coming up and this will for sure help out.
From one Carpenter in the South to another - that's a fine piece of work you did there!
Danny, you are a true Craftsman 🙂👍🏻🇺🇸
Being a builder here in Australia, now retired, always interesting to see how building is done elsewhere.
Good job Danny.
Thanks for taking us along. Blessings! 🙏❤️😃
Danny, good instructional voice overs at key points in the project. Helpful. Enjoyable.
Very well done.Nice Brian helped you back then.He is building thier new porch now back East.Be well and continued Blessing's building you all's CC Cabin.♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡....
This was such a beautiful thing to watch, thank you for sharing. My husband is 56 and thinks he's too old to start something like this. You both are a great encouragement. God bless.
Its been 20 years since I did any "real" framing...I didn't know a sheet of plywood wasn't 4'x8' anymore...I guess it was just a matter of time! Great video.
Ppl should demand better or demand a refund
I've never seen support beams laying flat before. Interesting way to do it. Thanks for sharing.
Way overbuilt; I like it.
I sure am glad to see you building a cabin. I enjoy the way you meticulously do everything from a building to restoring the cub. You explain everything so well. Wishing you and Miss Wanda the best.
Absolutely one of the best training films on youtube, thanks so much!
What a great job Danny and Wanda . Shame so many so called builders , certainly here in Australia , don’t follow in your footsteps . Thank you and may God continue to Bless you both
Exceptional flooring, D & W! Can't wait to see more!👍🏻👍🏻
Dude you make me want to work with you to learn some old school secrets!

Enjoyed your Video. I love the fact your wife is there with you. Look forward to seeing more videos!
Very informative and the first video I’ve Seen that explains how to connect the joists
I love your method it looks like it'd be better support than using those hangers .. I've definitely learned something thank you so much.
Amazing work.
Now that looks solid!
Really enjoyed watching. Thanks
That's is the most beautiful flooring !
GOOD VIDEO , GOOD JOB, AND GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR BUILD. LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOUR PROGRESS.
We have been really enjoying following your cabin build. Thanks for sharing.
This is how to do a solid, quality build. Impressive knowledge and skills. I like that you explain the rationale about some of your methods, it is so helpful. Keep up the good work. God bless.
Screws are not the proper way.
Looks fantastic!
Watching your video again ❤❤👍👍👍
Pretty cool thanks for the video.
Very informative video. I will be building our cabin soon and I will refer to this video often.
Danny I REALLLLY am enjoying this and learning so much! I like the softer music and the cutaway from work to tell us what's going on. Thanks and looking forward to more!
Absolutely, well done video presentations !!!
I'm so glad it's a blessing to you.
instablaster.
My cabin is 20x20 with a triple beam down the center. 24" above the ground so I can get under to work, and for storage. I like the way you did yours.
I can’t wait for your next progress
This was fascinating to watch for me.
Great job!
Thank you so much for this video
This man been there and done it a few times. I'd love to have some of his knowledge thanks for the video.
Can I hire you Danny! LOL LOL Great job!
Thank you guys for this information! I want to do this too! God bless
My family's 140 + year old farm house recently burned down. It was a post and beam construction and the floor joices were slotted into the sill beams same for the ceiling joices on the top beam. The post were mortissed into the beams. Amazingly strong construction. Will miss the old place.
So sorry to hear about that.
Old school, no nail gun. Nice roundhouse overalls, Oklahoma made. There one of the best overalls 👌
I have been wearing Roundhouse for nearly 20 years. I love them
VERY INTERESTING
Thank you for explaining things that most would not. Like the widths of playwood. And how to measure on 16 centers.
Great video, fixing to build my second house, a first with peir and beam tho. Thank you Sir for this video.
Great Danny! I would love to do that someday 😁
Awesome big project😍👍
That looks solid. Nice work
Thank you, a wealth of information.
Yet to try it but looks pretty informative and well explained. I'll let you know.
Nice Job
Nice work.
looks nice
Thank you for posting this wonderful video. You are straight scholl! Do it right! Or don't do it at all! I respect your build ethics!!
This video was so helpful. I really want to build a small house / cabin but I've too scared to start because I didn't know where to start. Your video has given so much more confidence in my understanding of this process.
I have subscribed to show my support.
Thank you again.
I love watching your Vito Fran Mississippi
Cool dude
You got a good 'un with Wanda.
bout to start a 12 x 32 cabin here thanks for the tips !!!
well itturned into a 14x32 lol but got the floor joist framed yesterday and the decking down today once again thanks for the tips!!!
thanks from Chile.
I really appreciate your videos. Question. How is the second 2x10 (rim joist) attached to the vertical 2x10 directly below it? Thanks again Danny!
Nice video
So nice 👍
Nice work
Thank you for sharing this video....learning so much. Greatly appreciated. Blessings
Way to go Wanda:)
What great build series . I thought that you were going to lay the floor joists on top of the flat sill plate at first when you doubled up the sides . I was thinking the joists would push down on the flat sill plate but I see that you put a single board on top of the double sill and hang the floor joists that . What a great idea . No need for a bunch of hangers . Like the way you put blocking where all of the floor plywood ends will be . Smart . Not depending on the tongue & groove to hold up the plywood . Certainly a master craftsman at work . Smart in putting that double 2X10 for the load bearing wall and knowing where that wall is going to go. Looking forward to your next video on this build series .
Yes I agree...I am used to seeing the joist done on the sills
But, it looks like the whole floor is ‘floating’ the entire span (no support posts underneath that whole span) on all 4 sides!?! Is that a correct observation, or did I miss the part of the video where support posts are intermingled within the outer 4 sides? How big is this building’s floor plan? Thanks!
@@briha3142 16x32
Thanks a lot man I plan on adding on to. My mobile home and this helps a great deal please I hope you have a video showing how you installed the concrete blocks (the base)
Nice
Thank you Danny and Wonda for sharing all that you have. What size is your cabin? May the Lord continue to Bless and keep you both.
16 x 32 ft
Thank you, can't wait to see each step of your building adventure! :-)
Wanda is a great hand
This helped a ton, if you're doing a second floor is the rim joist on sill setup the same?
Danny, if only you were paid two-bits for every swing of that hammer you've swung over the years! You know some good practices Danny. Thanks for sharing.
Hi there Danny, it is new to me to see how you put the rim joist on top off the sill. I seen many examples where they build on top of a beam...can you explain your method...it looks great!
Hey! Great job. Could you do a video on how to make your concrete pillars?
There should be a video in the playlist on that.
Great video Danny thanks for sharing. Just curious, why did you use treated wood for the joists in the field as opposed to just the rims and sills?
Its all out of treated wood in the deep South termites are real bad.
good morning
Simply can't do a bush build video without a dog, nice!
Do you have a video on creating the concrete piers and anchors you used? New subscriber. Thanks for sharing
Are the rim joists nailed to the sill?
Just found your channel and I love it.
❤
Did you use treated floor joists because there isn't a solid block foundation ?
Hello there. Is that timber tannalized treated. If so tannalizing makes the timber brittle in time and it brakes very easily. We have found that untreated timber is better and to treat it yourself has you use it.
Is there no need for center piers? Also, why did you choose pier and beam over slab on grade?
Great Job, Thanks For Sharing. I Noticed You Used Screws Early On and Then Were Nailing Afterwards, Any Reason? I Discovered The Torx Drive Screws and Are Now My GoTo Screws, Were You Using Phillips Head? Plywood Measurement Is Good To Keep In Mind... #GoFigure
why did you stack the rim joists? To keep from using joist hangers?
