- *A Sun-Drenched Day in Ketchikan 🌞*
We started our day in Ketchikan on the top deck of the ship, basking in glorious sunshine. Considering Ketchikan is reputed to be the wettest place in Alaska, we felt incredibly lucky to be greeted by such beautiful weather.
🐬 *Dolphin Sightings!* 🐬
As we passed the side of the ship, we were thrilled to see some wildlife activity. We believe they were dolphins gracefully gliding alongside us. It was a magical moment to witness these creatures up close.
🍽️ *Breakfast with Brendan* 🍽️
For breakfast, we caught up with our head server, Brendan, in Triton’s. We were heading to the supermarket, so we asked if he needed anything, hoping to help him pick up bits that might not be available on the ship. For our meal, we enjoyed a delightful combination of Mickey waffles and the DCL express breakfast, which included the usual sausage, bacon, and egg combinations.
📸 *A Chance Encounter with Mickey and Donald* 📸
Just as we were about to disembark and explore Ketchikan, we had a surprise encounter with the main man himself, Mickey Mouse, and the legendary Donald Duck. Naturally, we stopped for a quick photo opportunity with these iconic characters.
🚶♂️ *A Time-Lapse Walk to Safeway* 🚶♂️
We took a time-lapse walk from the ship port to the local Safeway supermarket, where we discovered a Starbucks outlet selling the coveted "Been There" series mugs. After our shopping, we hopped on the free shuttle bus back to the ship, which was incredibly convenient.
🛍️ *Bargain Hunting and Creek Street Adventure* 🛍️
Next, we hit the shops in search of more Alaskan T-shirts at cut prices. Then, we took a walk to the historic Creek Street. Historically, Creek Street was Ketchikan's red-light district during the Prohibition era, where "sporting women" conducted their business. Today, it’s a picturesque boardwalk lined with quaint shops, museums, and galleries. While exploring Creek Street, we were delighted to see seals playing in the water below.
🍔 *Lunch and Sweet Treats* 🍔
We reboarded the ship and headed to Pete’s Boiler Bites for some poolside food. I opted for a simple yet satisfying cheeseburger. Later, we retreated to our room and treated ourselves to warm cookies via room service.
🎭 *A Sudden End to the Day* 🎭
The day ended abruptly after watching a ventriloquist show in the theatre. Unfortunately, I experienced the worst bout of sickness I’ve ever had, likely food poisoning. This illness wiped me out for 36 hours. Disney did their best to offer medication, but honestly, I’ve never been so sick in my life.
Despite the unfortunate end, the day was filled with sunshine, wildlife sightings, and delightful encounters. Stay tuned for more of our Alaskan adventures! 🌲✨

we loved ketchikan! i wish we knew about the starbucks mugs at the golden nugget store! we didnt want to walk to the starbucks store haha!! So sorry the ending of your cruise wasnt what you had planned! :(
Ketchikan was the cutest little place. It was a long walk to the Starbucks 🤦♀️ especially to then find the one we wanted in the golden nugget 😂
Sam lucked out getting that Been there Series mug, as they were discontinued and all just marked out to make way for the new series you got from Safeway (I'm blanking on the name). That may be your last Been there from a Vacation! (I can only imagine how that store ended up with those)
We ended up with both. 😂 went to Safeway and got the other one first and then saw the Been there one. I think the new ones are called Discovery Series.

Oh my gosh we were on the same cruise and I got food poisoning from the ship on our Juneau day. Came on quick and violent! Missed most of our Juneau day and felt a bit off until basically the end of the cruise. I sympathize with this!! So glad you felt well enough to get home on time though.
