  • A Day at Icy Strait Point: Whales, Bears, and Unforgettable Views 🐋🐻
    Good Morning, Icy Strait Point!
Our day began with the ship docking at Icy Strait Point, a charming port nestled in the heart of Alaska. As we stood on the deck, we were greeted by an incredible sight: whales swimming past the rear of the ship, with puffs of water visible along with their majestic tails. What a start to the day! 🌊
    Breakfast on Board
We started the day with a delightful continental breakfast delivered to our room, complemented by some hot Mickey Churro waffles from Cabanas - a rare speciality item on these cruises.
    Bear Search Adventure
Disembarking the ship, we met our tour guide for the first part of our Whale and Bear Search Combo. Our bear search began with a 45-minute drive to a bear trail. On the way, we encountered a bear standing right in the road, looking directly at us! We paused to let him decide his path before he wandered off. During our 45-minute walk along the trail, we spotted two more bears from a distance. It was thrilling to see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.
    Whale Watching Excursion
Returning to Icy Strait Point, we boarded a small boat for our whale watching tour. As we ventured into the sea, a pod of porpoises sped past our boat, an early arrival according to our captain. We then encountered a group of seals fighting for space on a floating light. The highlight of this trip was seeing multiple whales, including a spectacular breach. Capturing a picture of a whale tail against the backdrop of snowcapped mountains was a dream come true. This experience, although expensive at around $800, was worth every penny.
    Lunch and Gondola Rides
Back on the ship, we grabbed some lunch before heading to the adventure centre to explore more of Icy Strait Point. We rode the two gondola systems, each offering unique views of this stunning area. The green gondola provides free transport between the two docks, while the red gondola, included in our tour package, took us up the mountain for breathtaking views. The descent showcased the stunning Alaskan landscape once more.
Coastal Walk and Crab House Visit
After our gondola ride, we took a scenic coastal walk to the Crab House, where we sampled half a Dungeness crab fresh from the Alaskan waters. It was a delicious way to savour the local cuisine.
    Evening Delights
After an action-packed day, we took a short break in our room before dinner. Before heading to Triton’s restaurant, we met Mirabel and Bruno, two characters we had yet to encounter. Our meal at Triton's was a culinary delight, featuring escargot, breaded brie, French onion soup, lamb chop, steak, and salmon. We topped off the meal with a strawberry sundae, a soufflé, and a Mickey-shaped premium ice cream bar.
A Perfect End to the Day
Returning to our room, we were greeted with a towel rabbit and chocolates on the bed, a perfect end to an unforgettable day.

Thank you so much for sharing this video! it's been tricky to find info like what you shared on Icy Strait Point. Great tips included about walking back from the Green skylliner vs riding it back and that Cabanas is open early when it's an early port day. We sail at the beginning of September on our first ever cruise and so appreciate all your helpful info!

Icy Strait looks really nice but my cruise is going to Skagway instead but looks like my next Alaskan cruise might have to be this itinerary!

Ivy Strait Point was AMAZING! My ideal three stop itinerary would be, Icy Strait Point, Ketchikan and Skagway. I need to go on the mountain train 🚞
