One thing my professor taught us on the first day of our cruise course is that every passenger has the right line for them. This is no question NOT the one for me. Cruising with that many kids and no drink package . . . hell at sea.

Second dining/first theater show is DEFINITELY the way to go on Disney Cruises! Perk: If you HAVE kids on this schedule, the kids club will come and pick your kids up from the tail end of dinner, so you can finish your meal in peace with a glass of wine, and then go hang out sans kids for the evening hours. It's better planned out than any other cruise we've ever been on in that regard.

Just Great Broadway calibre shows. Plus their theatre also shows current movies- we watched Wreck It Ralph and Frozen 2 on board one of their ships before it was released to the public. They're also the only cruise line that can do 🎆 from their ships. Not to mention their service is unmatched. That alone is worth the price difference to me.

I went on a 7 day cruise to the Caribbean with my family of 4 in a balcony cabin on Carnival out of Miami in August. With prepaid gratuities it was $2,700. My coworker went on a 3 night cruise on Disney with her family of 5 in December and it was $11,000. There are a lot of factors that play to the price, but that’s a hell of a difference. I’m so happy my boys never really cared for Disney. But, for those who do I’m sure it’s a wonderful experience.

I just got off our Disney Cruise. The tipping envelopes came with a sheet of paper that told your servers and steward what their tip was. You were just expected to put the sheet of paper into the envelop and give it to the staff with your thanks. You could put additional amounts if you wished, but there was no pressure to do so. Once I saw what was expected, I was completely fine with the process. We went on this cruise with a discount, so it was very much worth the cost.

This was a well-balanced review. Having seen your instagram posts I was afraid you were totally bummed out by it. I still think a 3-day cruise is just too intense on any cruise line. I have been on DCL six times -- we do the door decorating and fish extenders -- but I confess that my in-laws paid for it (indulgent grandparents that they are -- they are in their 80s and also cruise Disney without children or grandchildren!). I'd never be able to afford it on our own and wouldn't spend that kind of money if I could do two cruises for the same amount of money.

It's absolutely crucial that people pick the right cruise for themselves and their family. I am not a fan of budget cruising, and I would be miserable in a Carnival Cruise, or something similar. Cruises like Disney or Viking are more expensive, but there is a certain level of service and care that makes it worth every penny. It's important that people do their research. Can I ask why you think you would be miserable on a Carnival Cruise? There is lots to see and do on those ships as well as RCCL & Others. No they aren't Disney but that's the whole point, every cruiseline offers something different that is what allows them to all still be around. No judgement just curious since it doesn't sound like you've ever cruised Carnival.

I completely agree! With our kids we go on Disney cruises. We did try a Royal Caribbean Cruise and surprisingly our teenager was not a fan. He called RCCL the McDonalds of the seas bc the icecream machine never worked. Our younger girls liked it, but my husband and I were not fans of the kids clubs bc they seemed to close too much. When it’s just my husband and myself, we don’t mind going on a Carnival cruise. We love to people watch and there are definitely some interesting people on the cruise. The service is not that great but we enjoy the comedy club, guys burgers, and the “let loose” feel. We want to try other cruiselines but our kids love Disney. We plan to retire in Florida and will try many cruiselines. We really just love cruising!

We had passenger cabins and did anything they did and we could go to crew areas. They have their own bars on deck 1 on the bow and stern. Beer was much cheaper and we usually ate in the crew mess which was free. It was a cool job but a few times I was stuck on it for 2 months. On a normal cruise (non-covid times), there is live music (usually they have a band, singers etc around the ship), they have more variety acts and keep the adult areas open later at night with a DJ, comedy shows, live music etc. They also have more parties on top deck that include fireworks and buffets. There are definitely some significant differences in Disney Cruises Pre vs Post Covid. (The shorter buffet hours is a Covid thing) And also between cruises out of the UK vs the US. Personally I have gone to the Buffet 2 or 3 times across all the times I have cruised with Disney. I prefer the full service restaurants (my wife prefers room service) If you are cruising without kids the 2nd dining rotation is the way to go. And even on a longer cruise with a "formal" night, it is never required to dress up. (Unless you go to Palo or Remy)

My family got to take a Disney cruise back in 2004. And I mean my WHOLE family (cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents, etc). It was a Christmas gift from my late great grandmother. I was 10 at the time so a Disney Cruise was right up my ally. I loved the free sodas, the black and white restaurant with the animated drawings, the swimming, and the kids club, of course. We all had an amazing time and made so many wonderful memories together there. One of the highlights of my childhood, for sure.
That said, could I see myself ever going on a Disney cruise again? Probably not, if I'm being honest. If nothing else, it's too pricey for what it offers. My family was only able to go back then thanks to my great grandmother's remaining life savings. On our own, my parents would have never been able to afford the trip, even if it had just been for my sister and I. I got a ton of value out of it as a kid for it to ultimately be worth the cost, but that was almost 20 years ago. I'm sure things have changed on the ship since then, especially in a post-covid world, and I'm not as big on Disney as I used to be. I remember there being some adults-only things to do on the shipt, but unless you're obsessed with Disney as an adult, this cruise is mainly for the kids to enjoy. If I had kids of my own, I'm sure they would absolutely love it. But for adults, I think there might be better alternatives out there.

As someone with 50+ cruises with Disney, here is my list of tips and tricks:
Wear your swim suit under clothes when you get on board, and go straight to the pool. Most pools will always be crowded so change in a bathroom if you carry a swim suit in a bag, or take off everything and start swimming before all the crowds. When things start picking up, you can go to one of the all you can eat buffets if you haven’t already stuffed your face with top deck food.
If you are going to go to castaway key, do the marathon (even if you aren’t a fitness person) and you will be able to get extra island and a better choice of beach chairs time after you finish (you are also not required to run at any point)
On the magic/wonder on deck 8 there is a secret entrance to cabanas at the very very end, you’ll have to go up a spiraling staircase! Very secret.
Bring a water bottle and/or a water cooler to refill at the drink station instead of using the small cups
Use the cups at the drink station for ice cream instead of the small ice cream cones.
The calmest area in sail away is the back of the ship, enjoy the party for awhile and then enjoy the peace of watching land fade into the horizon.
You can order cocktails from bars to be delivered to your dining table!
You can also order menu items from the restaurants to your room (depending) and most room service items are free :)
Med bay carries items for sea sickness if you need it
Definitely go to the muster station, even if it’s no longer required, not only for safety but also because it helps you get a better lay out of the ship if anything unfortunate does happen.
Look for hidden mickeys! There everywhere!
You can split the bed, but you will have to ask guest services or a steward to do it for you.
Get magnetic or hooked/hangers bags for toiletries so your bathroom isn’t crowded and you have everything roll around inside.
The rooms at the back of the boat (aft) rock less, and the closer forward the more the boat will sway. If you have sea sickness, plan to have a room at the back.
If you are one of the last people on castaway key, lots of shovels, buckets, sand castle stuff is left by people. If you are planning on going to more beaches after take advantage.
You can request to dine alone, (without another family at the table) but you will have to request this on the first couple days as seating is limited.
If something isn’t up to the Disney standard (rarely happens) let someone know (politely of course) and they will do everything they can to make it right. We had a room smell like… well, pee. And we got free cups, fruit bowl, and we the problem continues, we got to party on the Mickey slide (this was on the fantasy) at pirate night (this is not a normal thing lol, and I got a ton of pics hahahah) but please be cretinous and don’t complain just to get free stuff!!!!
There are lots of Disney outlet stores near Port Canaveral, so save money buying stuff from there instead of paying for expensive items on the cruise.
There’s lots more but that’s all I can remember rn.

I am a huge Disney fan. Yes, we are a different breed of people ha ha! For reference, I'm a grown woman and my kids are in their early 20's. They love Disney too as we have taken them to the parks since they were little. My husband and I have recently started going by ourselves without the kids (and they are jealous). With that said, I don't think I'd want to take a Disney cruise. The price has kept us away and now that our kids are grown, I guess we never got around to it. I think we are more suitable for the traditional cruise lines, plus my husband likes to gamble and Disney doesn't have a casino. Maybe one day when I have grand children! Great video and I definitely appreciate your honesty!

I have thankfully passed my Disney love down to my 2 pass holder children. 😂 We've been on 10 cruises with Disney and love it, but we did start when the kids were pretty young too. I appreciate your review of Disney and im glad you enjoyed it. It is expensive but i feel if you have kids that love Disney it is a good value. There is so much for the kids to do and they are in supervised areas. We almost never saw my brothers kids till meal times as they where so ingrossed in the club activities. I do not think other cruises due as much for kids as Disney does. When my daughter graduated from high school I took her on one of the European Disney cruises. My friends all laughed and asked why Disney. I just felt safe on that brand w her. I was only on carnival before and wasnt too impressed. Still has the party hook up image of them. Didnt want to worry about that atmosphere. Just felt safer and more family centered on Disney. I have since been on other cruise lines. Some I will do again others no. Some companies look after their ships others don't. I enjoy that old world feel and atmosphere on the disney cruise. My dream is to do a transatlantic one w my grand children.

We jumped off the coast of Florida and sailed through the Caribbean stopping in Mexico and at Disney's island. I fondly remember a) almost winning $100 (a lot of money to me) in a Disney trivia contest, b) all you can eat soft serve, and c) when I didn't want dessert one night and said to the waiter 'I want nothing for dessert' and he came back with a chocolate sauce on a plate spelling out 'nothing' and had sprinkles on.
    God I loved that

For example - during NCAA football/basketball season I always decorate in my Alma Mater with pictures of players, stats, Pom poms, and the schedule. I also make sure I sport my college on my clothing as well - except on formal nights. This theme often results in many lively conversations with other cruisers, which is part of the motivation for the door decor and “theme.” It just makes the cruise a bit more fun and tons of fun to plan for!!!

We also have a maximum price we'll pay for a Disney cruise (about $225 per night per person), so there's usually only a few options in a year that fit into our schedule 😂

Booking early, on the first day of release ~18 months out, is the best price and it only increases from day one. Yes, DCL sails full (relative to past and current conditions). Here is a different perspective from a longtime Disney Cruiser: The one thing for our family that has just made sense over the years of taking our now teenage children is that it is the EASIEST way to get a vacation WITH children. By this I mean, we are Orlando residents and even being annual passholders and going to the parks whenever we want, it is still exhausting to take kids in and out of a car, put in stroller, walk parks, get out for rides and dinner, go all night, rinse and repeat. We have found for ourselves that cruising Disney allowed my husband to actually get a break from all that and just enjoy playing with our kids and making memories. We never had to worry if they were fussy as we could immediately go back to room, or if they were in need of food, it was immediately available, no lines and no need to "look up" a restaurant or make a reservation or in the old days manage fast passes. We never need a 'vacation after the vacation' on a Disney cruise unlike if we were to go to WDW or quite frankly any other destination on land. But I completely understand where a single woman with no kids would not entirely like DCL. For us though, we look at other cruise lines as tacky and dated (We made the mistake of taking our honeymoon on RC). We also are not gamblers or drinkers so for us, other cruise lines have never been appealing. However, I do see how some cruise lines are becoming a bit more classier and have events we would enjoy. We did take DCL to the British Isles in 2018 and understand how weather could affect how you view your time onboard as well. Having Castaway Cay to visit really adds to the enjoyment of a Disney Cruise as well and I can't image having only cold and wet weather. Thank you for your perspective, this is just our experience with kids. :>)

Things I love about Disney: smaller ships, larger staterooms, separate shower and toilet in cabin, full ship promenade, adult spaces and pool, spa facilities (rainforest), cast members, responsiveness of customer service, free soda drinking water available, characters, first run movies, Disney/Marvel/Star Wars movie series in silk theater, Broadway quality live entertainment, food quality and responsiveness to special dietary needs, and the best for last - they allow you to bring wine and/or beer onboard at embarkation and at every port!!!! We have never had any issues with unruly children or teens on any of our cruises. If you want to have a more adult experience it is best to use the sit down restaurants for dining, choose the later dining option or schedule into the specialty restaurants.

But your takes on Cabanas (and off peak food options in general) and late night adult options is something that I completely agree with. Are you planning a food-specific video? Just wondering what you liked and didn’t like about not only the restaurants, but the quick deck 9 options. I feel like those need some updating and additional late night hours too.

That is totally fair! Nope I wasn’t planning to, I didn’t really eat all that much because the cruise was short. Was mostly the noise that I didn’t like, food was good 👍🏼😀

I was really curious to see how you liked the Disney Cruise. Good job Emma. You tried it, you now know that it's not for you. As an adult without a child to take that cruise with, you really REALLY have to be a crazy over Disney FAN! Too bad you couldn't take your niece on that one and experience it with a child. That would have been a whole new perspective. Disney is not a cookie cutter cruise line, it's Disney At Sea and therefore, you pay the price of Disney.

This was a really helpful video! I’m taking my 4 year old to the obligatory Disney World visit in April. I was thinking that a Disney cruise with her when she’s a little older, 7 or 8 years old might be more enjoyable then braving the ride lines at the Park. I’ve cruised once before more than a decade ago with Carnival from New Orleans to the Yucatán and my least favorite part of the trip was time aboard ship. Yet, your video makes it seem that she’d have a lot of fun if we did the Disney cruise and seeing her having fun is probably worth the crazy price in order to make lasting memories. Thanks again!

Actually the experiences for younger age kids on the ship are better than in the parks. Rooms are close by for naps, childcare is so available, lots of experiences for adults with or with out kids. We have taken our grandkids several times under 6 yrs, but park visits are reserved for 6 and over!

Okay, this is my second video since discovering your channel with yesterday's video of cancelled cruise. Again with the attitude. Such a positive way of seeing things and looking at life in general. That has to come from your parents, so I commend them. I came here today because I specifically wanted to see a Disney review and you didn't disappoint even when it's not your cup of tea. (is that a British-ism?) I miss those, my family and I lived in the UK for a short time (Americans). I'll show my wife this video because I want to take a Disney Caribbean cruise and I'm trying to convince her. With so much negativity in the world, there's a lot of angry people that could learn from you. Keep of the great work/videos and keep up the positivity. I'll keep watching.

My son, his wife and two grandchildren are nearly "All Disney All The Time" at their house, so I'm sure they would love it. Grandpa here prefers fewer kids, a casino and a few cocktails. We did take our son on the old Big Red Boat (Atlantic) in about 1992 for our 10th anniversary, which was the only Disney cruising available back then. It was fun and not nearly as overwhelming as today's Disney ships. That being said, yes Emma, there are cruise ships/lines for everyone. Excellent and informative by the way. The chocolates are called Dove where I am, but I'm in the U.S., so no surprise! :) Like you, I've crunched the numbers many times and I just can't bring myself to spend the money for a Disney cruise. My go to cruise line is Royal Caribbean and I can get at least twice the value for my money with Royal, and the cruise line is a good match for me and my family. I have young adult children who have gone on Royal cruises with me at all ages and enjoyed the variety of activities and even the kids' clubs on those ships. I'm trying my first Celebrity cruise this coming March and think the "vibe" and level of activity sounds perfect for me. I anticipate I'll be taking advantage of the "Next Cruise" desk before we disembark!

We're going on our first cruise next year when the Wonder comes to Australia. It's nice to watch a video from a person who's not obsessed with Disney! Though we are doing it solely because it's a Disney cruise. Our kids are crazy for Disney, and TBH, we as adults are too. But at the same time I'm cringing over the cost for 4 night's (A$7200+), and what type of relaxing holiday I could have booked for that price, and that's without the whole tipping business...
As adults, we tend to book for holidays for ourselves more than we do for our kids. We have holidays away outside of school holidays to avoid being over run with everyone else's kids too🤣. The rest of the year is about them. I totally get the not enjoying being kicked in the back of the seat by some kid. We're lucky and have the 2nd dinner service so very grateful for that.
Loved reading your tips on your page - many will be very helpful I think. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Yes! Absolutely yes - worth the price. I’ve been on 7 Disney cruises. I have never had the experiences you had. We barely heard the kids at all. The kids were so happy to be on and in awe of everything going on. The difference between your cruise and mine is the length. Disney entertainment is above and beyond…Broadway quality. Get to see movies first run on ship (before theaters if the timing is right). Customer service is impeccable…just like I would expect if a Disneyland/DisneyWorld. Live the dining room experience. Never heard a child cry or whine in them. So much to keep them entertained. The food is incredible. Sorry you didn’t like it. But like you said, every cruise line isn’t for everyone. We don’t like some others too…more so because of the partying/drunks lol. Also love them because of no casinos. The newer ships have a casino (where you can smoke) in the middle or in the open and the smoke permeates throughout the ship 🤮.

    • @EmmaCruises
      @EmmaCruises  3 года назад +4

Hey Ginny, yep some ships do. On my next cruise the casino is about 8 machines in the corner of a bar at the top of the ship, so thatlll never bother me, mostly the big US lines they have the open casino (ahem, Norwegian) ha Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼

Wow! I didn't realize the other cruise lines allow smoking in the middle of their ships now. How awful! So you get to deal with the gambling, drinking and smoking -which that awful smell just gets in everything and you can Not get it out. So glad we are Disney cruisers too. We've tried most of the other lines, but they just Don't compare. I agree with you on the children thing too. We've taken our kids on several, but the last few were sans kids as they're grown now and we've never experienced "any kid noise" either. Most are too busy in the kids clubs or with the many other things for them to do to be a bother-including at dinner and we even had the early seating on the last cruise we took-no problems whatsoever. Just the same stellar service we've come to expect from DCL and Disney in general.

We cruised on the Fantasy in 2013 and 2015. Both were 7 day Caribbean cruises out of Port Canaveral Florida. We brought the kids but the Fantasy had plenty of adult only areas. The forward portion of the ship has a big area dedicated to adults with bars and lounges. The serenity area was very expansive and the service was fantastic. The food was delicious and the decor was not overwhelming Disney. We met plenty of people who cruised that ship without children. We paid maybe 15 percent more than a comparable Royal Caribeam cruise and 30 percent more than a comparable Carnival Cruise. The ship was new at the time and it was worth paying a bit extra for the great service and food. Today, a Disney Cruise can easily cost double to even quadruple the cost of other cruise lines. Their ships appear dated and other cruise.linea have steppwd up their game tremendously. Disney may be worth paying a bit extra for the experience but not what they are charging now. Emma's experience definitely was adversely affected by the crappy U.K. weather. We only cruise to the Caribbean. The sunny warm weather is a large part of the experience.
